- WendyThomas, on 03/20/2009, -0/+34"The naked truth is that Rhode Island’s economy is among the worst in the nation, with an unemployment rate of 10.3 percent in January."
I love how much legit news sites love puns. - inactive, on 03/22/2009, -0/+18Wonder how many career woman that lost there jobs will apply.
"Hot CEO action! huge inflations!" - el_jefe, on 03/22/2009, -0/+18FTA: "‘Foxy Lady’ club in R.I. looks to fill openings in bad economy"
Funny...the guys go there hoping to fill some openings too. - Mtdewrulz, on 03/22/2009, -0/+15I worked as a barback in a strip club for two years, and it was... interesting. The money is ridiculously good considering what you're really doing and the skills involved. I bought a new car with cash after less than a year of working there. On the other hand, you see the worst society has to offer on a daily basis. A great number of the customers are sleazy guys with no social skills and most of the dancers are on OCs... some are on heroin. If you can deal with the cold reality of it all, it's a pretty good job.
Either way, I have a degree in economics and can't find a job in my field, so I'm thinking about going back to a club. - acmaurer, on 03/20/2009, -0/+14Wow! Well at least some places are hiring!
- KenSPT, on 03/22/2009, -1/+13I'm in a fortunate position right now. I'm a 26 year old guy, I'm not married, I have a full time job that is paying very well despite the recession, and I'm able to pay my bills monthly without issue.
That being said, I guarantee you if I weren't in the spot I'm in, and if I needed money to support my family and pay my bills, I'd have no qualms about taking a position at an establishment at a strip club.
No, it might not be a "respected position", and I might not enjoy it, but at the end of the day a job is a job; especially in this economy. Sometimes you have to check pride at the door when you've got people who rely on you. - inactive, on 04/03/2009, -0/+11“It’s not as bad as restaurants and stuff like that. In times like this, they seem to drink their sorrows away.”
Well, I guess there's always a bright side to a 10.3% unemployment rate... - IphtashuFitz, on 03/22/2009, -0/+8Only as long as some of those 10.3% are ATTRACTIVE and willing to take their clothes off!
- inactive, on 03/22/2009, -0/+7They would make more money by putting AIG executives on the pole and letting people throw rotten tomatoes and fruit at them.
- Bukowsky, on 03/20/2009, -1/+8wonder if they also had an all-day buffet too.
- frousfroud, on 03/22/2009, -1/+7Yeah, you're a real genius.
- drkroman9, on 03/22/2009, -0/+4what strip club are you going to.... the ones around me are practically prostitution rings..
- EarlOfLade, on 03/22/2009, -1/+5Strip clubs? Like in strip down to your undies type of clubs?
The few strip clubs I've been to in this country have been utterly boring and not showing anything you can't see much cheaper on the beach (and better bodies too).
Let me know when you get a live show club. - ruarctb, on 03/22/2009, -1/+5@frousfroud
Truck drivers make hell of a lot of money and there's always a larger demand for them than there are drivers. Maybe not what most want to make a career of, but its a good backup plan. - Mtdewrulz, on 03/22/2009, -0/+31.5 - 3%??? Where was that guy working? I have gotten 10 - 20% at every barback job I've worked.
- CoD4, on 03/22/2009, -0/+3They have no choice when they're exposing these people to the public
- Jhiaxuz, on 03/22/2009, -0/+3It's like they're bending over backwards for attention.
- PowderedToasty, on 03/23/2009, -0/+2I live in providence too and think it's awesome! So there.
- cplusplus, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2I had never heard of barbacks so looked it up...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barback - Biscuitz, on 03/22/2009, -1/+3You could also take up being a housekeeper, landscaping, and other such jobs. *shrugs*.
Stripping would be a serious LAST resort to me, and I mean so much as I've checked out delivering papers as a job option. Lol - JonTheGoose, on 03/22/2009, -4/+6Daddies, keep your babies off the pole.
- Paranor01, on 03/22/2009, -0/+28" Stiletto heels, thrown with the caption "you make it stick, free drink at the bar!"
No.. I'm not being serious, but sometimes you just gotta dream to help get the anger away lol. - inactive, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2Actually, floundering means struggling or faltering.
- mike23w, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2"I'm a 26 year old guy....
That being said, I guarantee ... I'd have no qualms about taking a position at an establishment at a strip club."
What about a gay strip club? - davdev, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2Foxy Lady is full nude and alcohol is served. Some states have rules against full nude or full nude with alcohol, RI doesn't. Hell prostitution is legal in RI as long as it is all conducted in doors (lophole in the law that was just discovered a few years ago and no one wants to change). Some "strip clubs" in RI are nothing more than glorified brothels ... Cheaters, I am thinking of you.
