http://citadino.blogsome.com/images/zipzaprap1.jpg - PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33Gnarls Barkley isn't rap. List is amusing otherwise.
- Hentez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32I call *****! Where is K-Fed?
- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -8/+37Sorry you were born in the 1990s and you haven't seen anything but the crap they call rap these days.
- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23What about my new favorite rapper/hip hop dancer - MC Rove!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17@walkingdogs
Didn't Wu-Tang get picked up by the Asians in the racial draft? - blablaman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Chamillionaire's first name is actually Hakeem.
I know most of you diggers don't care but here goes...
His rap name was originally chameleon because there was a rap war between the north side and south side of Houston. The north side usually wore blue while the south side wore red, and Hakeem along with some others such as Paul Wall and his brother started the Color Changing Click. It was originally to say that they were from the north side but were just out to make music and not be involved with any beef or violence. As the money came in his name changed to Chamillionaire and Paul Wall continued to produce complete garbage. - sKizZz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Didn't know if someone would care to read the bottom but, Del the Funkee Homosapien is not only a sweet name but an incredible rapper.
From the select passages I have read from this article, basically this guy takes the name and makes up a story while not taking the time to research any of their meanings. For instance: Del is brave because he has the word "*****" in his name, but he probably doesn't do too well in battles.
Good doing the research. The album that I listen to by Del, Deltron 3030 is incredibly innovative and is only one of two rap albums that I keep on my ipod.
I could also rant about things but I would try to do research first to not come off as an idiot. - awm4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Cunninlynguists & Shorty ***** in concert tonight
HaHa - barryiggins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14some of this is funny, but over all, I think they're kind of missing the point: a lot of the names are supposed to be humorous or absurd; for many, its kinda part of the aesthetic.
Not all rappers are trying to project a hyper-thug image; a lot these guys are hilarious, or just weird/crazy, or both.
now, digg my down like everyone else who has anything positive to say about hip hop - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Ason Unique, The Bebop Specialist, Big Baby Jesus, Dirt Dog, Dirt McGirt, Dirty ,The Father, Freeloading Rusty, Joe Bananas, Michael (Can't get off) Phipps, ODB, Ol' Dirt Schultz, Ol' Dirty Chinese Restaurant, Ol' Dirty Block (Gravel Pit Music Video), Osirus, Prince Delight, The Professor, Rain Man, etc...
Whatever you want to call him, you still have to agree that he was g-g-g godlike. - rEvolution3, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Chamillionaire's first name is Kamil. Cunninglynguists is obviously over someone's head.. damn I didn't know cee-lo was in Gnarls Barkley.. and don't phuck wit Del! He Funkee.
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13No offense, but how could you not know that was Cee-Lo?
- Llanowar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15ehmmm, how about 50 cent...
Come on. That must be on the list of stupid rapper names... - motang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I was actually surprised he made the list, I don't think his rap name is too bad.
- clokwise, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11My favorite rapper name: M C Escher !
- TroubleInMind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9What about Puff Daddy's kids: P Diddy Mini, P Poofy Bite Size, and Poppa Diddy Diddy Puff Fun Size?
- marvy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9How could he miss "Coolio"??? I always thought that was one of the lamest names ever, that sounded like a cereal.
- atticus8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+91) Three Times One Minus One
2) Sir Loin - walkingdogs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I will say one thing. this list has some very good artists and would actually be good for ignorant rap fans to check them out and hear that there is still great hip hop being made. The Lox, Del the Funkee Homosapien, Da Bush Babies, Swollen Members, Rhymefest, Cunninlynguists, Dreddy Kruger, Kidz in the Hall
- Cwo655321, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11i was also born in the 80's and i think tub3rcul0s1s is wrong about benjic being right
- pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I like Devin the Dude, to me he ranks pretty high in the list of who is there, I like him mostly because he has a lot of humor in his songs
- walkingdogs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Anyways its Big Baby Jesus or Dirt McGirt
- SaxxonPike, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I figured Eminem may show up on there. But let's give the man some credit, he can sell lots of albums on a name that was already familiar around the household before he started using it.
- tacom8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5unlike all the rock artists that "keep it real" ? face it hipster, the indie rock image you so desperately cling to is just as commercialized as the urban image was in the 90s... it would do you some good to list to some of those guys, it would really broaden your musical interests. But hey, it's just as easy to sit an make snide remarks rather then actually experience the world.
