- inactive, on 10/18/2007, -2/+108This menu was clearly translated by the lolcats
- Boeing, on 10/18/2007, -0/+103I take it Babelfish-Mandarin is still in beta?
- plethorex, on 10/10/2007, -1/+78Their bitter, minimum wage, English translator has obviously won the day.
- FreakyD, on 10/18/2007, -7/+65Missing cream of sum yung gai
- rupprupp29, on 10/10/2007, -1/+46I'm glad the caption pointed out that I should read the ENGLISH part of the menu, because I was reading the other part and it wasn't very funny
- quaxon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37"The Black Cow Silk Fries The Idea Powder" sounds like some lame indie band.
- wittyname, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32Does anyone speak mistranslation?
- FadieZ, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24"Believe me you have not read anything like these"
Buried as inaccurate. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22At least he left us English speakers one clear choice at the bottom of the menu: "Western Fashion Fried Rice" is definitely what I would order :)
- The1DB, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18"Believe me you have not read anything like these.."
...Yes I have, and much funnier mistranslations at that! - izzybr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14It all sounds so delicious I wouldn't know what to get. Maybe the '***** to burn the of'
- horriblename, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11at the point in the menu where they have: "Meal egg soup/ The brisket gets the river powder" they made a mistake and conjoined the two entries. "Meal egg soup" is the one above that line and "The brisket gets the river powder" is the one below it. Everything after that entry corresponds to the line below.
What it looks like they did throughout the translation is just did a character by character lookup and substitution. So "Gan" the first character can colloquially mean "*****" but in this instance it actually just means "dried." There are certainly better translation systems.
Probably not fake due to the fact that most of the entries correspond to these direct dictionary lookups. - plhearn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"Yes I'll have the ***** the cow fry river please."
- n8r0n, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Who are you talking to?
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10You know, just because something is at the top of the page doesn't make it "diggs [sic] top story", right? That's chronological, with newer stories appearing on top. The 'top story' is at the right hand side, in the Top Ten.
- RetroRufio, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10The voices...
- goochie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11they will when you can get Chinese right.
- intense321, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This one is way better:
http://www.rahoi.com/2006/03/may-i-take-your-order ... - Nougat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I gotta get me some idea powder.
- ChayD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Why bother translating at all? It's about as meaningless as Chinese to a non-Chinese speaker. It looks like they just got the main ingredient, and plonked some random words either side of it. "Salt aardvark beef noodle bug-zapper paint slop"
- bossm4n, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10That's some of the best Engrish ever found.
- DteK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I dont know about you guys, but I dont just eat Slippery Chicken in Mushroom Gruel from any ol' place.
- qber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It seems they just skipped one of the Chinese items. But knowing Chinese, I can see where they got most of the translations. Mostly homophone confusions and characters that have different meanings depending on context.
- drakenlot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5How else would he take the picture?
Unless he has those spy cams implanted in your eyes I've been hearing about. - billbacon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5A chinese menu with prices in yen? hrmmmm...
- DteK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I prefer cream of sum dum ho myself
- ChayD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It's actually quite nice to have something positive and upbeat to look at once in a while rather than the usual righteous-indignation-inducing war-in-the-middle-east | anti/pro-bush | billions-squandered | blackwatergate | iphone | lack-of-a-pictures-section | seen-it-already forum in which we participate IMHO.
- qber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If you only know one of the two languages, yes.
Since you're asking this question, I'm guessing you don't know Chinese. If you try translating something from English to Chinese using only a dictionary, I doubt you'll do much better. - drakenlot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I should create that band just to say it exists.
- drakenlot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Moron, Engrish is mistranslations from Asian languages to English, which this qualifies under.

Go back to bed, you obviously left your brain there today. - SkippyDoorknob, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8DO NOT WANT
- jj9000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4What an ironic user name you have, contributor.
- aurrea, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Those are stupid
- DelSolid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Dont be a retard, just because the story is on the top of the front page means only that it is the most recent addition to the front page, not that it's the most important thing going on in the world. That is on the top right. Look there right now and see for yourself...
The top story currently is "The Next 25 Years of Video Games" http://digg.com/gaming_news/The_Next_25_Years_of_V ...
meh, so we are all geeks. If you want news go to the BBC. - mrjofo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4or a song by Fall Out Boy
- MainframeF4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Thats the perfect place to take my date tonight. "Yes she would like the slippery chicken and ill have a ***** to fry with a coke".
- navster15, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Keep making those tin foil hats and let me know when you have evidence about 9-11 being an inside job.
Dumbass. - uminatsu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Beware: no food or beverage while reading this. Choking hazard!
- Shakermaker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I wish there was a way to turn off the annoying comments in the picture...
- Kronos6948, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Exactly! Now Digg is not only the new Fark and 4chan, but now it's also Engrish.Com!
- Kitsune818, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Is it seriously that difficult to make a one to one relationship between chinese and english words?
- noumuon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2it's actually to bring the real part of the non trivial zeros of the riemann zeta function back to the unit... who knew? i didn't.
- passedoutghost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm so ronrey, so ronrey... maybe some of that ***** to fry the cow river will keep me company
- dickeywayne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Simple link straight to the image: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/12/69439278_4526be1 ...
- jimmypoops, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I've been looking everywhere for some of that frog gruel...
- Snyz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I found "Explodes the large intestine" in the first picture amusing.
- rouslan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Another very funny menu (but it's Russian): http://englishrussia.com/?p=1529
“Min. voter “Akva” in ass.”
"Zhevatalinaya Rubber"
"The icecream in ass." - abandonedhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually, if you read the article you posted, Chinglish is listed in there as well.
- zwaldowski, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1To Reddit I go!
- drakenlot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Because through a very complex mathematic equation involving imaginary numbers and random pounding on a keyboard, it deems what you said is so good it has to be told twice, duh.
