- capiCrimm, on 12/15/2007, -5/+30yes, but imagine how easy it will be to take away guns when our children are this afraid of people with knives.
- Jawsh91, on 12/16/2007, -9/+25The main use of knife: cutting food.
The only use of a gun: killing things.- jmpeagle, on 12/16/2007, -4/+47a gun is a tool. You can use it to get basketballs down from roofs, change the TV station, or even open a can of beer.
- lostmyleggins, on 12/16/2007, -9/+17you mean you can't shoot at paper targets with a gun?

- spudnic, on 12/16/2007, -6/+18I'd be willing to bet far, far more guns are fired in anger than in self defence.
- EntangledPhysx, on 12/16/2007, -5/+6@spudnic: thats because guns are illegal to carry without a special permit, where criminals don't care, and shoot those who dont have a gun for self defense. You fail.
- kurtergad87, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2@Combatchuck: You can't use a gun for self-defense, and it is often the opposite of a deterrent. The same applies to swords; you either harm the other person (attacking him/her) or fail to do so. A true weapon of self-defense would leave the other mostly unharmed or require that you weren't the first to act.

"According to authorities, school employees spotted the girl cutting her food while she was eating lunch and took the _steak_knife_ from her. The girl told sheriff's deputies that she had brought the knife to school on more than one occasion in the past."
cafeterias don't give out steak knives. if she was cutting food with the plastic knife they gave her there would be no story. bringing a steak knife to school is a little different. at least when i went to school, they didn't serve steak.- ratpH1nk, on 12/15/2007, -1/+57Is that supposed to make me feel better or worse? gldfshnpcklejar's comment still hold up, why was there police involved? Whatever happened to take the knife away and say. "you can't have this here, tell your mom/dad to pick it up after school"...No need to f**king arrest the kid.
- Quay, on 12/15/2007, -28/+8She couldn't have brought food from home that needed to be cut? Honestly though, I'd cut it at home and then bring it to school. Most schools are insane with their zero tolerance policies on anything that can be considered a weapon.
- TheSabre, on 12/15/2007, -0/+39Hell yea. You can still stab someone to ***** with a pen. I'm surprised schools didn't start mandating crayons or finger paints for writing.

- edilclyde, on 12/15/2007, -0/+37"The girl was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center."
was she running around with the knife and trying to stab anyone? shes a ***** kid. arresting her is just a too much- Genevera, on 12/16/2007, -0/+6Right. She's only ten years old, and even the other students said she wasn't threatening anyone. They probably scared the poor kid *****. Why couldn't they just have calmly taken it away from her and left it at that?
- bbardlbradd, on 12/15/2007, -2/+23The jump in logic here is completely ridiculous. Plastic knives are just as dangerous if your intent is to harm someone, but they aren't as useful as a steak knife if you're just cutting food.
Now add the 10 year old girl and the people who witnessed her just cutting food... the unthreatened kids... also, that she said she's brought it before... and there have been no dead children found... or found to be missing... How did this get so out of hand???- Mononuclear, on 12/15/2007, -13/+4While I think this story is ridiculous and that they should have just taken the knife away no need for police, I'd like to see you kill someone with a plastic knife. Plastic knives are not just as dangerous as a steak knife. You could poke someone's eye out with a plastic knife.. you couldn't stab someone and it would take 20 minutes of sawing away to actually cut someone.
- acceptab1euname, on 12/15/2007, -0/+11Actually, I once got slashed up pretty good by a plastic knife...those serrations are a lot nastier than they look, especially if the thing doesn't break mid-use.
- goldfishey, on 12/16/2007, -1/+7Not hard - The throat is a more difficult target to get to, but a plastic knife (or fork for that matter) can still make a nice little hole. I mean you could always break the knife into a sharper splinter for better impact if want. It will probably break off in the wound -but it will still make a hole.
Rubber spoons anyone? - bbardlbradd, on 12/21/2007, -0/+1HAHA! You doubt that a plastic knife can harm someone??? Really??? Where's your common sense? I've heard of newspapers being used as knives, and being quite effective... to the point where they are banned from having in high security prisons.

- sjl127, on 12/16/2007, -0/+22A steak knife isn't a weapon - if it is, my kitchen's a weapon of mass destruction.
- goldfishey, on 12/16/2007, -2/+10your kitchen chair is a weapon if you smack someone in the head with it. Thats the problem, anything can be turned into a vehicle for assault. I imagine they ban knives because the wounds they make are usually deep, bleed out rapidly and can puncture organs. All things which are a bit diffucult to repair, and impossible if not attended to fairly quickly.
So no knives at school is fairly reasonable. But arresting the kid was plain overboard. Confiscate the knife, call her parents, give her detention even - but dont arrest the kid and send her off to a detention centre!

- an0nym0uz, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3Police with no common sense isn't anything new, just look at the NYPD. What's sad is though that this type of thing has become fairly typical in the past few years, the scary part is that these people are involved with educating your children!!!!!!!.

