- skreeonk, on 11/13/2007, -5/+165Oh, wow, I know exactly where this Taco Bell is located. I should go make a stink. "I wanted my Border ***** Burrito made by Winnie! WHERE THE ***** IS WINNIE, YOU ***** BASTARDS?!"
- taxinfo07, on 11/14/2007, -6/+123Hmm, sounds like some age discrimination to me!
- spyd3rweb, on 11/13/2007, -23/+139Probably fired her for being white and english speaking.
- iching, on 11/13/2007, -16/+113Workman's comp, health insurance, employee loyalty?
Taco Bell is making a run for the border......disgusting just like their food. - inactive, on 11/13/2007, -7/+92"Not even a taco," says her husband, Doug. "They didn't give her a thing."- LMAO
- wishninja, on 11/13/2007, -11/+63And to think the best i can do for her is digg and then boycott "toxic hell" food for as long as I can. Done and done
- AmICoolNow, on 11/11/2007, -2/+39I don't think it's discrimination. I think the company sees her as an extra cost, because she's worked there longer, she can be replaced with a new worker for a lesser cost. To them she isn't a person, she's a number with a dollar sign next to it.
- reeder, on 11/11/2007, -9/+45But I thought corporations were supposed to be good?
- deviouskoopa, on 11/13/2007, -18/+50Heyyyy, I like Taco Bell... I'm not the only one am I? >_>
- lazyfisherman, on 11/11/2007, -5/+36Most corporations don't give a damn about employees, it's as simple as that. In some cases, they can't even if they (managers and administrators) want to because it hurts the bottom line. Profts > people, that's the American way!
- devinbunker, on 11/12/2007, -0/+30Am I the only one that was a little weirded out by the fact that she never took a sick day in over 30 years?
- iching, on 11/13/2007, -5/+31A RUN for the BORDER, Americans, is a term used by criminals and outlaws in the 1870s in the United States
- empraptor, on 11/12/2007, -2/+28It's not age discrimination. It's cost-cutting. If she was paid like an inexperienced worker, she wouldn't have been fired. But it's because of her veteran status that they thought it's more profitable to get rid of her. Well, if that's the way they do business they'll probably have crap customer satisfaction and lose money in the end. That's what I hope anyway.
- nizzy1115, on 11/11/2007, -3/+28moral of this story...don't work at taco bell.
- nakani, on 11/12/2007, -0/+23She probably got fired for getting too many peoples' order correct. Don't want to raise the bar too high, now!
- drmsucks, on 11/10/2007, -14/+36Junior, you are a smug *****.
- wramos, on 11/11/2007, -5/+27Yes give this woman back her job, and give her the resorces to make her successful. Fire her managers instead.
- Nerys, on 11/12/2007, -0/+21Cost Cutting high wage earners is the same thing as age discrimination HOW ELSE do you conventionally become a high wage earner in that kind of environment. WITH AGE. And sine they appeared to fabricate and manufacture reasons to fire here over more than 6 months it seems like they were afraid of something or they would have just outright fired her.
- nogami, on 11/11/2007, -1/+20Holy crap, you'd need to be a real moron to do something like this. The bad PR they're gonna get will be astounding. The next person on the chopping block will likely be the manager that made the decision...

- djbon2112, on 11/10/2007, -1/+14"This summer, company supervisors put her on notice, criticizing her performance. She says company cost-cutting and the loss of experienced staff left her without resources to fix the problems."
I suggest you read the WHOLE article next time. - agimat, on 11/10/2007, -0/+13Thats right, punish the janitor.
I'm sure Taco Bell would be all broken about it. - Aero347, on 11/11/2007, -3/+161-800-Taco-bell, let them know no more business will be given until they give Winnie a god damn pension.
- chillypacman, on 11/11/2007, -1/+13Right, because we all know the teens working at the local taco bell fired her, and this had nothing to do with the rules set down by upper management.
You can get all high and mighty, but you'll be talking to the wrong people if you go to a local Taco Bell and scream your heart out. - bsmeteronhigh, on 11/10/2007, -0/+12The Labor department recently reclassified fast food workers from service workers to manufacturing. Rest assured as our dollar tanks exports from Taco Bell to foreign countries will not appear. Whinny's job loss is merely the first of many many valuable "manufacturing " jobs being lost in our country! Are we doomed? Will Whinny find a job as a greeter at Wal Mart? And how do you export a 1/2 lb. bean and cheese burrito to China?
- Jonsey, on 11/11/2007, -1/+13*****. You'll forget this within a week.
- Nerys, on 11/11/2007, -2/+13Which is something we should not tolerate. They expect 100% loyalty and will FIRE you for lack of loyalty WHAT has this country come to where this is no longer a 2 way street and you even go so far as to JUSTIFY IT ????
- ArthurSucks, on 11/10/2007, -3/+14Wow, you sound like management material!
- schrutefan, on 11/11/2007, -5/+16The only taco worth getting shot for is a pink one. Maybe.