- cmiller1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5http://zipzap.ytmnd.com/
- Scatropolis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Why isn't Lil Bow Wow on that list?
- Koray, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6List is rather pretentious.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The Abstract ain't got no place on this list.
- XPrivateXRyanX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Where's 50 cent?
- actionscripted, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Arguably, "50 cent" is slang for $50,000. He just took the slang mainstream. (watch The Wash, you'll see what I'm talking about). And while we're at it, skeet-skeet-skeet is not just some silly onomatopoeia...
- knyphe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, I guess he really must have the internet goin nuts
- kahlessreborn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Just waiting for someone to rip off "PaRappa the Rapper"
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Another annoying website that makes you click through 5 pages. The duggmirror only caught the first page which is as follows:
25. Lil' Scrappy
24. 69 Boyz
23. Chamillionaire
22. Bubba Sparxxx
21. Birdman
If someone could post the full list I believe I speak for all of those on Digg, we would appreciate it. - thinkycap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3While most of this list IS funny, the author is wrong on a few things:
-Cunninlynguists = Cunning Linguists
Not so much that they speak different languages cunningly, but I think they want you to think "Cunning Lyricists" when you hear the name. Clever eh? You have to remember in order to have staying power in the music biz, your name has to be easily remembered. Personally, I dig it, it's original (shrugs).
-Noreaga
While I agree that this is a terrible rap name, I feel inclined to believe that he misspelled it on purpose. Also, the author forgot to mention that he's since changed his name to "N.O.R.E.", but don't ask me what that stands for.
Maybe somebody told Mr. Santiago (the rappers real name) that the real Noriega was bisexual. One would imagine the public knowing that wouldn't help a rapper's career. Not that he has much of one. Yet I digress...
-Eminem
This is a very good name for several reasons. 1)It's his initials, so he's one of the few rappers that has real meaning behind his stage name, which kinda takes away the cheesiness. 2)It's easily remembered, and instantly recognizable. Again, this is very good for marketing purposes. You can't deny the results here.
Can anyone think of another white rapper that has had the staying power of Em? Didn't think so.
-The LOX
That should actually be "The L.O.X.", with the L.O.X. meaning "Living Off eXperience". Also as noted above, they were formerly "The Warlox"
-Swollen Members
Aren't even rappers. Stupid name true, but what the hell are they doing on this list? For that matter, and this is the last time I will say this, LIMP BIZKIT wasn't a rap group either. Ask anybody who actually listens to hip-hop who Limp Bizkit is, and I guarantee they won't be able to tell you. There's a reason for that.
Co-sign the rest of the list.
Also, let me throw DMX in the mix. "Dark Man X", well aren't you cool... - canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4master p not listed? inaccurate
- Lomaximus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I didn't know if Del would make the list, goofy name but the guy can rap. Where's Keak Da Sneak? His name should have been on that list. Lil' Cease was also one of the dumbest names ever.
- transeunte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Boy, is that joke getting old.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5that list sucks. the names are suppose to be funny and clever. Cunninlynguists? those guys are amazing and if you listened to their music you know why they picked that name. The person who wrote this probably doesnt even listen to rap
- Dogtown7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Just so you know, 50 Cent named himself after a dead 80's Brooklyn criminal also named 50 cent. The real 50 cent snatched the chains off of Rakim, LL cool J, and any rapper he saw... and ultimately got bodied by the cops.
I've noticed a ground swell of public opinion lately against hip hop. Perhaps hip hop's 20 yr reign might be over? The more underground it gets, the better for the art form. Next, y'all need to mobilize against emo. - dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I thought some of those were pretty good.
Salt 5!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z0ToSOpWjPY - OneKingDown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+650 cent- Good name for a rapper bad name for a hooker.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10i love how everybody immediately says hip hop sucks without knowing anything about it at all
so...this is how it really is: rock sucks, country sucks, your lovely little emo bands suck, classical music sucks, techno sucks, any other kind of music sucks.
Yeah. It's true. Cause I think so. So it must be right.
arrogant pricks - EdLesMann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Sorry you were born in the 1990s and you haven't seen anything but the crap they call rap these days."
I think 2Pac was the last rap artist that I could stand listening to the whole album. There have been some really good singles/hits but I honestly can't name a good rap album since that era*.
*note that I don't count the 35 albums he "released" after his death. OK so 35 might be a slight exaggeration. It was more like 31. :-D - Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2or Ma$e (pronounced mace, not maze)