- edilclyde, on 12/15/2007, -1/+100i can't believe this. did someone in school just said " WHAT THE *****? THAT KID IS CUTTING HER FOOD! WITH A ***** KNIFE! CALL SWAT! "
sick. the girl will be traumatized for life.- cyranthus, on 12/15/2007, -0/+35i can just picture the police seeing it and running over from a distance... "NOOOO!!!! Shes a got a steak knife! Everybody down to the floor!"
- Fizban140, on 12/16/2007, -15/+6If the girl is traumatized for life by this, then she must be pretty ***** up in the head already from watching TV, or stepping outside.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 12/16/2007, -0/+4Yeah because being a 10 year old watching tv and going outside is the same as being cuffed and transported to a juvenile detention center for turning food into smaller more edible portions.
- lostmyleggins, on 12/16/2007, -1/+33she'll be fine once she learns to use a gun, then no one will ever take her knife away again.
- mpn401, on 12/15/2007, -3/+80And people wonder why kids are rebellious.
- Archon810, on 12/15/2007, -25/+7yeah, i'm sure it's because of isolated incidents like this and not because they just want to do whatever the ***** they want.
- Fizban140, on 12/16/2007, -14/+7Look out digg, it is common sense talking again better bury him down.
- tas08, on 12/16/2007, -2/+6If only it was isolated.
- Fizban140, on 12/16/2007, -1/+5You only think it isn't isolated because you read stuff like this on the internet. What sort of crazy things like that happened to you in school? I can't think of any that happened to me, except the one time the cops arrested this black guy for trying to get into the basketball game...after he beat one of the cops with a chain.
- Coslenchip, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1I read about a an incident similar to this about once a month at such-and-such a school in our nation. ZT has become standard practice in schools. ZT removes common sense from administrators. This is a problem.
- spudnic, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3By 'doing what they want' do you mean not obeying the rules?
Becuase if the rules say you can't cut up your dinner with a ***** knife then you can count me in as wanting to do what the ***** I want. - dragonrice, on 12/16/2007, -0/+5They might as well ban scissors and pencils too. Scissors can do more damage than knives.
- Archon810, on 12/15/2007, -25/+7yeah, i'm sure it's because of isolated incidents like this and not because they just want to do whatever the ***** they want.
- barius, on 12/16/2007, -9/+58(1) WTF was she doing bringing a steak knife to school at all? If I had done that when I was in high school I'd be in serious trouble to.
(2) Waaaay overreaction by the school. Take the knife away and bring the parents around for a talk, sure, but calling in the police and accusing her of a federal crime WTF??- Audacitor, on 12/16/2007, -0/+24She's not in high school. She's ten years old, which I believe translates to 5th grade.
- PorcupineTree, on 12/16/2007, -16/+4Agreed. It may only be a steak knife, and it may only be for cutting meat, but a ten-year-old kid /should/ know not to bring a knife to school. Underestimate a ten-year-old's intelligence all you want, but I wasn't that naive at that age.
- kashk5, on 12/16/2007, -1/+10Who's to say her parents didn't pack it in her lunch? Kid may not know any better if the parents didn't teach her.
- PorcupineTree, on 12/16/2007, -10/+4If it's the parents that have been packing the knife, then they're a little behind in the times because this zero-tolerance stuff has been going on for years. I don't understand how you couldn't have heard about it by now. Agreed, the kid may not have thought much of it if she'd brought it before, but I never needed my parents' guidance to not chance bringing a steak knife to school as it is understood by everyone that it carries the capacity to kill someone quite easily, and I knew when I was 10 that people freak out about that. I'm not agreeing with the punishment or the way it was handled, but how did she not know that it wasn't allowed?
- digioi, on 12/16/2007, -0/+13Zero-Tolerance is a problem then. I bet the kid carries a ***** load of pens, pencils, perhaps a ruler(with a metal edge), or sissors with her to school.... All of which can be used as a weapon... maybe we should ban those as well.. what you use these objects for determines if its a weapon or not. We have to use common sense when administering punishment. Sadly people, in general, lack that.
- PorcupineTree, on 12/16/2007, -9/+3Did I ONCE say that we should ban knives in my comment? All I'm saying is, regardless of your beliefs, the policy is still a policy and you should know that if you bring a knife to school, you're going to get in *****.
- DangerCollie, on 12/16/2007, -8/+34Try to see it from the school's standpoint. If they let a steak knife go then every gang banger will be carrying a steak knife. I think they did the right thing making an issue out of it, but I think a one-day suspension would have made the point.
I don't know, one of the top five killing weapons in the US is a screwdriver. Going to classify those as weapons? Sharpen a Popsicle stick and get charged with a felony? Zero tolerance is zero intelligence.
Our country is collectively going completely stupid.- PorcupineTree, on 12/16/2007, -1/+9In eighth grade, I got in ***** for bringing a small electronic screwdriver to school to use on an old computer we had sitting around in the classroom. It was confiscated, however I wasn't arrested for it.
- duke, on 12/16/2007, -1/+26If steak knives are outlawed, only outlaws will have steak knives!!!
- StarlessKnight, on 12/16/2007, -6/+2"The 10-year-old girl, a student at Sunrise Elementary School in Ocala, was charged possession of a weapon on school property, which is a felony."
One day suspension for a felony? Next you'll be releasing murderers after a month of confinement in a jail. Think of the gang bangers. Think of the children! /s- Coslenchip, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1I think his point is that it shouldn't be a felony, not that we shouldn't prosecute felons.
- buckrogers1965, on 12/16/2007, -0/+9You do realize that if someone is hurting someone else at school, then they are already breaking the law. The ones that are already breaking the law won't hesitate to hide a strait razor in their sock. All these dumb ass laws do is punish people for cutting up their steak at lunch. You know, like a civilized person with actual table manners. This is not the person you need to be afraid of.
- DeathfireD, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1I know allot of people in middle school that used to bring pocket knives to school. Once a teacher found out they where taken away from the person and a call was sent to their parents. The punishment after that was normally only a Saturday detention depending on why the knife was with the person to begin with. Now I know pocket knives and steak knives are different but considering the girl is only 10 years old I think they should have just called her parents since it was probably them that accidentally put it in her lunch box.
- fnaqzna, on 12/16/2007, -9/+7Yeah... it's a ***** rule... but I'm sure sometime in the past a school was sued because a student injured another with a knife.
Simple solution. Ban knives. With this in place the school is free of liability. Like it or not, that's what the school is doing, limiting liability.- Audacitor, on 12/16/2007, -5/+12Um... they did ban knives.
- bmdt2000, on 12/16/2007, -0/+4That's what he said. He's not saying they should ban knives (which is what I think you got out of it). He's saying that the solution WAS to ban knives.
- duke, on 12/16/2007, -3/+2And they probably would be immune from suit.
- fnaqzna, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2Which is the point.
- Dibou, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1So someone wants to bring a knife to the school to hurt someone else, and guess what? They bring the knife and hurt someone else. The school still gets sued. Zero-tolerance changes nothing.
The real solution is to ban all lawyers.- Coslenchip, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1There are other ways to stop lawsuits, namely, that parents have to sign a release before their children can attend the school. This is standard for all private schools, that if anything happens between another person and their child, the school will not be held liable. The kicker is that it is illegal for public schools to do this. Ii the parents refuse to sign the waver, the school can't deny the child access to the school.
- Audacitor, on 12/16/2007, -5/+12Um... they did ban knives.
- PorcupineTree, on 12/16/2007, -0/+63Times I've been stabbed with a pencil: 1
Times I've been stabbed with a knife: 0
Guess I don't have to do my homework now, do I? A pencil may not be as sharp as a knife but it can still ***** you up pretty badly, even kill you.- kutateli, on 12/16/2007, -0/+22pncil0wnd
- zeromous, on 12/16/2007, -0/+7Is that you Mikey? :)
- Dantetheinferno, on 12/16/2007, -0/+7Pens are even worse. All that ink and ***** inside you has to be terrible.
- BiohazardJ, on 12/16/2007, -0/+10I have been stabbed by a compass in my backpack on the way home.
- tyzent, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1my art teacher was impaled with a crocheying (spelling?) needle after he ran into a kid who had it in her backpack, ***** got three inches.
- fufuku, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2I can't believe I remember this but, when I was in elementary school a guy I knew asked another kid if he could stab him with a pencil. The kid said ok for some reason, and the guy stabbed him in the shin with the pencil. He got suspended and the kids parents sued over it. Moral of the story, ban anything sharp and pad the walls.
- darlyn, on 12/16/2007, -24/+1Will you people stop complaining? What the hell was she doing with a knife in the first place? The knives supplied by the school couldn't have been that bad. Just because she might not have had bad intentions with it doesn't mean she should have been excused.
- bagboyrebel, on 12/16/2007, -1/+18So you think a 10 year old should have been arrested for bringing an unapproved eating utensil?
- darlyn, on 12/16/2007, -5/+2Well, most schools do have a zero-tolerance policy against weapons. They provide you with a handbook/rulebook, and you can get one upon request. I know my school (which is generally lenient) explicitly states that anyone found possessing a weapon is will be turned over to local police.
- bagboyrebel, on 12/16/2007, -0/+7are you 10?
- Coslenchip, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1The point of the comments is not that the school was not following their procedure.
The point of the comments is that the procedure is INSANE.
- stklaw, on 12/16/2007, -0/+5You mean I should eat with the handbook/rulebook issued?
- dragonrice, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3A book is also a weapon. Haven't you watched The Bourne Ultimatum or w/e it's called?
- darlyn, on 12/16/2007, -5/+2Well, most schools do have a zero-tolerance policy against weapons. They provide you with a handbook/rulebook, and you can get one upon request. - Bootes, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2A gun is a weapon. A knife made for eating is not, unless it's used as one. If you're going to consider anything that can be used as a weapon a weapon, then you can't bring anything to school.
I'm glad the school I went to wasn't run by idiots.
- bagboyrebel, on 12/16/2007, -1/+18So you think a 10 year old should have been arrested for bringing an unapproved eating utensil?
- HypocriteDigg, on 12/16/2007, -20/+3***** Diggiots. If I had used a gun to cut my food in school, and got arrested for it, you dumbasses still would have dugg it up.
- bwdd, on 12/16/2007, -0/+12Because guns and knives are totally the same thing.
- Aythun, on 12/16/2007, -0/+14If someone used a gun to cut their food, that's reason enough to digg something up.
- thebrawl, on 12/16/2007, -0/+18no kidding. we had knives in school and we didn't even stab each other that often
- Ductapemaster, on 12/16/2007, -0/+12Honestly, this was happening when I was in elementary school ('96 to '02). Some kid brought a shotgun shell for show and tell and was expelled, and some other kid brought a super soaker to school and was expelled for having a "weapon look-alike" in his possession. It's sad, but true.
- Coslenchip, on 12/18/2007, -0/+1That makes it all the more sad that the rules have not yet been changed to something that is logical.
- seomike, on 12/16/2007, -0/+7The administration should all be handed pink slips this Christmas... Could have easily been resolved. If that was my daughter, I'd be raising some serious hell.

