- QGYH2, on 03/16/2008, -18/+838No good deed goes unpunished..
- EyeSurgery, on 03/16/2008, -12/+406Nice, the kid doesn't even have the opportunity to get home to call in sick and gets slapped with a punishment. Way to teach kids right from wrong.
- MattJF317, on 03/16/2008, -2/+370"...when the driver fell out of her seat after a turn and hit her head." Holy *****, how bad of a driver is that?
- Adamande, on 03/16/2008, -87/+308Considering her mom actually believes some "god" put her daughter on that bus, I guess some god also slapped her with detention, and everyone should just move on since everything is completely deterministic anyway and you have neither freedom of choice nor burden of responsibility for anything you do.
- trogdor282, on 03/16/2008, -0/+162It's been a while since high school, but I'm gonna say "average"
- smacksaw, on 03/16/2008, -5/+138And that's what is wrong with America today...fill in the blank here.
I'll never understand my country's obsession with punishment and punishing everything. It makes a fearless society when everyone is overpunished, especially when they don't deserve it. I would say that for most people her age, for every time she gets praised or rewarded, she is punished or threatened 100 times. - sdigroup, on 03/16/2008, -22/+118CONTACT INFORMATION
http://www.mpusd.k12.ca.us/contact.html - theaceoffire, on 03/16/2008, -3/+93They should have said "Don't skip class", then let her off.
The punishment should fit the violation, and saving lives should be rewarded (Even if they ARE skipping school). - PiGuy, on 03/16/2008, -47/+129I don't see the issue here.
She should be commended for stopping the bus, but if she was supposed to be in class and detention is the punishment for skipping it, then so be it. The two events are not not related. - Zarokima, on 03/16/2008, -18/+100If it's against the rules it's wrong. Rules are in place so that society can maintain order and keep us from becoming animals. Rules (and God, of course) are the only indication we have of what is morally right and wrong. So regardless of circumstances or absurdity or anything else, always follow the rules.
/sarcasm, because someone is actually going to take this seriously. - Vapor17, on 03/16/2008, -5/+76your comment fails on so many levels
- PopcornDave, on 03/16/2008, -2/+71And everybody wonders why nobody wants to get involved in an emergency. Way to go school, that's a valuable lesson you just taught this girl.
- creationism, on 03/16/2008, -8/+73Or maybe god punished her because she spoiled his fun with the bus.
- Turambar, on 03/16/2008, -2/+65she thought it would be cool to ghostride her bus
- inactive, on 03/16/2008, -3/+61I knew I saw there logo somewhere else before.

Detention for the school? - doshindude, on 03/16/2008, -1/+56schoolbuses don't have seatbelts...they have a metal bar at tooth level.
- Zeeeeeeeeeee, on 03/16/2008, -14/+68I agree.
If you litter, then help an old lady across the street, it doesn't excuse your littering.
Like you say, the two events are unrelated. - amnesiac096, on 03/16/2008, -1/+55she wasn't skipping, she just wasn't given the opportunity to call in sick since it had just happened.
- smacksaw, on 03/16/2008, -4/+56I'd rather have detention than eternal damnation. It could have been worse. God can get pretty angry sometimes.
- bigbadgoat, on 03/16/2008, -1/+53Not since the New Testament. Dude loves everyone now. lol.
- jdmcadam, on 03/16/2008, -4/+56I almost did. I wouldn't put it past some diggers to actually post something like that in seriousness.
- haterofps3, on 03/16/2008, -21/+72If she is brave enough to take responsibility for saving lives then she can be brave and take responsibility for skipping school.
- oyouno, on 03/16/2008, -5/+53I wonder why the 40 elementary school students that were on the bus didnt get detention for being late to class.
Did the bus driver get fined for not wearing his/her seatbelt?
Why didnt the 15year old girl get hit up with driving without a license and crashing into cars???????
Doesnt seem fair to me.. I mean if your going to punish this girl.. why stop their?? punish everyone involved.
America is so ***** up. - radink360, on 03/16/2008, -7/+49I hate ***** that work at schools. I have to deal with them since my kids are school age. They are all arrogant ***** that think they know more about your kids than the parents. I hate them all. This girls saved alot of live possibly, and the ***** at the school are nothing but a bunch of elitist pricks. Die.
- Rodalli, on 03/16/2008, -15/+55"She is in trouble with school because she made the wrong decision," said Rouse's grandmother, Sally Correll. "But I can't help but believe that she was where God wanted her to be."

