- euphemizeme, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Top ten reasons why "Top ten..." lists will never end
1) People digg them
2) I banged your mom - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10When will these "Top ten..." lists end?
- whymanwhy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I hate the idea that you can teach good writing. My comp101 class taught me that you can teach a kid to write how the teacher wants but it is terribly difficult to teach some of the bimbos in my class how to lyrically tug on the heartstrings and stir up true emotional persuasion.
- beatbox32, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Your appeal to my emotions is not working...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Ah, but if a person can't get the gist of a sentence, they'll stop reading. Never frustrate your reader.
- tHePeOPle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Perhaps you should create a blog, that way I could read about how much you like turtles. Please include an RSS feed so that your turtle updates will be easily accessible.
- LordVance, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Furthermore:
3) People like that they can look over a small set of bullet points and pretend they read the ***** article.
4) I happened to bang codehkr's mother as well. - 5xSTUN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4FTA: "Psychological studies have shown that people are more likely to comply with a request if you simply give them a reason why… even if that reason makes no sense."

8) When your mom stops being such a slut - adameros, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The totally for go the hostage technique!

6) When you stop touching yourself, codehkr - flashback99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3one technique - be honest
- Moly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The one that's missing is "Don't detract from your point by writing like crap". Am I condoning style over substance? Nope. I am, however pointing out that if you write like crap you lose the respect of the target audience, which diminishes the effectiveness of what you are trying to say.
- michelewithonel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2writing is a skill that can definitely be improved through being taught methods and the like. just like music. obviously it comes more naturally to some people, but you can tell a taught musician from a natural one.
- jinxyandfred, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1I think that comment is pretty good writing and it is just what I needed to read to keep my spirits up on a project I am working on.
- longdongsilver7, on 10/10/2007, -6/+7I think they used all 10 of these when convincing us to go to war in Iraq!
- karnautrahl, on 11/09/2007, -0/+1Nice reminder. Decent writing can be taught as a skill. I've never believed the elitist position on this. There is something emotional that could make a difference on its own between a good and a great writer. Desire, absolute passion. Passion that powers determination and persistance.
That's it. Skill, passion and determination.
Why don't I mention "creativity"? Because I believe it to be a basic birthright of all, made accessible through the 3 attributes listed.
Just my own opinion. No, I'm not yet a good writer :-). - edithsan, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Great suggestion!