The story of how your school just took part in traumatizing a young girl for utilizing a piece of silverware in your school's cafeteria facility made worldwide news on the Internet today. Congratulations. All I can say is that I hope that someday your faculty and staff can acquire the knowledge and common sense that I, a 26 year old possesses which entails knowing when to just take something from a 10 year old and call and tell her parents instead of having her locked up frightened in a juvenile detention center. Great job, you've just been the exact opposite of supportive and approachable. Don't be surprised if this girl becomes introverted and detaches herself from reality and fears and refuses to trust anyone in authority in her life again. I hope it was worth it to follow rules so closely by the book that you don't let logic and common sense blind you.
I mean, no offense or anything, I just know sometimes people get so deep in their own world sometimes they need someone to mention what they're doing is absolutely insane and unreasonable. Just trying to help you out. Hope you had a nice weekend, I'm sure my e-mail won't be your first.

- Cyph3r201, on 12/16/2007, -3/+3Agreed. American media (FOX News especially) is so littered with propaganda, it's impossible to separate fact from ***** propaganda. But you needn't be unacceptable of all Americans, I don't watch any TV for this very reason and hate people that thing our government is the ideal democracy when it's nowhere near.
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/16/2007, -0/+6Well I'd love to go live in your country but I highly doubt you'd let me in.
- starkes, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1canada what! im already there.
- Wartz, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3Actually the vast majority of Americans are not descended from the puritans, but from other europeans/asians/africans. English, Germans, Irish, French, Nigerians, Spanish, Italians, Greeks, Poles, Russians, Chinese, Koreans, Scandinavians, etc etc etc. Most of us are only 3 to 6 generations separated from our immigrant history. So I blame you euros/asians/africans for making the US messed up.
Actually I blame all humans for being humans, forward the robot state!
wait, robots are technically "descended" from humans
*****, NO WAY OUT. - mysedai, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3Failed.
Puritans were the vast minority of early American settlers. They are the forefathers of only a small percentage of today's population. Also, a group of "skittish" settlers wouldn't have lasted long enough in Colonial America to have descendants.
I have a theory about every nationality that likes to make collective statements to bash Americans: you're descended from people who were equally ***** up as the people we are descended from. That's why you're all as equally ***** up, you pompous pricks- TheReport, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1you just proved my point
- TheReport, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1oh by the way the only reason the "skittish" settlers made it through the harsh New England winters is because of the Indians they exploited then eventually murdered. Happy Thanksgiving there slapnuts
- mysedai, on 12/20/2007, -0/+0Wow, do they actually teach you American history in school wherever the ***** you're from, or do you just repeat the commercial ***** you learned at your mother's apron strings?
If you knew exactly how ***** uneducated you are, you'd stf and go hide in a corner.
- mysedai, on 12/20/2007, -0/+0Wow, do they actually teach you American history in school wherever the ***** you're from, or do you just repeat the commercial ***** you learned at your mother's apron strings?
- Dibou, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1TheReport's comments prove that he is from an ignorant, backwards country that loves to America bash. Yet, for some reason he is too scared to let us know which country he is from.

