- tony23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+52A second study found that 75% of the users of mobile gadgets don't know what "women" are.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29The other 25% is every girl under 21.
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -11/+31They don't know how to use mobile gadgets because they don't need to be mobile. They only need to be in one place. The Kitchen
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9How can we forget the bash.org wisdom?
67% of girls are stupid
i belong with the other 13% - dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"Men are more likely to spend hours reading the instruction manuals" Men... reading instructions?! Dear lord.
- madgamer01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8All obvious sexist, yet most likely hilarious, jokes aside, no one is surprised by this study. The only mobile gadget most women will use is a cell phone, and those are so common nowadays that they are rarely considered gadgets, and are often used for little more than phone calls (their main purpose, which seems to have become less important to the manufacturers), text messaging (the new teenage rage), and the occasional MP3 player (that's the other 1% of the market Apple has yet to brainwash).
Not to mention:
1. Boys are generally geekier than girls, therefore are more likely to be gadget-lovers.
2. The majority of business executives are men, who will use tools like Blackberries and PDA's.
3. And many, many more reasons why women shy away from tech more complicated than kitchen appliances. - SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16Amen...That 75% needs to stop trying to figuring out an iPod and do my damn laundry!
- SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Women multitask much better than men so don't need a gadget to do it for them. Most women I know don't really give a rats about having the latest mobile as long as it does SMS and voice. Also the majority of mobile gadget interfaces are designed by men, and ones that don't get out much at that, so they suck, and where as blokes put up with it just to have the latest gadget (the wrong attitude) women reject them becuase they are hard to use (IMHO the right attitude). I wish more people could be capable of being this critical about modern technology. That said, we wouldn't have advanced technology unless we'd unless we'd percevered with a few whorey interfaces :)
- psylion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When I read many of your comments I begin to understand why geeks have the reputation of being sad gits who spend their Saturday nights alone with their internet porn. Don't hate women just because they won't sleep with you.
- jonnydingo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What an amazing fact ! I expected it to be the same as men, 100%. NOBODY repeat nobody uses all the features of their mobile phone, or their cam corders or even their microwave. They use what they need, what they find useful or what they find easy to understand. The rest is just blah blah blah. Manufacturers are now wise to this and pack in as many features as they can in order to appeal to as many people as possible. And if people don't use them, hey so what, they paid for them. Is it worth getting upset about - I don't think so.
- hypodermia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3this is completely true. i own all the mentioned mobile objects, and in fact, my (female) housemate is even better with them than i am. but we both still have to help our moms use them.
- tecmec, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think the stat would be almost the same for men (and all electronic devices). The general public just doesn't seem to understand anything electronic. Something that the digg community finds hard to comprehend, I'm sure. ...I know I don't understand how some people can be so ignorant.
- NomenNescio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh. I don't even know how to use mobile phones, never got used to them.
- 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well I dunno how to use my phone that well but I could probably work it out if I tried. It does not say in the article if they don't have a clue at all or they just havn't bothered to look. Tho I think it would be the former.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I know what gadget they know how to use ^_^
- GORby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, you may have to explain something to her: the difference between a mobile phone and a hammer :-)
- hanginginthere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it depends on the age. I'm thirteen and I know every nook and cranny of my gadgets, but my aunt has no idea how to use her cell phone.
- jesterace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't forget, they'll almost always go for fashion over functionality.
- aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Study: 100% of me doesn't care either way.
- NinjAlt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uh oh, someone cut off the topic. They forgot "Or drive"
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think its in the genetic makeup.
When I bought my new cell phone, my 9 year old niece just played with taking pictures after my 6 year old nephew showed her how to.
Then I saw him looking at the manual and trying to figure out the other functions while the 9 year old girl was busy taking pictures of herself and admiring them.
Its all in the DNA. Girls will be girly and boys will be geeky. - psylion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm 32 and I had to show my husband how to use most of the gadgets he uses. He is good at servers and I am good at gadgets.
- thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Give me a break, the researchers are asking about the wrong mobile gadgets! 100% of women know how to operate a pocket rocket!
- minc3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most girls I know are pretty good with tech.... so this must be localized.
- med70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For all the guys that think it is funny to make cheap jokes at women who supposedly can't operate mobile gadgets. Let me guess, you are single and possibly still living with your mothers and who can't think further than to turn it into a mud slinging contest. The article was a bit biased focusing on all the functions on a mobile phone. When are we going to stop acting like Beavis and Butt and actually move on from the men vs women debate, ah man I can't believe I'm wasting time on this...Come on I though DIGGsters were bigger than that!
- imaginateca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hey, gadgets makers, listen: you are not designing your products to be easy for 37.5% of population. And I think that it is really stupid of you, because women like more to buy things than men.
You thought we, the men, are smart? Well, we are not really.
Think about that. - Taps2u, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Its true.
You should see how many mobiles my mom broke. - JoeyDeacon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0They certainly don't struggle to find the vibrate function on their phones and other bedroom gadgetry as mention by Scott Taylor above.
- susievee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Oi woh seyez wee donte noe how tooo yuse gagits is this e gedgit
- Taps2u, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Thats right talk for yourself
- ScottJG, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Wow, the number is that low? I expected 99%. The other 1% are, of course, lesbians.
- Irimi, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3haha
