Probably true. But sometimes you have to stand up to criminals. If you just let them take what they want, they'll keep doing it. Next time this guy thinks of carjacking, he'll think twice. - goeatsmsht, on 10/11/2007, -9/+396Way to go kid!!!
I bet he plays those violent video games............. - Liam76, on 10/11/2007, -51/+401and if the guy told the 17yr to stay in the car he should have.
and if the guy wanted to rape, kill and leave the body of the 17yr old on ths aide of the road he should have just gone along.
what would be a whole lot safer is if cops did their ***** job so people like this didn't get guns.
http://blog.nola.com/times-picayune/2007/06/arbys_carjacker_wanted_for_mur.html - littlebylittle, on 10/11/2007, -13/+327I'd wouldn't lose any sleep if ALL carjackers were blown away.
- 4degrees, on 10/11/2007, -9/+250knowing how this country works, the kid will end up in jail and being sued by the car-jacker. *sigh*
- dweeb79, on 10/11/2007, -21/+242“I'm not trying to sound like a p*ssy”
Your attitude mirrors most people’s feelings. The teen felt like he needed to do it, there are some people who cower in a corner and their other people who fight. The p*ussyfication of America is more evident now then years ago. Back in the day people would stand up and fight for what they believe in, now a day’s people feel they need to be passive and submissive to their attackers.
I’m not saying you’re a p*ssy either, but when the number of p*ssies out weigh the number of criminals only bad things can happen.
If a woman was being raped would most people help her, call 911, or just act like they heard nothing? I feel most people would fall into calling 911 and or acting like they heard nothing. I for one believe I would do everything in my power to kill him, but honestly in those type of situations the strong can turn into the weak and the weak can turn into the strong. Unless people are placed in an extreme situation then there is no telling how people will react. - secretwhistle, on 10/11/2007, -17/+232Good thing the carjacker survived. Otherwise the 17-year-old would probably be staring down the business end of a wrongful death suit. God bless our legal system.
- jwdarkstar, on 10/11/2007, -11/+181Kudos to the kid. Carjackers should all be shot.
- meatwadlurker, on 10/11/2007, -12/+177People should stand up to everybody. Police, Criminals, Teachers, Lawyers, Thieves...
Too bad standing up for yourself is the last thing you get to do. - Liam76, on 10/11/2007, -17/+169@ xrenjrvt
I am not saying I am rambo, and would have taken that guys gun away and blasted, him. In fact I probably would have given him the car. However doing that isn't the message cops should send. People who don't do that shouldn't have their actions questioned by the police. If we as a nation had a mentality to never fight back there would be a hell of a lot more murders rapes and car jackings.
That kid is a hero and that pig has no right to question or disparage his actions.
I rarely ever use pig to describe a cop, but in this case it is warranted. - ViRaZ, on 10/11/2007, -3/+149"...you don't bring a knife to a gun fight."
You steal the gun and shoot the motherf**ker. Hell, he could have taken the car and shot both of them for all we (and that cop) know or used them as hostages. Give that guy free Arby's for a month. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+151Proper "gun control" is hitting what you aim at........
- zyl0x, on 10/11/2007, -4/+121Good job son.
- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -2/+118My friend and I were carjacked, we were giving up the car. We got shot anyway, my friend is dead and the guy who did it is on death row now.
Don't assume it's all going to go your way just because you're willing to give your car up. - Caruthers, on 10/11/2007, -9/+112This article is awesome. That kid has huge ones and I commend him for his actions. What's ***** up is the comment from the Sheriff essentially saying that people shouldn't defend themselves and just let the insurance company take care of it. I don't know about everyone else but I say ***** that. If I was in a similar situation and the opportunity presented itself, I would have attempted the same actions as the kid in the article. It might have worked or it might not have but I refuse to stand idly by and become a victim. I'm sure the best will be yet to come with this story when the carjacker will sue the victims for assault with a deadly weapon or some similar *****.
