- Barbarino, on 10/10/2007, -5/+45Does Ron Paul have a plan to combat these killer ducks?
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+32You can never have enough duck articles. Ducks are awesome.
- jserio, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22$10 for the first person who can find a Google Maps/Earth image of these!
- UltraMegaFilms, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24If they were made in China, wouldn't that make them Peking duck?
- jerryparid, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21 "They are out of side of American jurisdiction; I am not sure if anything could be done"
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Step 1: Disband Fed.
Step 2: Switch to Chinese duck-based currency.
Step 3: Profit! - theblindman2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Actually, that's in pounds so it's more like $1950 - $2100
- ikrit2006, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Google Maps doesn't have high resolution images of the ocean surface.
- californiakevo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9who are you talking to? or do you just have tourette's?
- Silverbird, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9It seems these toys would have dispersed at some point. Do they truly stay in one concentrated group?
- brad3378, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8what a bunch of Quacks
- ultralights, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13$1000 each you say?
where my canoe! - Tenlow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I think you underestimate the awesomeness of ducks.
- aywwts4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6You nest through the center of the earth, and end up in digg.cn
- DarkPrince11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Grandpa?
- Niten, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Why would you want to be out there in a large fishing net? You're doing it wrong.
- Mononuclear, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6If they are worth £1,000 each then I doubt you can find any of them in any large quantity.. If they were all together I would be the first person out there in a boat and a large fishing net...
- atbnet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No, that picture is of a Great American Duck Race. They have events for various groups to fund raise. The Boys and Girls club in town does one each summer around the Fourth of July. I knew those ducks looked familiar.

- Wacer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I guarantee you that that the ocean has got more lead in it due to fish line sinkers than from these ducks.
- MasterChi, on 10/10/2007, -13/+16Rubber Ducky, you're the one,
You make bathtime lots of fun,
Rubber Ducky, I'm awfully fond of you;
Woo woo be doo
Rubber Ducky, joy of joys,
When I squeeze you, you make noise!
Rubber Ducky, you're my very best friend, it's true!
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo
Every day when I
Make my way to the tubby
I find a little fella who's
Cute and yellow and chubby
Rub-a-dub-a-dubby!
Rubber Ducky, you're so fine
And I'm lucky that you're mine
Rubber ducky, I'm awfully fond of you. - theholyraptor, on 04/07/2008, -1/+4quick someone find a yellow pixel in the water and claim it's a duck.
- Technopope, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4This has been on Digg many times, and each time there is a photo of a flotilla of yellow ducks which have entirely NOTHING to do with the bath toys in the story.
In reality, these world traveling toys are few in number, which is why they are selling for so much in the collector's market. - Technopope, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3As I stated, it is the "flotilla of yellow ducks" in the first picture. Similar pictures are shown in almost every article about this story. Yes, the second picture is of the same type of toys that were lost at sea, but after all these years you would be lucky to see two of them in the same field of view. In fact, you would be lucky to EVER see just one, hence the reward from the maker and the high collectable value.
This, and other articles, make it seem like there are CARPETS of these toys polluting the oceans. That couldn't be further from the truth. - Wacer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+230,000 is a lot of ducks but then again, the oceans are gigantic and would amount to very few ducks being found.
- TargetDog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2A formerly popular non-blinking internet star approves.
- JLove805, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4I'm actually more concerned that someone has enough time on their hands to spend 15 years tracking plastic ducks!
- crashflow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yes, but they do have some of the bays and beachs. All I'm saying is might get lucky.
- jserio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Any Titleist golf balls floating around the Atlantic?
- bennyfreshness, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1what happens if we keep nesting comments to this comment structure?
- Burento, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2So.. you don't think the guy with a picture of the exact toys on his arm is unrelated or are you only pissed about the first pic? Additionally i am not sure almost 30,000 is few in number... :)
- karmak1ng, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Rue Paul?
- subcomandante, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thanks, Debby Downer.
- ayeroxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Anybody want a peanut?
- hiPpymIck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1from a jun 07 Times article comments
"I wrote a lengthy cover story about the journey of the toys for the January 2007 issue of Harper's Magazine ("Moby-Duck, or, The Synthetic Wilderness of Childhood," www.harpers.org/archive/2007/01/0081345). The journey makes for a good story, but as the ducks have circulated through the media for the last fifteen years, they've turned into chimeras, part fiction, part fact.
The coast of New England was similarly forewarned of a duckie invasion in 2003, but the only somewhat credible sighting--the one in Maine--is doubtful at best.
If you do go duckie hunting, look for the following identifying characteristics: The toys are made from rigid not pliable plastic. Bleached by the sun, the ducks will be white or off-white, and the beavers will be off-white or beige. The turtles will still be blue, however, and the frogs still green. Only the ducks bear the First Years logo, which appears on its right flank, where the wing would be if it had one. Good luck.