- kurtwinter, on 03/16/2008, -1/+38Zero tolerance strikes again. Someone please explain to me, other than conditioning youth for a repressive America devoid of justice, what does zero tolerance show? That incompetent administrators have no ability to judge each situation on its merits, but rather surrender to some all-mighty policy that binds their hands from being human beings. A curse on all your houses!
- grahamj1978, on 03/16/2008, -3/+39Fine, go ahead and punish her for making a bad choice. However, I think she also deserves some reward for her heroism.
- OrangeTide, on 03/16/2008, -1/+37Yea when I was in school they would always pull this *****. Punishing good kids just because they think it teaches them some lesson, or because that's how the administrators get their rocks off. Public schools are generally ran by power tripping maniacs. Who like to lord their position over little kids.
- SlvrEagle23, on 03/16/2008, -12/+47Furthermore, no good deed goes correctly attributed:
"But I can't help but believe that she was where God wanted her to be."
The kid acted quickly and stopped a runaway bus full of kids. Give the damn kid credit. It doesn't matter whether the kid was sent there by God or not, it sounds like the grandmother forgot to give her credit for doing such a badass thing. - xlneoMAXlx, on 03/16/2008, -1/+35I agree with you there, but think about this: _____ __ __ _____ ___ __ _ _ ______________ ___ _____ __ ___. Right?
- Beanstudd2, on 03/16/2008, -1/+35But in another sense, that didn't happen. and if we wanted to find out what event led the driver to hitting their head, by your sense there should be infinite.
If aliens came and abducted the driver she may have not hit her head. or maybe if the bus just had a flat tire, she wouldn't have hit her head. I'm just saying - rasbill, on 03/16/2008, -4/+37ive actually had a similar experience with a barrel fire when i was school, if i could have done it again i would have let it burn the school down.
- CorwinShiu, on 03/16/2008, -1/+34No seatbelts on school buses.
- mindspaceindia, on 03/16/2008, -11/+43From Macbeth
LADY MACDUFF: But I remember now
I am in this earthly world; where to do harm
Is often laudable, to do good, sometime
Accounted dangerous folly. - walkea1, on 03/16/2008, -18/+48I like to how you took a story about a kid stopping a runaway school bus and used it to evangelize atheism. Honestly, these days some atheists are no better than the the worst kinds of Christian Evangelists.
- Arcesius, on 03/16/2008, -0/+30You've got brains there, my friend.
- greevar, on 03/16/2008, -0/+29She never got to go home and call in sick apparently. She would have to get help and the talk to the police afterward. Couldn't anyone vouch for her?
- john2kx, on 03/16/2008, -4/+32The school could have waived the detention, and maybe even said "Thanks" for um, I don't know, potentially SAVING THE LIVES OF A BUSLOAD OF CHILDREN, FFS.
- meridian300, on 03/16/2008, -0/+26You forgot to add sheer plastic covering those bars with the most obscene language, sprinkled with drawings of penises.
- barc0001, on 03/16/2008, -4/+30Why don't you try reading the article? She was sick, and going home on the bus, but forgot to notify the office first. I guess she was going to get home and have her mom call in or something. It's not an unreasonable course of action., and not like she set out to ditch school for the sake of ditching school.
- has2k1, on 03/16/2008, -7/+32Karma is a bitch.
- GordonV, on 03/16/2008, -1/+25I think it's cool that the mother of the girl is on her side. Students are given detention every day, but having your parent's trust is priceless.
- MasterThief117, on 03/16/2008, -0/+23Serves her right for saving a bus load of kids. I mean seriously, who does she think she is?
- theOster, on 03/16/2008, -0/+21i think you meant "_____ __ __ _____ ___ _ __ _ ______________ ___ _____ __ ___ " (you had your 6th and 7th dashes reversed - it's ok, it happens)
- geneticlemon, on 03/16/2008, -0/+19Detention for their servers ...
- Sbebo, on 03/16/2008, -3/+21Wear your seatbelts kids.
- Rapter09, on 03/16/2008, -3/+21Yeah, my kid wouldn't be going to school on a Saturday for saving a bus full of people. No way in hell. I'd have words with their principal, that's all I can really say. I'd be saddened if their parents allowed this.
- OrangeTide, on 03/16/2008, -0/+17it's not even uniquely american. not only is this stupid, it's nothing special either!