- sjbdallas, on 10/11/2007, -1/+100I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
- Chompy, on 10/11/2007, -13/+108The only sad thing about this story is that the carjacker survived.
- mrgreenjeans, on 10/11/2007, -3/+95I'm sure he'll be sued anyway.
- SteelChicken, on 10/11/2007, -7/+75Hand over your ***** to a criminal, they might shoot you anyways, and often do. ***** that, im going down fighting.
The pussification continues at acceptable rates. - littlebylittle, on 10/11/2007, -8/+75How can you "trust" a carjacker not to kill you? It's a f-cken carjacker! You can't predict what they're going to do. The likelihood is that they'll kill you so you can't identify them. I personally would fight to the death, me or him. But that's just me.
I'd give him the car if he let us all out first, but if not, see above. - griz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+70"what would be a whole lot safer is if cops did their ***** job so people like this didn't get guns."
Don't you know, they are busy tazing bicycle riders on airport access roads. - jessdub99, on 10/11/2007, -4/+68Safer, and probably less paperwork.
- PleaseJustDie, on 10/11/2007, -3/+59@leachja
Why would the gun changing hands negate the need for self defense? By your logic the car-jacker shouldn't have needed to defend himself against an unarmed 17 year old. The 17 year old just proved, by taking him down and getting the gun, that having a weapon doesn't automatically mean you are safe. Until the other man no longer is fighting, whether by surrendering and assuming a submissive position (such as on knees with hands on his head) or by being wounded to the point of incapacitation then the 17 year old was still defending himself. - mikes1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+59"It would have been safer to hand over the keys and let the gunman drive off, Sheriff Harry Lee said Monday."
I suppose that's why crime continues to increase - the cops just want to do things "the safe way." - halik, on 10/11/2007, -10/+64Fighting for the gun is stupid IMO; you're taking a huge risk of getting shot. That kid is just lucky...
Better idea is to get CCW license and blow the ***** away with your own gun. - Sphonix, on 10/11/2007, -14/+68If EVERYONE had guns, criminals would think twice about doing this *****. Hey, you may be able to kill one person, but, if you do, YOU ARE DEAD. Someone else pulls their gun, and you are *****. Plus the person who you are shooting at least has a fighting chance against you. Guns are an equaliser, you don't need to be strong to use it, your grandmother can defend herself against a fit 20 year old thug if she has gun.
Either everyone has guns, or you stop all criminals from having them... which is not going to happen. But then, EVEN IF you restrict guns, people just use knives to attack. Unless you have an equal defence against the attacker, they will always have the upper hand. - HarryBauzonia, on 10/11/2007, -15/+65The sheriff's statement disgusts me.
The issue is much bigger than the monetary value of a car. That kid's (and his mom's) personal rights were being violated and his safety was being threatened. The kid acted responsibly and admirably by fighting for his rights.
The sheriff needs his ass kicked for implying that we should hand over responsibility for ourselves to government entities like the sheriffs department. That's socialist thinking. Cops always say ***** like that because they want to be the only people authorized to take action, and that would give them more power. - pwrage, on 10/11/2007, -13/+57The "kid" is definitely a hero, and the spokes-bureaucrat, Lee, interviewed is a pu$$y! Of course the cop wants people to just hand over their possessions to the criminals and not fight back. They don't want people to remember that they can stand up to bullies themselves. It helps to increase the legitimacy of the cops' existence even when they do not produce results. And as the cops are increasingly becoming the bullies themselves, they want to prevent the citizenry from seeing they can stand up to cops as well.
The unfortunate thing is that the perp survived. Now taxpayers are going to have to pay for his medical treatment and subsequent incarceration. - phantom_mullet, on 10/11/2007, -2/+46That kid's got some big kahunas, I'll tell you that...
- HarryBauzonia, on 10/11/2007, -6/+47...I just wanted to add.