- Handcannons, on 12/16/2007, -13/+2It is a common sense thing, but look at who runs the schools and makes school policy - liberals. At all school levels teachers and administrators are far more liberal than conservative and have been moving further left for years.
- PandarenLord, on 12/16/2007, -2/+10What? That is completely unfounded in fact. I find it funny when people "pull statistics out of their ass." Besides, how do you think to analyze that on a national scale?
- itsme7g, on 12/16/2007, -1/+8BS, look at the rules for getting on a plane in the US. Those aren't liberal rules. Grandma can't bring her 40 year old tiny sewing scissors or a bottle of water on. These are idiot rules. Not liberal or conservative rules.

- Lewie, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1I'm liberal, and I didn't want any of that. I thought liberalism was "do what you want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else". The people who push the things you mentioned are paranoid, controlling parents.

- offthewagon, on 12/16/2007, -7/+11Public school isn't the devil. No one walks away from a public school "re-educated." No one takes public school seriously enough to use it as a foundation for their development. The Internet is a bigger player in kids' lives. Hell, Halo is a bigger player in Kids' lives.
- buckrogers1965, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1http://www.fff.org/freedom/fd0611a.asp
There are two major values of public schooling, from the perspective of government officials. One, this institution provides the means by which government officials can slowly but surely, over a period of 12 years, mold the mindsets of children into one of conformity and obedience to authority. Second, public schooling enables government officials to fill children’s minds with officially approved political, historical, and economic doctrine.- offthewagon, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1The main purpose of a public school is to teach the culture of the society in which it operates. Every school is like that. Even parents of home schoolers aren't giving their children fair and balanced views of the world. They have decided that the public school system teaches too much or not enough of one particular thing, so they keep them home to focus on what THEY think is important. They become the authority that requires obedience. In effect, anyone who teaches is teaching conformity--whether it is with their own views or society's, it doesn't really make a difference.
FYI, The creators of this website probably went to public school. In fact, Kevin Rose worked for the Department of Energy. Does that mean "Digg" is an indirect means toward breeding conformity? Yikes, I got goosebumps.

- TheNepenthe, on 12/16/2007, -1/+4I don't know, the education could be a little bit better, but some kids still don't respond well to schools. Public and private. The students are still mean and cruel no matter what school you're at as well, so if you have a kid who DOES hate everyone and is very angry, then they would very likely be tempted to harm others with an object, whatever it maybe. And that would lead to not really anyone's fault but the child's mind not being able to cope, and you can't blame that on anyone. Unless the kid is abused, then sure, there's a blame.
But at 10 years old? That's where it's ridiculous. It's like people forgot that children ARE innocent.
Unless, 10 year olds aren't anymore. :/ - bxblox, on 12/16/2007, -0/+5i went to both private and public schools, aside from size theyre not all that different

- crichton101, on 12/15/2007, -2/+13yes, and you know why we do this, so that it doesn't happen again. - sherbertbones, on 12/16/2007, -5/+2What the hell are you talking about? The OP spun the story to serve as the product of a societal and global problem. You could argue that in theory, but he just stated it as fact, which is basically a 9th grader mentality...and probably your grade level.
- Hoogs, on 12/16/2007, -0/+8Pretty much all schools across the country have become like this. Some girl in my area who had a PLASTIC BUTTER KNIFE in her car wasn't allowed to graduate and was expelled. Yeah, it's that bad.

- NikkiA, on 12/16/2007, -0/+20Ah, but, they've replaced the knives in schools with plastic knives, and in some cases sporks. I get to feel rich, i still have metal ones.- Yamaste, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2You forgot the other reason 10 year old girls take their own knives to school, to shank bitches. The plastic knives take too long, and create quite the mess.

- Dantetheinferno, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2Pffft.
- InsaneOni, on 12/16/2007, -0/+37Yep, they gave us knives @ my elementary school in the 90's too. Heck, I carried a pocket knife with me most of the time in elementary, middle, and high school. Guess they're a little more paranoid now since it must be so hard to overpower a 10yr old w/ a knife.
- jsd8cc, on 12/16/2007, -0/+4Your post reminded me that I also used to carry a little Swiss Army knife in high school. I'd even whip it out sometimes for a quick fix with a physics project or something...very handy. This was in the late 90's. Granted it was a smaller town, but still.
- jer2eydevil88, on 12/16/2007, -0/+5I had a small pocket knife on me at all times in elementary school and later graduated to carrying a leatherman on me in high school. I graduated in 2003 but I heard that in early 2007 they installed security cameras and won't even let kids carry scissors. For some reason it seems the more restrictions they put on the kids the more episodes of school violence we hear about... I am a big advocate for governments to spend the money making the kids feel comfortable at school instead of equiping the schools staff to be swat teams.
- p51d007, on 12/16/2007, -2/+13amazing how the nanny state has taken over........when I was in high school in the 70's, it was VERY COMMON for

