only problem with what you said is that you don't take into account the educational side of all this. your magical number 18 could be lowered if we had a more open learning environment when it comes to sex and contraception and the like. it seems you assume that kids are too dumb to wear a condom until 18, where the possibility of sex with children is lower because obviously adults know so much better.
another big leap in making the age of consent lower is allowing a broader availability of the morning after pill. the zygote doesn't form for a good week or so after sex even if the girl is ovulating, so there's no harm stopping contraception right away before it even happens. never understood why the religious people don't like it...
making available these contraceptions would allow those under the age of 18 to enjoy sex at their leasure w/o the worry of having to raise a child. and ideally by that age we'll have instilled in them a good sence of responsibility and understanding about sex, STD's and birth. - kristov, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23An awesome message?

Starvation, rape by police (in order to "cure"), being beaten to death, buried alive -- and these punishments are actually written in as law. With punishments like these, would you "choose" to be gay if you lived in these countries? Of course not. Neither do these men and women. It sucks to think they are punished so severely for it.

I live in Hong Kong and it's not like 16yos are throwing themselves at me or vice versa ... the youngest I've hooked up with is 13 years my junior, a girl a few days past 18 ... even though the official age is 16, there are not many adults taking advantage of that, and I doubt they are in places like Korea or Japan either

Queensland is mostly rural and akin to the "south" of America -- ie, that kind of nationalist, non-progressive mindset, so for that to be the one state not to comply makes sense. Pauline Hanson, a "white Australia" advocator that almost made it into the house/parliment was from rural Queensland.