The sheriff said:
"Give them the money and give them the keys. You make an insurance payment on your car, and nobody gets shot".
There are worse things than getting shot....or even dying. One of those things is living a life where you let criminals have their way with you (or your mom). - mowyouover, on 10/11/2007, -11/+50Yippie Kay Yeah Mutha *****!
- sharod, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32Anyone who says the kid was wrong for what he did should read this article. The carjacker is/was WANTED for MURDER!!!!

(originall posted by liam76) - jamesallen74, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31What!?! So it's okay if I go and carjack your mom? and shot her?
- MuadDave, on 10/11/2007, -1/+29The state could sue the carjacker for allowing a minor to possess a handgun. How's that for a sharp stick in the eye?
- grendelboogie, on 10/11/2007, -20/+47Or possibly he'll just shoot them first, then take the car.
- scoobycarolan, on 10/11/2007, -10/+37Just read what my hero Ted Nugent said in response to creating "Gun Free" zones on CNN. I think everyone should be armed.

"When a man points a gun in your face you have two options, die or kill the *****." - Wade Garrett to Dalton in Road House. Best quote of the entire movie, even better than, "Pain don't hurt." - Wormfather, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28At least in a wrongful death suit it's the criminal's family (who may in fact just be stupid) who gets the money+the criminal is dead.
A civil suit where the criminal is alive means that if he wins, you get to sell your car and give him the money...that thought alone should make you always aim for the head when defending your self. - evilesttoast, on 10/11/2007, -5/+31Yeah but if they aim a gun at me I should just sit there and wait?
- nodonoug, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26@hrhs
I'm sure someone would try to argue that once he took the gun away he was no longer in danger, and thus, no longer defending himself. Not that I agree with that, but I'm sure there'd be a lawyer willing to argue that. - mikesly, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24"When do you think you stopped being a boy and became a man"
-- "When I shot a carjacker in the face"
walks away slowly... - evilesttoast, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24How about a carjacker comes over and threatens your mom with a gun?
- jamesallen74, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28Yup, sad but true. I remember getting an email a few years ago about horrible lawsuits. Like the burglar who broke into a house, got stuck in the house for a week b/c the family left for vacation, and turned around and sued the family. He won. I hope it was an urban myth, but knowing the crackhead judges out there, it probably isn't.
- wushin, on 10/11/2007, -12/+34The Jews tried to just cooperate once.
- hbweb500, on 10/11/2007, -6/+26"If I was in a similar situation and the opportunity presented itself, I would have attempted the same actions as the kid in the article."
Have you ever been on TV, spoken in front of a crowd, or done anything else under high pressure? Ever freeze up? Don't say that you always keep your cool.
Youre driving down the road and stop at a light at one in the morning, a guy jumps out and has a gun, and you are saying that you would be completely coherent enough to stop wetting your pants and to get out of the car, go up the guy with the gun, take the gun away from him, and shoot him?
This isnt a TV show. If he shoots you, you are probably going to die. If you get out of the car and approach him, he is going to shoot you. Now, cops are supposed to say "Everyone attack armed carjackers"? Thats a slaughter! Out of 100 people who try this, how many are going to survive? - dougerdo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22It is called the castle law. Right to protect your *****.
- agentrice, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23"Give them the money and give them the keys. You make an insurance payment on your car, and nobody gets shot," he said.
I really hate this comment, because this is so untrue. thief's these days will steal your stuff and still kill u, so this kid did what needed to be done, we cant say he is wrong, plus if u let them take your stuff and claim it, that leaves a thief out on the streets still, this kid took one thief off the road!! he should get arbys for life for free!! - fyrewal, on 10/11/2007, -5/+24It's not right to carjack people either. Two wrongs make a right?
- dave11980, on 10/11/2007, -2/+21God made all men in his image, Samuel Colt made them equal.
- endustry, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22I'd shoot that guy just for having a rocker mullet, never mind for his being a carjacker.
