#1 is my cell phone company..
#2 is my bank.
#3 WAS my cable company
#4 REPLACED #3
#6 is my credit card
#7 I go to on occasion. - blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Wal-mart customer service is bad? Really? That's about the only thing I approve of. They're not the brightest bunch, but you can use that to your advantage to return whatever the hell you want...Oh well...

Thank you for giving me a horrible first impression of yourself. BLOCKED! - goldfenix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Eyeam1337, above, is linking to his own, completely unrelated Digg post. Spam.
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10This should be a top 100 list. There are far too many companies with piss-poor customer service to list; a "bottom 10" leaves too many companies in the clear, so to speak.
I'd like to see the 400 nominations too. - jsowder18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5where's Miss Cleo on the list? cause that bitch told me i'd find happiness...

EDIT:I looked at some of your other comments escipally the one you made on the article about halo 3 beta and your obviously a 12-14 year old.
GTFO - MikeSobe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Who hasn't used the 'Wal-mart rental plan'?
- goldfenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6List:
Rank - Name - Percent rating the company "poor"
1. Spring 40%
2. Bank of America 30%
3. Comcast 30%
4. Time Warner Cable 29%
5. AT&T 26%
6. Citibank 24%
7. Wal-Mart 23%
8. Verizon 22%
9. Wells Fargo 21%
10. DirecTV 20%
fwiw, I am a bit surprised to see Verizon on there, as I hadn't heard of that many friends having trouble with them here in the Colorado/Boulder area. Perhaps they are just really terrible outside this area.
Edit: Here are the "Dishonorable" mentions:
11. Dell 19%
12. Circuit City 19%
13. Best Buy 14%
14. Home Depot 13%
15. Sears 12%
16. Macy's 10% - spacey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4so which of the top 10 do you work for?
- pinesol101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Where is AOL at on the list?
- Mast3rDigg3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3glad to see Dell made at least dishonorable mention
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Whenever I want to pick up a game from their locked cabinets, it never ceases to amaze me how you can walk up to a counter with 3 employees standing behind it, and not one of them will acknowledge your presence until they decide they're ready to, even if you stare 'em down.
- goldfenix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Actually, Best Buy is #13. It just didn't make the top 10.
- bloodmoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dell deserves to be higher up on this list. I used to be a loyal customer but I will never purchase anything from them again. I ordered a Toshiba. I called their customer service and got a person directly without going through any automated system and the person spoke English so well, I actually think it was an American.
- transpyre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Apparently the folks who ranked DirecTV poorly never had Dish Network.... I swear the Dish Network CSRs must have taken the gig as a temp job until they rebuilt their meth lab.
DirecTV customer service has always been great for me, however the quality of sub-contractors they send out is a total crapshoot. But the worse one I had, was the one who actually fixed the problem. Go figure. We'll see what happens when I upgrade to HD next month... - bondbhai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Digg me down! Oversight!