- sherbertbones, on 12/15/2007, -53/+7Yeah, let's take one news story and generalize it into an umbrella term for the rest of the world. Such a Digg ethos...pathetic.
- Error601, on 12/15/2007, -27/+320There's nothing wrong with the rule but arrested is dumb. Just call up the parents and say don't send sharp knives. The kid probably grabbed it anyway and they didn't know. I sure don't let young kids handle the steak knives on their own.
- AlanLivingston, on 12/15/2007, -22/+121You don't let your 10-year0old kids handle a steak knife? Hell, my four year old already practices cutting his own food. When we have meat, he tries to use a steak knife. He gets help, if he needs it.
I guess you're prepping your kids for one of those prestigious burger-flipping jobs. Oh wait, the fryer might be too dangerous for them. How about school lunchroom steak-knife lookout?
Seriously, if a child is smart enough to realize the utensils they provide her aren't good enough to allow her to eat and she plans ahead and brings a steak knife from home, obviously, she's mature enough to use a steak knife. Zero-Tolerance gone wild, in my opinion.- minoss, on 12/16/2007, -5/+10So you have no issue with your 10 year old kid being around 50+ other kids, all with steak knives, and minimal supervision?
- botvis, on 12/16/2007, -2/+17No, and the fact that people do have issues with it does not speak well for the parenting in this country.
- PorcupineTree, on 12/16/2007, -1/+8botvis, some children exhibit sociopath-like behavior that goes away with time, regardless of how they are brought up. Some of these may be the schoolyard bullies that kids come across every day, and they do not remain that way for the rest of their lives. If I'm not mistaken, a diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder cannot be made until the age of 18 because of this exact reason. I've come across such kids during my time at elementary school that would not have a problem with sticking someone once or twice with a knife, and I would not trust them in the same cafeteria as my kids if they had a steak knife in their hands.
- thegreatgazoo, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1Honestly, you could screw up people just as much with a sharp #2 pencil as you can with a steak knife. Not to mention a compass.
Unless they are special ed kids with autism or something like that, I wouldn't have had a problem. In high school we had a rifle team (inner city school in St. Louis) with 0 problems. We also carried pocket knives sometimes just because they were handy (again, 0 problems) - anareric, on 12/16/2007, -0/+5Actually, having, over the course of my life, stabbed or cut myself with pencils, compasses and knives I can say that knives do much more damage.
- asforme, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1Having had the same experiences I say that a pencil can be much worse. The knife and compass comes out clean. I had a pencil break off in my arm and get covered by the skin so that it had to be dug out. Not to mention that because I am quite squeamish, after being stabbed I fainted and had a concussion due to hitting 3 shelves on a TV cart with my head on the way down.
- StarlessKnight, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2PorcupineTree: But pencils, pens, and scissors... no problem? Are you presuming these sociopath-like kids are too dim to realize what other sharp objects are at their disposal to harm the people around them? It takes a knife to trigger their latent aggression?
Anareric: Of course, knives are made to cut and penetrate tissue quite well compared to pencils, pens, scissors, etc. But if a kid's intent on hurting another, multiple puncture wounds wont do any one any favors.
Lets all agree to make the plastic knives at least a little more effective? A compromise.
- PorcupineTree, on 12/16/2007, -3/+9I don't understand why you're being dugg up so much when PurePicaroon and minoss just undermined everything you said. Reading comprehension. Maybe you should go back to one of those prestigious burger-flipping jobs because there was no need for throwing all that ***** at Error.
- anareric, on 12/16/2007, -1/+7It is a good rule to not allow knives in school. I'm glad your kid is learning to use a steak knife at home, but if you allow a kid to have a steak knife at school the next kid can say his switch blade is for cutting the crust off his PB&J. Not to mention the fact that if this little girl cut herself with her own knife the school would get sued. I carry a pocket knife every day for work and for it's general usefulness, but I can't take it with me everywhere (any place with a metal detector) so I leave it at home or in the car. It's no big deal.
- minoss, on 12/16/2007, -5/+10So you have no issue with your 10 year old kid being around 50+ other kids, all with steak knives, and minimal supervision?
- yevkasem, on 12/15/2007, -32/+7what exactly does a 10 year old bring to lunch that requires a steak knife? and, if your child is mature enough to handle one, does that mean every child at the lunch table is?
but, seeing as how you're the responsible parent, i guess all that matters is your child, and pushing as far as you can until you force people to make you cry against your rights.- crichton101, on 12/15/2007, -0/+23We let all 16 year olds get a drivers license and they get to keep them as long as they don't get caught breaking the law. By you're analogy we should not let any 16 year old drive a car because not every 16 year old is responsible enough to drive a car without breaking the law or getting into an accident. When I was a 8th grade oh so many years ago, there was a dumbass who took the metal strip off of the wooden ruler and then stuck in the wall socket int he back of the classroom. Since he's an idiot does that mean that no kid should be allowed to bring a wooden ruler with a metal strip attached to it to school? And of course some kids are really immature and will throw rulers and pencils so I guess we have to not let kids take either of those things to school anymore either. And books, well god, a book is heavy, especially history books, they could be used to hit another kid with, we better take away all their books while we're at it. Just because you don't know how to raise your child to be mature and responsible doesn't mean you can police everyone elses kids because your kids are idiots.
- PorcupineTree, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2We have tests to screen kids that aren't fit to be driving. A kid dumb enough to stick a metal strip in an outlet is either severely uninformed or a victim of natural selection. There's no way of screening an eight year old kid who might decide to stab someone, and they do exist, regardless of parenting skills. I hate how people constantly bring up parenting skills because regardless, kids will get in fights and do stupid things unsupervised, so stop blaming it on poor parenting. As for comparing a textbook to a knife, a textbook might give a kid a mild concussion, while a knife could just as easily kill a kid.
- StormyAaron, on 12/15/2007, -0/+9But why should we always allow the non responsible people to take away the rights of the responsible? Why should we allow mass hysteria to blind common scene and reasonable reactions to events? Such as maybe just taking the knife away, she was using just to cut food. When I was her age the cheese in the pizza was very rubbery, which is where a knife would of been handly in cutting it instead of fighting the cheese with your teeth.
- minoss, on 12/16/2007, -4/+2Bringing a steak knife to school isn't a right.
- voyvf, on 12/15/2007, -1/+4Leftover steak or pork chops? However, not considering how easily freaked out schools can be is sort of asking for trouble. If it needed to be cut up before they brought it to school, the parents should have made sure the child prepared the food prior to leaving the house. Alas, common sense apparently isn't.
Now, I'm not saying that the child should have been arrested. That sort of knee-jerk, "everybody panic!" reaction is appalling, and really quite sad. Grow some balls, people. I'm sure that if the 10 year old was planning on hurting someone, they'd have nicked a firearm from somewhere.