- RyeBrye, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2Are there any jobs in economics? I always thought of that as a pre-professional degree. (eg pre-law, pre-mba)
- wilf_brim, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2Been to that establishment in the distant past. It was a pretty nice tittie bar; clean, well kept up, nice. The dancers were also good looking, something not at all common (despite what you would think).
My ex had once shared a house with an exotic dancer. She did pretty well for herself. All those singles add up. Of course, the fact that she didn't report about two thirds of her income may have had something to do with it as well. - phantasmagorica, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2No most strippers are on coke. OC/heroin doesn't make for a very up in your face dancey stripper.
- Schmapdi, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2When you have to write 10 headlines a day (or more) you'll happily take a cheesy headline that writes itself too.
- TheScogg, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1I'm not a big fan of pun threads, but I guess I'll just grin and bare.
- positron, on 03/22/2009, -1/+2Hope that if you ever find yourself in that position you aren't homophobic. As with the male porn business, a majority of male strip clubs are gay-oriented.
- andyb747, on 08/26/2009, -0/+1Next up on stage is .... your sister.
O_o - loggedout, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1Thanks. I'll let my friend know.
- Mtdewrulz, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1@ryebrye - Yeah, there are economist jobs (some of which can be obtained with an undergrad degree, and some require a masters or a doctorate in economics), and a lot of my classmates went into finance. I see economics as the root of any business degree. Management tells you the how where as economics tells you more of the why... add some basic social acuity and you can extrapolate the how.
@phanta - Nope... almost all OCs at my club... some heroin... never really saw much coke. It's actually funny how true a lot of stripper stereotypes are. There really are some of them who are there working their way through college... and some of them are just trying to make drug money (although the latter is actually far more common than the former). One time I was in the dressing room and a dancer was reading Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy... not even 10 feet away another one was laid out on the counter strung out on heroin. - inactive, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1How about sharped sex toys? "you make it stick, free drinks at the bar for a week"
- Schmapdi, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1Nobody would want me as a male stripper - but if need be I'd pretty happily work in a strip club otherwise as a bartender/waiter/whatnot. It can't be any worse than working at Walmart or Mcdonalds or some of the other less desirable options.
- leetninja, on 03/22/2009, -2/+3pics or it didnt happen ...
- IamNomad, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1at first i checked to see if this was a dailyfail article.. since it not .. this is awesome
I'de love to see some of these fired director hit the pool. - rayzor127, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1Anyone for "Legs & Eggs"????
Nothing beats starting your day at the Foxy. - IphtashuFitz, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1@screamokid - we brought a friend there for his bachelor party about 5 years ago and had an awesome time. There were plenty of hot women. I've also been to the Foxy Lady in Brockton (closer to where I live) numerous times and have never been disappointed. I'm willing to bet they'll continue to do well even in the current economy.
- screamokid, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1i live in RI, heck i drive by foxy lady everyday, and i can say more then 10.3% are attractive, we have brown and risd where all the rich kids go!
- Mtdewrulz, on 03/22/2009, -2/+3You'd be right if he only meant being a male stripper. There are plenty of positions for guys at female strip clubs. Bouncers/floor-hosts, barbacks, managers... sometimes even bartenders.
- TheUngod, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1My friend worked at this club for a while. The problem with RI is that they are "hands on" strip clubs. You have to be a special breed of girl to be willing to let sleazy men grope you for cash. My friend quit after about 3 weeks there. Your self respect is worth more than money.
- MtheoryX, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1I've been a truck driver. It's not nearly as much money as you think it is.
The lifestyle sucks, the health hazards are horrible (lack of sleep, lack of exercise, horrible food, demoralizing social interaction), and the pay is not even close to compensating any of that.
And that's if you're just a company driver. If you own the rig, you're really up ***** creek.
@ruarctb: Your impression that there is a larger demand is inaccurate.
The trucking industry cannibalizes itself too much. Companies appear desperate for drivers because other companies keep leeching their drivers away. It's really no different than the food service industry, really.
Whether its a good backup plan or not, I don't really know. But there are much more lucrative, and rewarding, jobs in the transportation industry than being a driver. - NoozeHound, on 03/24/2009, -0/+1Wow lucent comment. Nice post.
- Paranor01, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1Plug the hole... jackpot ? lol
- TheHerk, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1Very punny.
- Biscuitz, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1Have you ever been to a country club estate? Them ***** will pay to keep their houses clean, and their houses aren't going anywhere. Just an example.
- IHATEHIM, on 03/22/2009, -1/+1I live in providence, it sucks :(
