- unicronband, on 10/18/2007, -2/+260The faxes are the worst. I get them at work all the time and always call the removal number immediately. The only company we've had a problem with was the "Who's Who Registry of Self-Important Douchebags". They didn't list a removal number so I called the phone number listed on the fax. I got some cocky ***** immediately trying to sell me their *****. I told him I wasn't buying anything and I wanted to be removed from their fax list. He absolutely refused to give me the number saying it was on the fax, nor would he let me speak to a manager, give me his name, the company name or anything relevant, all while trying to sell me *****. Fed up with him and convinced it was a scam, I hung up the phone, printed out a picture of goatse and spent the next 3 hours at work sending and resending the picture to their fax line until they unplugged it. They literally must have had over 50 pictures of goatse sent to their fax line before they turned it off. Safe to say, we never heard from them again.
- hansk, on 10/18/2007, -3/+142I think goatse delievers a louder message than 'please do not call us' does.
- NeMoD, on 10/18/2007, -3/+134This would be great if the person I was talking to actually understood English
- shadowsage, on 10/18/2007, -1/+98I used to work as a medical telemarketer ... wait, don't shoot me, I hated it. Anyway, we'd call doctors offices to try and schedule meetings about various drugs. There was a period where the company had us calling offices that were on our do not call list or offices that requested we only contact them by fax. Some of these offices had just requested to be put on the not call list just a few months before ... I think for awhile they told us not to call offices that were put on the list less that three months ago while everyone else was fair game. The company only did this for about a six month period, but ever since I've wondered how many other marketing companies call those who request to not be bothered..
Just a little look into the realm of telemarketing for those who've never been there. - krets, on 10/19/2007, -4/+100I like Seinfeld's response better.
- thcobbs, on 10/18/2007, -1/+86Some people... they are such big *****.
- effedup, on 10/21/2007, -0/+55Why sue people? Telemarketers are like prank calling in reverse. You dont have to call anyone, _they call you_. This opens up so much opportunity to mess with someone.

- MrSketch, on 10/17/2007, -0/+45But the real question is, does goatse have the same psychological effect in just black and white?

- clubby, on 10/17/2007, -0/+33I think he was betting that because they themselves are in violation of the very same act, they would not involve any authorities.
- unicronband, on 10/17/2007, -9/+40I appreciate your honesty, but I still dugg you down, not for being one of those ***** scumbags, but for taking pride in annoying the ***** out of people.
- grewell912, on 10/17/2007, -4/+35I was a telemarketer while in high school and I ***** hated every moment of it, that is until payday rolled around. I made insane cash, like made 30,000 a year during highschool..... it was crazy. I actually was top seller in my program (metlife auto and home insurance). I would sell around 40 insurance policies a day, which was pretty good. Flexible hours, extremely flexible. But it was like being a slave, you weren't allowed to say anything to your managers, and if you complained you would get fired. I only used a script for my first 2 weeks on the phones. after that it was everything goes.
At one point they told us to lie just to get some sales because we had a bad week. that was the worst thing ever.
***** HATED IT!! - tpodr, on 10/17/2007, -0/+28If available, hand the phone to a five year old girl. They love to talk on the phone. and talk. and talk. My bosses advice.
- Royalsarko, on 10/17/2007, -2/+29I just tell them to hold on for my girlfriend "who makes all the decisions in the household"...if they're still there after five minutes I tell 'em "hold on, she'll be right there...", and keep this up until they hang up, it wastes their time...if everyone did this it would end!
- sholt, on 10/17/2007, -0/+24usually, a fax modem's carrier handshake is enough to confirm that already.
- TheSabre, on 10/17/2007, -2/+24While I lol'd at your post and also dugg you up for your creativity, I must warn you to be careful. Unless you provided an opt-out method for your goatse, you can be fined under the Junk Fax Prevention Act of 2005, as well as possible sexual assault charges (as would be the case if you posted pictures of goatse on your office wall and someone was offended as they walked by).
