- Decimit, on 10/12/2007, -8/+493Something tells me this is the first time anyone has ever made him actually man up to his responsibilities. Doesn't seem he likes it to much.
- sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -12/+448Much like everyone else in prison, they figure out after they're in there for an extended period of time that they don't like it.
Either they beg for leniency or find Jesus. Looks like fatty here is playing the "mommy" card and asking for help.
You kill a homeless guy, you deserve to sit in a jail cell for 23 hours out of the day for 20+ years. - coolian, on 10/12/2007, -13/+408"Teen says jail is "Too hard""
Deal with it, bitch. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+397"wants to become a motivational speaker"
...in a van, down by the river! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -28/+393(Insert sodomy joke here)
- TheBarge, on 10/12/2007, -11/+370"Messner's parents broke down at the denial. His mother said it's unfair, that her son fell in with a bad crowd and prison is killing him."
Prison is killing him? Maybe if he wasn't killing others and showing no remorse he wouldn't be there. Send him to federal-pound-you-in-the-ass-prison just for complaining about his current situation. - ChemEng, on 10/12/2007, -4/+330And in other news...
People who dont kill homeless guys in a forest dont go to jail for murder. - MattL920, on 10/12/2007, -4/+281A murderer complaining that prison is "killing him". Ah, the irony.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2228 monthes in a PMITA prison and he's sorted. That's how to get kids on the straight and narrow. The only problem is you've got 21 years left bitch, now pick up the soap.
- JewishPower, on 10/12/2007, -26/+215I think I speak for everyone when I say: HAHAHAHAHA!
Too bad, *****! - LaueOfficer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+174I hope that he gets internet sometimes, just so that he can read the comments on this Digg.
- cpmcd2000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+171What a sick bastard - at 300 lbs he jumped on a homeless dude's chest crushing his rib cage... killing the man.
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -7/+167@Shirokun
I think he deserves to spend those 22 years in jail. Not only that he killed someone that did nothing to him (just because he was bored), but he didn't even feel sorry for him.
I think he should spend all his life isolated from the society. - krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+157It doesn't help that his mom sounds like a big time enabler. It's not like he stole something or sold drugs--he violently killed a man.
Unlike mommy dearest, I'm not buying that "pity me" look he's got on his portly little face. I'm sure he's suffering, and I don't doubt that prison is really tough, but guess what? He violently killed a man. I'm repeating that because it's important for everyone to remember.
Jail time is supposed to be a deterrent. It will be more of a deterrent if Captain Husky stays in jail. His story will probably be more motivational that way. I hate to be so hard-nosed, but then again, I didn't violently kill a man. - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -9/+146"Warren Messner and three other teens pled guilty to killing the man because they were bored, but Messner said prison is too hard"
You killed someone because you were BORED??? And now you want out of prison because it's "hard"?? Sounds like someone still needs a dose of reality. A large, 9 inch dose directly injected where the sun doesn't shine. - bashnu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12822 years to come up with a new hobby.
- N00F, on 10/12/2007, -20/+135Awwww, look at the wittle pookums. How can you say no to such a sweet face? I think he learned his lesson. Lets let him out and buy him an ice-cream?
Poor little guy :-( - Silencer7, on 10/12/2007, -6/+113Red: Rehabilitated? Well, Now let me see. You know, I don't have any idea what that means.
1967 Parole Hearings Man: Well, it means that you're ready to rejoin society...
Red: I know what *you* think it means, sonny. To me it's just a made up word. A politician's word, so young fellas like yourself can wear a suit and a tie, and have a job. What do you really want to know? Am I sorry for what I did?
1967 Parole Hearings Man: Well, are you?
Red: There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. Not because I'm in here, or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then: a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I want to talk to him. I want to try and talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone and this old man is all that's left. I got to live with that. Rehabilitated? It's just a ***** word. So you go on and stamp your form, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don't give a *****. - karuberutsu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+99Teen says jail is "Too hard"
...
maybe he should have thought about the consequences before crushing some dude with his fatness. - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -13/+99You're right Shirokun. 22 years, what were they thinking? Keep him in there for the rest of his life. He took someone else's life, it's only fair.
Ruining his life? He had a life, chose to defy it and murder someone. That life should end there. I hear prison gets cold this time of year. Best he find a new friend, winter's starting in two weeks.
I'm a fairly liberal person, but I draw the line at murder, rape, child molestation/porn, and animal cruelty. Taking someone's life, innocence, or dignity is an unforgiveable offense. I know the state's obligated to care for them, but time can never erase doing that to someone else. Any death row execution, the family of the murdered is invited to watch the execution, how often do you see them forgiving the person about to be executed. It's pretty damn rare, even some 10-20 years after the murder. Probably moreso over time. Outside of the given case, think of how much a person murdered has missed in their lives. Don't get to see their kids grow up, grand kids, birthdays, etc.
A lot of liberals often want to sweep up death penalty and life sentence cases as potential rehabs, but not me. They deserve every miserable event that occurs to them for the rest of their lives. I don't care how much Jesus they find. - siszam, on 10/12/2007, -21/+106The point of prison should be both punishment and rehabilitation. You can't jail someone from the age of 15 to 37 without education and job training and expect him not to commit crimes when he gets out. Do we really want to create lifetime criminals because crime is the only option? I don't think so.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -11/+94@ Reizors
"this is why the elderly fear us"
Dude, the elderly fear 10 year old computers, green lights, the speed limit, phones with small buttons, and the deep end at the pool. Saying they "fear us" isn't saying much. - Reizors, on 10/12/2007, -5/+88Almost an adult myself, I find this little prick a disgrace to teenagers all around, this is why the elderly fear us, because of people like him, keep the bastard locked up, his act was beyond any reason for me to feel pity for his age.
