- Hello1024, on 05/19/2009, -2/+651I'll share:
Notice that there are actually lots of "faulty" characters here. They are all out by 8 places. For example the "a" in "Wandows" should be an "i", and i is 8 letters later than a. The same applies to the "$" sign - it's 8 letters away from a comma. - lets call this data distorsion.
This constant shift of 8 is harder to locate, but is almost certainly a hardware problem (and therefore not windows' fault). Assuming the data is correct on the hard disk, then somehow the data has been distorted somewhere on the way to the screen. Since the screen is displaying at all, that implies the bootloader has loaded, therefore this data distorsion isn't happening to instructions, therefore it is unlikley to be caused by anything that also handles instructions, such as the hard disk, ide cable, ide\sata controller, the southbidge to the cpu, the cpu cache, or anything in the memory path. Since the distortion is a shift of 8, thats a constant bit error (2^3=8, bit 3 is faulty), which indicates the error is in a parallel data bus, register or memory.
For those reasons, I'm guessing the error is either between the southbridge and the gfx card, or within the graphics card itself. The most likley cause would be an error on a data bus, which would often be caused by a loose edge connector on the graphics card, or a bent or damaged pin on a surface mount chip.
If you're feeling enthusastic, a quick test would be to make a little program to run on the bare hardware to output a constant stream of a certain character and then fiddle around inside the computer while it's powered on (eg. pressing chips down). By watching the screen you should be able to figure out which component is faulty.
One such program would be:
mov ah, 0xA
mov al, 'A'
loop:
int 10
jmp loop
This program needs to be compiled and run with no OS under it. for this you could write it to the first sector of a usb stick/floppy disk with dd, and then boot from it. Rememeber you need the 55AA at the end of the sector for the bios to run it. - deeboe, on 05/19/2009, -4/+574Something might be wrong with that PC. I suggest you try to trouble shoot it by starting it in "Safe Mode wath Fetwgrkifg".

- topstorynz, on 05/18/2009, -8/+125At least they acknowledge the 'madly' part...
- serif69, on 05/19/2009, -3/+117How is Wandows botted?
- phasm42, on 05/19/2009, -0/+110Bit 4 is being cleared every two characters on your screen. Starting from the top left, two characters in a row will have bit 4 cleared, then two characters will be left alone, then repeat. Clearing bit 4 will change 0x71 'q' to 0x61 'a', 0x53 'S' to 0x43 'C', etc.
The clear 2/leave 2 pattern is why the 'p' in apologize was changed to a back-tick, but the 'z' was left alone. - steakum, on 05/19/2009, -1/+108So this is what happens when you go to finallyfast.com.
"My computer is fast. Finally. Finallyfast.com [cheesy smile into the camera]."
Hate those commercials. - DeadlyNinja, on 05/19/2009, -2/+106How is Wandows formed?

- MMaster23, on 05/19/2009, -0/+94Actually no .. if your MBR was broken, you would never get to that screen.
Dunno why people are digging you up. Goes to show how much people really know about Windows and it's loading stages :)

- jpmonkeycat, on 05/19/2009, -0/+87I'd like to see tech support ask this guy if he tried restarting the computer.
- djnforce9, on 05/19/2009, -2/+84Very nice explanation. I agree with you in that this is NOT just a massive bunch of typos left by Microsoft's developers. I can also see why this only affects the path between the video card and the screen or else who knows what instructions would get messed up as various software loads. However, I never thought ASCII characters displaying could be affected by loose pins. Typically with the GPU, a loose cable/pin usually ends up with primary colours being dropped (typically red and green). Also, it's weird how it only affects SOME characters. In "Wandows Ngrmadly", only the I,O, and L are displaced. I would think that such a hardware fault would affect ALL characters leaving an illegible garbled mess. Another check could be to see whether the typos are different every time. THAT would definitely indicate whether something is loose.
Other than hardware, the only other possibility I can think of is that someone hacked the boot screen in order to take a cheap jab at Microsoft. - papastout, on 05/19/2009, -3/+83shigt th^gat's funvn{y

- phasm42, on 05/19/2009, -2/+59It's not from the MBR, and not even from the partition boot sector. It's from NTLDR.
- buenit, on 05/19/2009, -0/+56Ha, I like yours better than the actual submission. Windows Cafe Mode would be sweet.

- aphex, on 05/19/2009, -1/+53Isn't this just the Welsh version of windows?
- simplyintricate, on 05/19/2009, -0/+52Yup, you're right. For those interested in what he's talking about, feel free to check out the ASCII table:
http://www.asciitable.com/
Take a letter from the pictures above that seems incorrect, find its decimal value and convert it to binary. Go to the 5th position from the right and flip it to a one and then reconvert to decimal. Use that decimal to look it up in the ascii table and you'll see the correct letter..
Good job - ayeroxor, on 05/19/2009, -15/+64Macs: When you absolutely have to have the fanciest, trendiest etch-a-sketch in your class.