- bmnrocks, on 12/16/2007, -2/+12So I guess my 11yo daughter shouldn't have been using a steak knife for the past 5yrs of her life. Where did I go wrong....
- jdaniel284, on 12/16/2007, -4/+10"There's nothing wrong with the rule"..... YOU are part of the problem. Yes, go look in the mirror. See that person there? That person is part of the PROBLEM.
- delmar14, on 12/16/2007, -3/+5Thats because your a pussy
- platipuz, on 12/16/2007, -3/+2"Just call up the parents and say don't send sharp knives." Kind of defeats the purpose of having a knife doesn't it? I can just see it now, a couple of young children going off to school and their mother stops them "Wait kids, don't forget your piece of rounded metal!"
- TripcodeMel, on 12/16/2007, -1/+3There's everything wrong with the rule. Zero tolerance is zero sense for those with zero brains.
- tsos2, on 12/16/2007, -1/+4Soon pencils and pens will be banned. Very pointy objects can be a weapon. When will these idiots learn that anything can be a weapon if used the correct way. This is an outrage and her parents should go nuts on the school board, school and police.
- rawheadrex, on 12/16/2007, -2/+5Wait... some of you ***** actually don't agree that the rule, which says you can't bring what could be construed as a weapon (and I don't know what kind of sorry-ass steak knives you use, but the steak knives I know and use
E.g.,
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thum ...
can VERY easily be construed as a *****' assault weapon), ISN'T reasonable?
I'm sure the girl had no intention of hurting anyone with the knife; but, how can they explain to young homicidal psycopath that it's OK for her to bring a knife but not him?
The only thing ***** up about this story is that they arrested the poor girl. The girl definitely should not have brought a steak knife to school. - rawheadrex, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2Oh, and let me just add that if this is really about public school vs. private school; if said private schools allow their students to bring *****' steak knives to school, then I sure as ***** ain't sending my kids there (and *****' paying for that ***** to boot).
- AlanLivingston, on 12/15/2007, -22/+121You don't let your 10-year0old kids handle a steak knife? Hell, my four year old already practices cutting his own food. When we have meat, he tries to use a steak knife. He gets help, if he needs it.
- Iconoclast25, on 12/15/2007, -44/+22Typical PC nonsense. Even before 9-11, our local school system prohibited *nail clippers* as "dangerous weapons."

- Beakerz, on 12/15/2007, -1/+12I just graduated in 2006 (from high school) and my girlfriend and I got in trouble multiple times for holding hands while walking down the halls.... then if I asked them why they (the teachers or whichever Nazi it was) would immediately start threatening detention or even suspension.... our school systems have gone completely stupid.
Not an example of a deadly weapon, but just to make a point. Oh, and we weren't allowed to take blow up dolls to OUR graduations, it has been tradition for as long as anyone in my family can remember for our high school graduates to do that. We brought them anyway and the faculty just started to grab them and stab them with knives or pencils....so annoying. The parents booed them btw :D- Travelsonic, on 12/15/2007, -0/+6They should have booked 'em too, that's destruction of property... that isn't theirs... isn't that I dunno illegal?

- abericart, on 12/16/2007, -2/+2Again, why does this have anything to do with liberalism? Isn't Florida Jeb Bush's territory? Furthermore, the area seems to be CONSERVATIVE seeing as their Congressman is Cliff Stearns (Republican). The modern culture of fear is being perpetrated by the neocons, so don't be so quick to blame liberals for everything, even though Rush Limbaugh tells you to.
- daeggman, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2Don't be so naive. The neocons play on the fear of terrorism while the ultralibs play on the fear of "someone being offended or having their feelings hurt".

- linaman2, on 12/15/2007, -61/+19no she got arrested for bringing a knife to school. The fact that she was cutting food with it had absolutley nothing to do with the arrest.
- eclipse007, on 12/15/2007, -2/+66or maybe they could have talked to her and explained why it is wrong to bring knives to school instead of arresting and sending her to 'juvenile assessment center'.
If she did it again, then more serious approach could be taken.- NathanielJ, on 12/15/2007, -7/+7To be fair, the article said that she had brought the knife in before, so maybe this WAS the "she did it again" situation?
Not saying that arresting her is the way to go, just playing Devil's Advocate. - yevkasem, on 12/15/2007, -11/+7FROM THE ARTICLE:
The girl told sheriff's deputies that she had brought the knife to school on more than one occasion in the past.
she's done it numerous times.
GOD FORBID WE READ ANYTHING 15 LINES LONG.- crichton101, on 12/15/2007, -1/+7well if she told them then she was never caught bringing it in and never caused any problems with it. it's still a gross over reaction from the school and the police.

- KOSmurfy, on 12/15/2007, -1/+12Correct. Of course, that doesn't make their response any less retarded given the circumstances. Zero tolerance policies are *****.
- kazimierczuk, on 12/16/2007, -1/+2Yet if she was threatening people with it, it would.
- S1ngular1ty1, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2Little kids don't need steak knives at school for any reason. I don't care how you raise your kids, it is just a bad idea to have deadly weapons like steak knives in the hands of irresponsible kids at school. I know many other things can be deadly like pencils, pens, spoons, etc if you really wanted to hurt someone. But it is far easier to get hurt accidentally with a steak knife than it is to hurt yourself with a pen.
You people need to grow up and realize that 90% of people are stupid and can't be trusted. I know many grown people who can't handle a steak knife without hurting themselves.
The rule is a good rule but the enforcement of the rule in this case was absurd. The school should have just taken the kid to the principles office and called here parents to inform them of what she was doing and that it was against school policy.
- eclipse007, on 12/15/2007, -2/+66or maybe they could have talked to her and explained why it is wrong to bring knives to school instead of arresting and sending her to 'juvenile assessment center'.
- sixsidepentagon, on 12/15/2007, -51/+13So to all you people complaining, it'd be alright if someone brought a knife to school? You're actually okay with that? Stop with the knee jerk reactions, and try to see through the spin on this.
The title is inaccurate, as linaman2 said.- treas, on 12/15/2007, -0/+23I'd be perfectly fine with it. She did not bring the knife to school for any other reason than to cut her food. She did not threaten anyone. She's also 10 years old - does she really deserve to be charged with a felony? Now she'll probably have a residual resentment towards law enforcement because of this.
It's just stupid *****.- griz, on 12/16/2007, -3/+1The she's only 10 line doesn't fly. Just Google for "10 year old kills" and you will see why.
Sure this may not have been the case here, but had she cut her food at lunch and then stabbed a teacher later, then it would be the administrators catching hell for letting her keep the knife.
- griz, on 12/16/2007, -3/+1The she's only 10 line doesn't fly. Just Google for "10 year old kills" and you will see why.
- mooseontheloose, on 12/15/2007, -0/+38Are you OK with them bringing pencils to school? Sharpen that sucker and it'll stab someone right in the eye.
Pencils are for writing. Steak knives are for cutting food. So yeah, I'm OK with it. - tradwolley, on 12/15/2007, -2/+8Yeah, the title is inaccurate, but still a ten year old arrested??? A suspension, or something else would be understandable, but seriously, what is wrong with these people, she was just eating lunch.
- stinger666, on 12/15/2007, -8/+9It should be alright to bring ANYTHING at school. It is a constitutional right to bear arms. There would never have been any school shooting if people in schools had guns to defend themselves. Bad people will always find a way to get firearms. Only good people are hurt by these stupid laws. Besisdes, would you live in a country that only governement and gangsters had the right to possess a gun? Would you feel "safer"?
- MrSelfDestruct, on 12/15/2007, -9/+4"It is a constitutional right to bear arms."