I applaud you, but you should be a little more careful when undertaking your revenge. - halavais, on 10/17/2007, -3/+23Um, if you are cold-calling me, you have already played the "*****" card.
- subliminalurge, on 10/17/2007, -1/+21"as long as I treat potential customers with respect"
By simply dialing the phone, you've already disrespected the customer. - codehkr77, on 10/17/2007, -8/+28If site is down...
What to say when they call if you don't want junk calls
Every time you get a call you consider junk, just ask the questions in this script. If they answer no, you may be able to sue them. Be sure to put your phone number on the National Do-Not-Call registry by visiting http://donotcall.gov or by calling 1-888-382-1222.
``Are you calling to sell something?'' (or ``is this a telemarketing call?'')
``Could you tell me your full name please?'' $
``And a phone number, area code first?'' $
``What's the name of the organization you're calling for?'' $
``Does that organization keep a list of numbers it's been asked not to call?'' $
``I would like my number(s) put on that list. Can you take care of that now?'' $
``And does the company you work for also make telemarketing calls for any other organizations?'' (If they answer no, skip the next question.)
(If yes) ``Can you make sure your company won't call me for any other organization?'' $
You may need to ask to speak with a supervisor if they sound lost. When you're ready to let them off, you might close with ``Is it clear that I never want telemarketing calls from anyone?'' and just say goodbye. If you feel like making them pay, keep going:
``Will your company keep my number on its do-not-call list for at least ten years?'' $
``And does your company have a written policy that says that on paper?'' $
``Can you send me a copy of it?'' $
``What's your supervisor's first and last name?''
``What's your employer's business name, address and main telephone number?''
``Are you calling for a tax-exempt nonprofit organization?''
``Is this call based on a previously established business relationship?''
Before hanging up, check you have all their answers written down, then say goodbye. Add the date and time to your record. (Is it between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.? $) - hansk, on 10/17/2007, -7/+25telemarkers are one of the lowest forms of life. right there with meter maids, tow truck drivers and mimes.
- IHaveIssues, on 10/17/2007, -2/+19That's why everyone hates you.
- aussiekevin, on 10/17/2007, -2/+18Here's some fun I like to have. Keep telling them to 'hold please', but always come back after a minute or so, and answer a couple more questions. Seem very interested - tell them to hold for another 30 seconds again. Go through with a purchase, giving them the first 8 or so digits of a credit card number (completely made up), with some 30 second pauses thrown in for good measure. Then simply leave the phone off the hook, and listen to them beg for a while until they hang up.
- Bridea, on 10/16/2007, -0/+15You forgot the last part:
Disclaimer: nothing here should be taken as legal advice. If they answer no to any question ending in ``$'' you may be able to sue them for $500-$1500 under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. But if the answer to either of the last two questions is yes, then the Act doesn't consider the call to be a solicitation, so it's not covered by many of its regulations. Also excluded are calls to business numbers. For more details, see our pages on federal laws and on how to reduce telemarketing calls and junk mail. JUNKBUSTERS DECLARE makes it easy to tell companies not to pester you. - MassMopar, on 10/17/2007, -2/+17http://youtube.com/watch?v=un_PjRXV5l8
- Kitsune818, on 10/17/2007, -1/+14Depending on where they are calling from, you could get nailed with "sexual assault" or harassment, etc.
- LilSnackPackMan, on 10/17/2007, -1/+14Remember, SURVEY RESEARCH is not included in the Do Not Call Regulations because they are not selling anything. Just tell them you are not interested and to be placed on their Do Not Call List.
To many people get survey research mixed up with telemarketing. With most surveys people get paid to complete them or get paid to stay on the line to finish the survey. - abucada, on 10/17/2007, -1/+14Is someone actually going to waste the 10 minutes to read this script back? My number is on the do not call list and when I get a call from a number I don't recognize I DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE.