check out http://www.projecthoneypot.org/5days_tuesday.php - jellomizer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Heck I would add MSN I clicked on the Poll option and it told me I needed Internet Explorer. I though about going to into Parallels and load up IE just to complain but it is a lot of work for someone is tired and wants to go to bed.
- unusualbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the people i talked to were really trying to solve my problem... they were just idiots. how hard is it to understand that me and the 4 neighbors i asked have channels drop out commonly? They wanted to run a diagnostic on my digital cable box, i told them it happens on analog too and at my neighbors houses, they wanted to come test the box for the house... i finally decided that they were too stupid to comprehend that they might be broadcasting the problem.
- Mast3rDigg3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2who uses AOL?
- sharph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2just a quick verizon story.
where i work, at a small not-for-profit, we have verizon dsl. we also have an asterisk voip system in place. now, one day it rained and for some reason this made the ping time jump to about one second. so i'm on the phone with a verizon customer support rep, and when i told him we had a switch, he said that was the problem. he seemed pretty convinced that the switch was "sucking up the internet" and that if we had a hub, all our problems would be fixed. he also suggested that if we turn off some of the computers the internet could go much faster, because the switch wouldn't have to serve the internets to so many computers.
it was hard to get off the phone with him too. no real polite way to do it. - spacey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And lets not forget - Sprint and Comcast have partnered (http://www2.sprint.com/mr/news_dtl.do?id=8961) to provide even worse customer service.
- julian02392, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Surprised Microsoft isn't on the list, whenever I call it takes 35 minutes to be connected with a rep. and they don't speak English, IT SUCKS when you have to pronouce something 100 times for the rep to understand you
- BalooUrsidae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@PurplePig
Of course the airlines suck at customer service. But you got the wrong idea and thus the wrong set of links. Try spending your travel dollars where they go farther and get you more instead. Here's the links you should have posted for disgruntled airline customers:
http://www.amtrak.com/
http://www.viarail.ca/
http://www.americanorientexpress.com/ - BalooUrsidae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh, I use the self-checkout lanes at WalMart to avoid dealing with the incompetant employees. The problem is, so do the even more clueless mumu-wearing, 8-kid-dragging trailertrash that wouldn't know how to work a touchscreen even if it touched them someplace special.
That place really needs two different self checkout lines: "People who haven't ever bought a cola from a vending machine and have never seen a checker scan groceries before" and "People who don't live in a ***** cave" - tpaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I couldn't agree with you more, but remember nobody calls MS when windows crashes ... they call Dell/HP/Best Buy. Which is probably one of the reasons that Dell is #13. I think the only people who call MS are developers who have found an actual bug that can't be overcome. I've had to do this a few times and if you can prove that it's their bug then they will refund the charge ... of course they get their payment up front though ;-)
- 42kami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I ***** hate Sprint, and I was with them for over five years before I got fed up and switched. Cingular = poor reception. So I recently switched to Helio, which piggybacks on Sprint. Good service, without dealing with the ***** at Sprint.
- julian02392, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ME: JULIAN! J-U-L-I-A-N!
Microsoft: Justin?
ME: NO YOU F-U-C-K-I-N-G IDIOT!
Microsoft: Thank you for calling Microsoft, how can I help you? - boxmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You have telecom options if you switch to a cell phone, unless you live in an area with terrible coverage. That's what I did. BellSouth ripped me off and then proceded to lie to me repeatedly, so I don't have a land line anymore.
- admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You have fantastic conflict resolution skills.... *****.
- TheLoneWolf071, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4What?!? No Best Buy?!?
- BalooUrsidae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@silverchrysalis
Just go down to CitiHall. They'll take care of it. :o) - blangley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I would like to see the 'Customer' hall of shame. Being in customer service myself I will input the first 5...
- kevin1987, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've never had a problem with Citi : -S
- boxmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't do business with a single one of these companies. I *have* done business with most of them. I don't anymore because of their horrible customer service. If others would do the same, these companies would be forced to improve the customer experience.
- nazadus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Best Buy had the best warranty option I had for my sisters stereo. It was within the three year limit when hers broke, since her model was long gone -- they gave her next model which, IIRC, was much better.
On the other hand, I had a Sony Vaio which had battery issues (like, it wouldn't last longer than 5 minutes after the first month) and they said I had to send it back and it would take at least a couple weeks. I was sooo pissed. Looking back, I should have returned it and got a new one.
I had a friend who used to work there.. they do some pretty ***** stuff to their customers.. I avoid going there.
Only time I'm caught there is to spend my Best Buy bucks I get for xmas and birthday. - silverchrysalis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1aol definitely belongs on that list, along with their bedfellow, citibank. ever try to cancel an aol account that was on a citibank card?
- skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Has anyone here tried to cancel Gametap? It took me a month to get them to cancel it because they kept blaming their incompetence on "email problems" even though I was getting it canceled on the phone.
- anonymous666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are you Rex enough dude for tech support?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In my experience, Sprint has the most ***** up customer service out there, par none. Circuit City is the runner up (down?). AT&T takes the bronze.
Verizon has the best customer service of any company I know of. I never had any problems with Dell or Home Depot. - akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow I thought for sure my employer would be on the list, and I though we were bad. :D
Also I agree with the Bank of America Avoid dealing with them as much as possible (Save on hour on hold). - amekage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bad customer service sucks, no question, and even if a customer service rep is having a bad day, that doesn't excuse him/her being rude or unhelpful. That being said, I work in the customer service business as a supervisor, and while it seems like an easy job - after all, you're sitting in a climate-controlled office using a computer all day, not doing back-breaking labor - it can be challenging because a lot of customers seem to have this sense of entitlement. It's like they feel that because they're paying for the service, they have the right to scream, curse, use racial epithets, and threaten bodily harm against the representative.
I'm not excusing bad customer service. Companies should most definitely make every effort to train excellent customer service representatives who will resolve your issue efficiently, courteously, and correctly - but it wouldn't hurt for customers to show a level of basic human civility to the person answering the phone. If you have a serious problem, say so. Tell the representative that you're upset, there's no harm in that. But remember that you're speaking to another human being and that it's never appropriate to personally insult him/her or threaten them physically, no matter how angry you may be with the company's actions or policy.
Just my $0.02 as a former phone monkey. - BalooUrsidae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm surprised Microsoft and MSN didn't make the list for their openly hostile attitude towards the idea of using just one of their products instead of everything from every line...
- ren0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just so everyone knows. verizon != verizon wireless.
verizon is just the parent company. verizon wireless is it's own deal and completely separate from verizon communications.
get it straight people. - sotopheavy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16 telecoms
3 banks
and wal-mart
Not surprising. - ScienceDoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1JP Morgan Chase should be on the list.
- brufleth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Banks I can see switching.
Often you don't have a choice with telecom companies.
Comcast is my only option. They suck. Their contractors lie and do not fix things. Still, they're my only option. - wilson316, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey wait, were is Packard Bell?!
- tpaine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've always had really good luck with Dell. I hear horror stories but i can't help but think it might have more to do with the sheer volume of idiotic questions they probably have to put up with. I also wonder how much they get blamed for microsoft's crappy software ... and before someone says "that's their fault for using windows" lets remember that windows is what 95% of the market wants.
I am *not* surprised about comcast. I had the worst experience ever when i tried to move across town. They wouldn't let me keep my phone number (digital) for some super lame reason and when the guy came to set it up he didn't ring the doorbell because it was raining and instead called the _new_ number ... and didn't get an answer ... what a god damn moron. This snafu left me unable to work for 5 days and at $100/hour that really hurt. Then it took them 4 months to get around to canceling service at my old house despite me calling them every time I got a bill. Idiots!
Now they are harasing me for the old modem after i practically forced the installer to take it away. "Oh, you can just keep that one" ... "no thanks, what use would i have for an old comcast modem? just take it!" -