- retral, on 12/16/2007, -2/+2So.. you think kids should carry guns in school? Think about it, dumbass.. kids get into fights all the time and are very irrational short term. Having a gun carries no other purpose than to kill. You want kids shooting each other over little things kids fight about?
Knives, on the other hand.. are useful for a lot of things, cutting food, sharpening pencils, cutting strings.. etc.
I support the right to bear arms, but your argument in this case, stinger666, is just plain stupid. Yeah, lets have our kids carry guns for 'protection'.. There's a reason most states only sell pistols & allow concealed carry for ONLY adults - it's because kids are too ignorant to think it over.
- MrSelfDestruct, on 12/15/2007, -9/+4"It is a constitutional right to bear arms."
- rficwizard, on 12/15/2007, -0/+26I carried a knife in my pocket every day to school. On several occasions I used it for peaceful purposes in view of teachers, with no worry that they would punish me for doing so. A knife is a tool, not a weapon. You cannot make children safe by removing every tool that could be used as a weapon, because that would require that they not be allowed to wear ties, belts, carry pencils, etc. I never even considered using a knife in a fight, because a) my parents would have punished me, b) my teachers would have punished me, c) the police would have punished me, d) my peers would have ostracized me, and e) the victim's friends would have beaten me to a pulp. What happened to common sense in this country?