- revjustin2, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1310 points for good attitude.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 10/17/2007, -0/+13You report people for Rick Rolling? Damn, Lighten up. Tears dry.

- presidentjapan, on 10/17/2007, -2/+14This is the best thing I've found on Digg in the last few days.
- superzulu, on 10/17/2007, -0/+12Try putting some periods in that post buddy.
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -1/+13i just get filthy. if it's a girl, i ask her if she's wearing any panties. if it's a guy, ask if he'll get hard for me first. ***** it, they called me, open season.
- zeromancer, on 10/17/2007, -0/+12"That averages to 5 an hour or almost 1 every 10 minutes."
that's why i don't believe him. heh. - offspring06, on 10/17/2007, -0/+12I can't believe I got Rick Roll'd again.
- Lonewolfsanscub, on 10/17/2007, -1/+12All you have to do is hang up.
- czeman, on 10/21/2007, -5/+15I had some fun with a telemarketer once. My wife (girlfriend at the time) was sitting nearby when I answered the phone. Here's kind of how it went:
----------
Telemarketer: blah blah blah blah blah
Me (interrupting): (background)No, not now honey. (at telemarketer)I'm sorry about that. You were saying?
Telemarketer: blah blah blah blah blah
Me (interrupting again): (background)No, sweety. I'm on the phone. Pull my zipper back up. (at telemarketer)Sorry. When I'm on the phone, my wife likes to whip my dick out and start sucking it. As you were saying?
-----> My wife got a wierd look on her face at this point. lol She didn't know what I was doing.
Telemarketer: Oh. blah blah blah blah blah
Me (interrupting again): (background)No, sweety! I said not now! (at telemarketer)I'm sorry. What were you saying?
Telemarketer: Oh. blah blah blah blah blah
-----> I couldn't believe it! This was a determined telemarketer!!!
Me (interrupting again): I'm sorry. I'm am, like, really turned on right now. I gotta get this taken care of. Call back later.
Telemarketer: Ok, not a problem.
----------
I never heard back. hehehehehehehehe - inactive, on 10/16/2007, -0/+10I think he meant land mines.
- duster805, on 10/17/2007, -3/+13I run a call center and have a couple outbound opt-in campaigns (they REQUESTED the call) and am intimately familiar with the rules. If you don't want to be contacted, just have them add you to their DNC. Most the stuff in here is misguided and not legally binding. (a rep should only give you a operator number that the company can map back if needed - they don't need to give you their last name, the company doesn't need to mail you a written policy, etc.). And in general, good luck suing for an infraction. Even if you were on the national DNC and you didn't have an existing business relationship (i.e. signed up for something online with a privacy policy permitting them to call you or had purchased in the past 6 months) you still aren't entitled to collect anything if the company can demonstrate that they took reasonable efforts to not contact you and that it was a mistake (sorry to be the spoiler).
As a heads up, the National Do Not Call is set to expire this year and you will need to re-add your name if you don't want calls next year. - insanebrain, on 10/17/2007, -3/+13I only have 1 thing in my script : ***** OFF !!!! *click*
- cawpin, on 10/17/2007, -0/+10"Also not to forget that you will more than likely have to travel to the state where the telemarketer resides to actually sue them." Actually, if they're in another state I'll just file in federal court since they're committing a crime across state lines at that point.
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -2/+11And used car salesmen.
- crawf061, on 10/16/2007, -0/+9I was wondering why I would want to see a longer version of that clip
- dagnabbit, on 10/16/2007, -0/+7You mean land lines? I was thinking the same thing, btw.
- toonworld, on 10/17/2007, -2/+9oh I see what you did there ;)
- radiometric, on 10/17/2007, -1/+8Don't confuse tow truck drivers with the repo man. I happen to like tow truck drivers when I'm stuck on the roadside.
- futureb, on 10/17/2007, -0/+7all lawyers are as-holes until you need one, right?
- mrdoing, on 10/16/2007, -3/+9man that is so clever, defiantly going to try that to the next fax spam i get.