- Decimit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+83"He's not getting the mental health, the schooling."
He wasn't using it before, what makes her think he will use it now? - freegrace, on 10/12/2007, -3/+81I think he would make a Great motivational speaker!
"Hey kids....Don't worry...if you kill someone, just say jail is too hard and you are really sorry! Then they will let you out to speak at stupid Scared Strait events!"
He would motivate even more crime by teaching people that as long as you are young and sorry, you will not be held accountable. - awm4, on 10/12/2007, -4/+80Apparently a diet was to hard too.
- noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+74there are training and educational services in prison, and people are allowed to read.
its not like this kid is in solitary.
"too hard" probably means "no xbox or tv" - armbar, on 10/12/2007, -8/+73Ok, this story is creepily similar to the Chris Farley motivational speaker/van down by the river skit.
300+ pound dude? Check.
Something/Someone crushed under weight? Check.
Motivational speaker? Check.
Mentally unstable? Check.
Hmm....are you sure this isn't one of those live SNL skits like the guy who went on American Idol? - siszam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63Normally I am against juveniles being treated as adults. Not this time. I can't bring myself to pity the brat.
- Van3ck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61He is just in Juvenile Detention at the moment... he thinks its too hard now? Just wait a few years when they transfer him out of "kiddyland" and he gets to experience what REAL prison is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+56What's the old saying? "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time."
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57My guess is he's got a new hobby already, and that's why he wants out
- fourzerofour, on 10/12/2007, -7/+56"You kill a homeless guy, you deserve to sit in a jail cell for 23 hours out of the day for 20+ years."
That's almost like playing WOW - ejstacey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49His MOM is saying that, of course she'll exaggerate it for his side. It sounds like they do have some sort of schooling/classes and hey... all that extra time he has he can study/educate himself.
- ConceptJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47I am, but I refrain from jumping on people's chests.
- benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42he killed a homeless guy because he was bored????? ***** this kid, hope he rots in jail for all 22 years, no time off for good behavior.
- mynameistim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40 what a ***** kid
- ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42"I'm sure you all think about this every time you infringe on copyright law."
Yeah, cause downloading a song is EXACTLY like violently murdering someone... - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43Prison is killing him, eh? Good.
- socalrob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43"His mother said it's unfair, that her son fell in with a bad crowd and prison is killing him."
Well who's fault is it that he fell in with a bad crowd? They are probably going to blame it on videogames. I can see it now ...
"He played Grand Theft Auto where the goal is to violently beat homeless people with baseball bats and other blunt instruments"
And then congress is going to get in, and more hearings on rated M games... It's all a bunch of *****. Where are the parents when these children are doing this crap? My mom knew what I was doing when I was young. When Mortal Kombat came out I was like 12 and had to have a long talk with her about how I knew it was fake and wasn't going to rip anyones heart out. And see I have never been in jail or in trouble with the law. These kids obviously don't have something going right at their homes. Something is missing.
These little ***** should have gotten life. I don't care that other countries don't put kids in jail or crap like that. If your 15 you should know that beating someone to death is a really bad idea. This poor guy was homeless, didn't do anything to them but they were bored??? What happened to skateboarding, playing baseball, riding a bike???
I'm gonna go with Bender on this from futurama "Have you ever just turned off the TV, sat down with your kids, and hit them?" - bashnu, on 10/12/2007, -18/+57"He's not getting the mental health, the schooling. He's not getting anything, anything but locked in a cell all day long," Mother Lori Messner said.
The judge and the state both argued that being deprived services and being locked away is precisely the point of prison." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39@vvvv:
"This kid made a mistake, realized what he did was wrong, and deserves another chance."
No he doesn't. He stopped deserving another chance during the following exchange:
"Did you feel bad when you are doing it?" Messner was asked during questioning. "Not really, no," he replied.
He killed someone in cold blood, with no remorse. He doesn't care that he killed someone. He just doesn't want to pay for his crime. It's not that he is sorry he did it. He is sorry he is being punished for it. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37Pff, what an *****. He killed a homeless guy? I have no sympathy for him.....22 years seems a little too short, if you ask me
- SteelChicken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37yeah shes a real winner of a Mom right there.
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -24/+59@Shirokun
Though I think he deserves the 22 years, I see your point. Eventually he'll be released as a 37 year old former inmate who has only known jail most of his life. I'd rather have the skills, mindset and ability to take care of himself and not be a burden on society anymore rather than become a repeat offender because that's all he knows. - armbar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41Yeah, he's getting "schooled" all right. His mom just doesn't want to admit it.
- sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -10/+44Yeah, except Chris Farleys character wouldn't jump on a homeless guys chest until he broke his rib cage. Farleys character was also funny, and somewhat harmless.
Theres a huge difference. How you could say that he reminds you of Matt Foley is beyond me. What's wrong with you? - shakin, on 10/12/2007, -9/+42The problem is that in 22 years he'll come out of prison completely uneducated and if he's reformed now, he will not be in another 21 years. He will come out with no other option than to lead a life of crime. I doubt he'll even be able to get a job at McDonald's. He'll have spent most of his life in jail and he'll be shaped as an adult by criminals.
It'd be better for everyone if he was never let out. - nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32From another article on the same crime ( http://www.wftv.com/news/7017356/detail.html )
Quote: In some cases, the kids realized their peril before their parents. After hearing her son talk to investigators about his role in the fatal beating, Darlene DeCarlo, Chris Scamahorn's mom says, "I don't want you hanging out with those kids anymore." - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33I heard he's a Sony and Zune fanboy as well. Give him another 5 years.