Two word answer: "Political Correctness" . . . .
Three word answers: (a) "Liberal Political Correctness" or (b) "Politically Correct Liberals"
- KOSmurfy, on 12/15/2007, -0/+15Scenario #1: Kid brings knife to school. Kid stabs someone. Kid is arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, etc.
Scenario #2: Kid brings knife to school. Kid cuts his food with knife. Kid enjoys a tasty meal. Kid is arrested for having a knife.
The law against bringing a knife to school only applies to the kid who did NOT stab anyone. Notice that the kid who did stab someone would already be hit with a serious charge without the ***** law. Also notice that this law wouldn't prevent kid #1 from stabbing anyone.- Sprules04, on 12/16/2007, -0/+4Your logic is irrefutable. Run for congress so I can vote for you.
- hplasm, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3#1 & #2:- A lawyer gets paid. hmmm.
- daeggman, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2This is the problem with the reactionary measures our government is so prone to taking when it comes to these kind of situations. The laws don't do anything to dissuade the actual criminals - they only serve to make the good, law-abiding citizens less free.
Right now, in Pennsylvania, there's a gun control law under debate that would limit buyers to one handgun a month. At first, my reaction was against the NRA people who were all up in arms saying it was a violation of second amendment rights - who seriously needs to buy more than one gun a month? But then I thought about it from their POV - the criminals who are using these guns, they don't give a ***** about gun laws. The gun laws don't do anything to stop the people who would use the guns to commit crimes - they're already do something illegal, and you think a little pesky gun law is going to do anything to deter them?
Instead of passing new laws that criminals are going to ignore anyway, how about we work better to enforce the laws that are currently on the books?
- Handcannons, on 12/16/2007, -0/+0Of course it would be Ok for someone to bring a knife to school. Some of use grew up when that was common, almost every boy carried at least a pocket knife if not a full size lock back folder to school from grade school on. No one got stabbed, no one called the police or got arrested for cutting up lunch. There was far less violent crime before everything that might be viewed as a weapon was banned.
- treas, on 12/15/2007, -0/+23I'd be perfectly fine with it. She did not bring the knife to school for any other reason than to cut her food. She did not threaten anyone. She's also 10 years old - does she really deserve to be charged with a felony? Now she'll probably have a residual resentment towards law enforcement because of this.
- aguitarhero, on 12/15/2007, -8/+402Could someone tell me why America has this fascination with "zero tolerance policies"?
Surely it would be better to look at each case, and judge accordingly, then to just arrest people because they happen to just fit in to the parameters of such a policy.- tavisjohn, on 12/15/2007, -3/+23Because some people would consider any variance to be favoritism. Example:
Child A has a plastic knife, Child B has a steak knife. Child B's parents complain, "My child should not get suspended if Child A is not suspended"
Zero tolerance, means no thinking on the part of the enforcers, there is no dealing with complainers later, it is over less hassle! The down side is the rules that are Zero Tolerance are often vague, and easy to abuse.- Barryke, on 12/15/2007, -0/+14nonetheless its the defacto example of stupid.
- N080dy, on 12/16/2007, -0/+13This gets about 20 times as messy if Child B is black and Child A is white.
- UnoriginalMind, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1Does it get 40 times as messy if Child B is gay?
- tas08, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3The solution: To parents B - too bad, a steak knife is not plastic. Suck it.
But alas, common sense never seems to prevail. The parents will b*tch and moan and then the kid grows up to be just as much of an a**hat who cannot use common sense and good judgment.
- BigW, on 12/15/2007, -0/+47I would like to propose a "zero-tolerance policy" for administrators that fail to use common sense when judging school policy violations and send 10 year olds of to juvenile detention.
- altshiftM, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1I second this motion
- bl4h, on 12/15/2007, -10/+4because its gets rid of gray area. in our society people like playing the law. with zero tolerance policy things are very straight forward
- aguitarhero, on 12/15/2007, -0/+9But it shouldn't be, because everything isn't black and white. The law shouldn't be simple if it compromises justice.
- bl4h, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1Youre right everything isnt black and white. which means some things are, and in the case of bringing knives to school there should be zero tolerance
- WaltDismal, on 12/15/2007, -0/+56It's about:
- a litigation-happy public and stupid parents
- idiots in charge of schools
- gangs in (some) schools
- control over the population, getting the sheep used to accepting endless and increasingly restrictive rules
- the death of common sense
- knee-jerk reactions by those in authority
And more...
But hey, this is the beginning of the fall of Rome anyway.- johnnykalma, on 12/16/2007, -2/+2Rome was better then America. don't even compare the two.
- WaltDismal, on 12/16/2007, -0/+2It certainly was a better time for lions, though not maybe for Christians.
- johnnykalma, on 12/16/2007, -2/+2Rome was better then America. don't even compare the two.
- KataLieb, on 12/15/2007, -0/+17Nah, its all about stupidity!
When you have absolute, zero tolerance rules, you dont need to THINK at all, or use your common sense. Thats how you get people to come along for your fascist police state dreams - "it says so right here in the lawbook, i cant help it!"- OttawaMarcin, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1Exactly -- ***** the constitution, we need to support zero tolerance!
- accessviolation, on 12/15/2007, -0/+16Because most people in positions of "power" are barely able to wipe their own asses let alone examine a situation based on its own merit. That combined with the uncontrollable fear that accompanies absolute stupidity causes them to cling to zero tolerance policies like a ***** security blanket.
- Zera, on 12/16/2007, -0/+12I think it's for a different reason entirely. Zero tolerance is just a bogus idea that SOUNDS really good. Our school has a NO TOLERANCE POLICY ON KNIVES! YEA!!! HEIL!!!
It sounds good to parents, it sounds good to the school board, and it sticks. Sounding good != Good - delmar14, on 12/16/2007, -0/+11America is based around the lowest common denominator. We make rules because most people in this country are too stupid to think for themselves...at all.
- ogden, on 12/16/2007, -2/+6In the USA (and perhaps elsewhere?) ignorant minorities frequently view *any* action taken against one of their precious snowflakes as racism. The idea behind zero tolerance was to be able to punish anyone brutally without being accused of racism. The most recent case that comes to mind is the case of a kid named Devon Brown in Los Angeles. He was a 13 year old kid shot and killed while trying to run over a police officer in a car he'd stolen. The black community demonstrated against the police instead of asking themselves what is wrong with their culture that allows a 13 year old to be out stealing cars.
In reality these policies are just taking us closer to a police state. *NO* adult in these chain of events had the good sense to put a stop to this madness. I can't believe a police officer would come and arrest a girl for having a steak knife. How close are we to a police state when all these people endowed with the publics trust won't use common sense? - Frnnkdlxx, on 12/16/2007, -2/+3Stop with all that Common sense b.s! What, do you think you're an American Lawyer? Go free an innocent person you LIB![sic]
- griz, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1That would require an individual administrator to make a judgement. Leaving the entire blame to fall on that individual. Blame the lovely litigious society we live in.
- bxblox, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1welcome to the land of mandatory minimums
- elementfire, on 12/16/2007, -0/+3Since no one else has, I'm going go go ahead and say, "Slippery Slope."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope - absurdist, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1Because no administrator anywhere in the U.S. wants to make any decision that might have any effect whatsoever on his/her civil service benefits and retirement.
- tavisjohn, on 12/15/2007, -3/+23Because some people would consider any variance to be favoritism. Example:
- JimmySpaza, on 12/15/2007, -51/+15There used to be a time when teenagers brought firearms to school with them for shooting matches and practice after school. There were no shooting epidemics then. Same thing with knives. It's all about the morality taught to children nowadays...or lack thereof.
You see, when you replace objective moral teachings with feel-good secular humanistic baloney, you get these problems. Why? Because being told by a bureaucrat to behave is not quite the same thing as knowing that the eyes of God are upon you 24/7.
Government schools - the great liberal experiment has failed miserably. Are there still any supporters left?- romistrub, on 12/15/2007, -6/+26Yes. It's all because we lack the guidance of Christianity. I can't remember the last time I've heard of a Christian doing something reprehensible. Oh... wait...
- MeThePeople, on 12/15/2007, -4/+31i almost agreed with you. till some how you made it about god.
- bobakanush, on 12/15/2007, -2/+10I was thinkin the exact same thing. >_
- theonlywizdum, on 12/15/2007, -0/+13I live in Maine, which happens to be a big hunting area. Our homeroom teacher said that when he first started teaching, students used to leave their hunting rifles in the back of the room, now students get busted for leaving guns/ knives in their vehicles, this never used to be that big of a problem. Although i disagree with the second half of your post, something has changed.
- quiznos, on 12/15/2007, -1/+9and just when I thought JamesSpaza was done for..
- thebellmaster1x, on 12/15/2007, -2/+8Oh, hey, JamesSpaza. I sure have missed your unbelievable douchebaggery; good to see you back.
- hplasm, on 12/16/2007, -1/+4Started really well there- then your brain fell out again. Back to the shop for a refit!
- abericart, on 12/16/2007, -1/+1Again, why does this have anything to do with liberalism? Isn't Florida Jeb Bush's territory? Furthermore, the area seems to be CONSERVATIVE seeing as their Congressman is Cliff Stearns (Republican). The modern culture of fear is being perpetrated by the neocons, so don't be so quick to blame liberals for everything, even though Rush Limbaugh tells you to.
- vortex22222, on 12/15/2007, -1/+171Think what would have happened had she been singing "Welcome to the Jungle" at the same time....

- Eunonia, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1did they read her her Miranda Rights and did they cuff her. After this is a felony charge. Sometime I think that we humans should be put down by an unknown force for our stupidity in life. And don't say that we have not evolved far enough. I think that people what like 10 centuries ago would not done this like that.

- carpespasm, on 12/16/2007, -0/+1by george you're right. Come to think of it you can stab someone pretty well with a plastic for or a broken plastic spoon. Maybe they should ban eating anything with utensils and puree everything in the lunch line that isn't made by Hershey, Mars, Frito-Lay, Coke, or Pepsi.