- Porch, on 11/10/2007, -6/+17I smell something rotten. I work in the biz, and have seen this before.
a) A good manager is about worth their weight in gold. This goes double for a high output store. The little savings not paying her retirement is lost big time when the store crashes for the next 6 months as the new managers figures out how to run it. It's not worth it.
b) You do anything that can make the customer sick, and your fired. I have seen managers of 10+ years get fired on the spot because they left a box of food out of the cooler for too long.
Who here wants to risk E.Coli so this lady can keep her job?
The article really only tells her side of the story. I bet their is another side, but the comp can't tell it or her lawyers will get involved for slander. - saifatlast, on 11/10/2007, -0/+10I've had the opposite experience at Taco Bell... they're always damn fast, polite, and accurate. Wendy's is by far the worst around here. I've waited in line at Wendy's while 4 workers sit around talking and having a good time. Including the manager.
- Nerys, on 11/10/2007, -1/+11BUT SHE MADE THEM 1.5 MILLION A YEAR !!!
- ShugNinx21, on 11/10/2007, -2/+12Have you even been to a Taco Bell? From my experiences, there is nobody lazy enough or stupid enough to not be able to work there. I mean, I've gotten bad service from all fast food places at times, but Taco Bell is by far the most frequent offender in terms of lazy, sloppy, and stupid employees.
That's not a knock on all Taco Bell workers as a whole, they just happen to have the largest ratio of good/idiot workers around. - inactive, on 11/10/2007, -0/+9People vote with their dollar. Companies exist to get those dollars. If you disagree with their business practices then don't give them your money. Clearly most people don't have a problem with it. American's value cheep products over quality of life. If it were otherwise then we wouldn't have taco bell, walmart, etc.
- dantrenner, on 11/13/2007, -2/+10Does anyone know where to write to Taco Bell to try to get her reinstated. We don't HAVE to eat at any Taco Bells if they're going to treat people like this, do we?
- rnwen2750, on 11/10/2007, -4/+12And your plan was?
- Aero347, on 11/10/2007, -2/+10The problem is she knows her job well enough to do it right for 30+ years and earn 45K+ salary, gave her life to making your damn taco perfect and was cut so some district manager could put a new coach collar on his dog.
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -2/+9you never get the correct resources to do anything right.
all you get in a corporation is ***** pilled on ***** with a ***** raise and ***** bosses.
then get yelled at to raise sales and cut labor costs at the same time.
big buisness is bull crap. - Aard88, on 11/10/2007, -1/+8She didn't need more training. Corporate just wanted to fire someone making 45k and replace her with a noob willing to take whatever they offer. The review stuff was just ***** to cover their asses.
- Nerys, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7There are managers above store managers. Regional Managers General Managers etc..
- pg8290, on 11/11/2007, -1/+8Its obvious she was fired because the company was trying to cut costs, and decrease any perceived financial liability from having such a long time employee. I would love to know who her superiors were and how to contact them as I would love to make their ears ring :)
In addition, if any of you have friends or acquaintances that work at Taco Bell, pass the story on to them, so those looking for an out, can make a statement that will sound good for corporate and their resume.
After all it will be much easier for the to say, I left after seeing that they fired a 30 year dedicated manager who ran one of the highest volume Taco Bells in her area, so they can replace her with someone whom they have not made so many commitments to.
If no one finds the contact info for her managers in the next several posts, please post it under here, as I'm sure there are a number of those like me out there, who would love to give her managers a piece of our minds :) - ikrit2006, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7I was wondering how they were going to afford all those free tacos from the World Series "steal a base" thing.
- GUTTS, on 11/10/2007, -1/+8I'ts not that they wouldn't let her work for them until kingdom come. It's the fact that she's a year away from retiring(even tho she wanted to work there until she was 70). And they go and fire her. For 30yrs of contribution? I mean *****, from what the article states. She had multiple recomendations and awards. How do you do that to someone? Money really is the root of all evil.
- techmaster, on 11/11/2007, -3/+10I guess when travelling through Minnesota, I'll be sure to avoid any Taco Bells in the area...
...of course I wouldn't be caught dead in Minnesota in the first place. - lemur, on 11/10/2007, -6/+13Del Taco ftw
- meed, on 11/10/2007, -0/+6Not boycotting a company just because they employee people that might loose their jobs? That is the stupidist reason. That is like saying that americans shouldn't demand their troops to be removed from iraq, because some soldiers want to earn the combat pay.
Honestly I haven't eatten at a taco bell in a very long time, and I hope to keep it that way. Because there is a 50% chance I will get the hersey squirts, it tastes like ass, and half the time the pimply face teenager forgets to give me any hotsauce then slams the wind shut before I say "could I have some fire sauce please". I'd rather drive a few extra miles and hit up the taco stand where you have to order in spanish and get a real tacos. - GUTTS, on 11/10/2007, -0/+6So if theres no victim. How is it that this could be a bummer for the lady? You're ***** idiot....
- theblt, on 11/10/2007, -1/+7Yeah! Call 'em up and send them a strong worded voice mail! Yea...
