- UnicornNinja, on 10/10/2007, -9/+239Watch out for crooked penis's, breasts, and upside down French horns
- 10goto10, on 10/10/2007, -3/+129I wish I was hung like the deer 5 KM ahead
- thoughtudied999, on 10/10/2007, -8/+87For the sweet love of god, Kevin. We need a picture section. You delivered with the video section, now give us a picture section.
- mklopez, on 10/10/2007, -8/+84Dugg for the great post title :)
- JasonCox, on 10/10/2007, -2/+58Dugg because I'm sober and have a hard time understanding it.
- techmaster, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40I think the upside-down french horn sign means "Beware, Ricola commercial being filmed up ahead."
- selfdisplaced, on 10/10/2007, -5/+37Why? So people can just ignore the "Pictures" section like they currently do the "Videos" section?
- alSamad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28I think I would have an accident attempting to read/make sense of those while driving. They should add a warning sign to warn drivers about the abundance of warning signs ahead.
- Cloud7654, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27Clearly it's "Watch out for yodelers riding deer while on the snowy, crooked, bumpy road."
- MiltonWaddams, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24To me it looked like the deer was humping a small dog or something.
- NewClassic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Taking a serious guess, right to left.
Road turns sharply, my slide when wet. Snow and Rain hazard.
Speed Bumps, roadsides will have the small ditch.
Your horn is sexy. Use it if you're in trouble.
Lanes narrow, proceed with caution. Deer crossing, huge penis, 5 KM.
... Yeah, something like that? - mooatr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I was hoping that french horn one was a loop-the-loop.
- thoughtudied999, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Kind of, but no. So pictures don't flood the front page. Yeah, we all want to see pictures every now and then, but it gets annoying when 7/10 of the stories on the front page are pictures. It would be nice if they were all located in a central place.
- Saad85, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14so is the thing you call a deer, and all the other ***** too.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14***** me, I'm not driving down there.
- vsaint, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15I didn't even know Italy had traffic laws...
- skylights, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Actually, I wish Kevin would re-integrate the videos in with the rest of the content.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Yes. A small dog with a giant penis.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Everyone, listen:
THIS ISN'T A PHOTOSHOP.
BUT, this picture was used in a photoshop contest. In the photoshop contest, somebody put funny things onto the signs. - MacGyver2210, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9It means you should read the comments where the meaning is discussed pretty thoroughly.
- makis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10it's an old sign that means you have to give buses the right of way while on mountain roads... it's not valid anymore
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segnaletica_verticale:_segnali_di_prescrizione - Downtime, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Drunk Translation: Watch out for big hips, rabid deer, the Tuscan Band Camp, topless women, Counter-Strike players making orders, cars in ditches, huge snakes, and S-shaped skid marks. Oh, the usual rain and snow too.
- DSSurge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9The sign that looks like a horn actually indicates a Hot Wheels flip and ramp.
Crazy Italians... - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8The signs themselves aren't fake.
What is written in the signs on your picture is fake.
*****, can nobody read? - DarcSeraphim, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10It actually means, from right to left:
Warning: Double Curve (left-right)
Warning: Slippery Road
Slippery When Wet
Possible Ice Formation
Warning: Uneven Road
Warning: Other Dangers (bit vague...)
Use Horn (to notify other drivers)
Warning: Road Narrows
(Proceed with Caution)
Warning: Wild Animals Crossing
(For the next 5km) - crawf061, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8in a central place away from actual news
- thoughtudied999, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Doesn't look like a fake to me. I bet it has something to with your car horn. Maybe one our Italian peers can enlighten us?
Here's a similar sign.
http://www.slowtrav.com/images/italy/driving/road_sign05.jpg - logic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I'm not, and trust me; It doesn't.
- *jooloop*, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I liked the exploding car sign.
- bigdoug2005, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Well according to this http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/road_signs/road_signs_cr2.htm the crossed out horn means no honking
- MacGyver2210, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6From what I saw when I went there a while back, they might as well not have them. A VW bus full of chinese tourists backed up from the tollbooth in front of us and locked bumpers together with us, so we had to sit on the side of the highway, just outside Tuscany, waiting for a towtruck/replacement rental car. Not once did a police car or police officer ever even come near us, but they were passing by us or stopping to talk to toll operators all day.
I remember some of these signs from Bellagio - a little town on the side of a mountain along Lake Como. The falling rocks signs were just priceless, they showed a pedestrian and a dog getting smushed by a huge boulder. - MacGyver2210, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Put there to look like the deer has a huge schlong....
- WaterDragon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Somebody left a bra lying in the road...so watch out for a topless lady.
- ryodoan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7If he doesnt the deer is more than happy to oblige
- MacGyver2210, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Or not...these are 100% genuine italian road signs.
- Fracture98, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6...and sure. Why not? If I want to ignore pictures, more power to me. If you don't; control the overwhelming urge to clear that particular checkbox.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6whats with the hating on the french horn?
"Warning french horns maybe played randomly for the next 5km" - NiX0n, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5According to Google's translation,
"It obligates to give precedence to the line courier on the mountain roads. Today more not contemplated from the Rule of the Road."
http://tinyurl.com/34t6eu - MacGyver2210, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6the paint ran down in a patter strikingly similar to legs. I guess the deer is so well hung even his wang has feet.
- MellerTime, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Here here! I noticed the exact same thing about the front page being 90% (ok, just 70%) pictures. I've enjoyed them, but I would prefer that they not totally overwhelm actual news.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Is this where they hold the world record attempts for driving haphazardly around bends and over bumps whilst trying to avoid deer, in the pouring rain and snow whilst playing a French horn?
- ryodoan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6maybe if you were not sober it would make more sense?
- misconstrued, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, seconded.
- bbardlbradd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Yeah, the "French Horn" isn't a french horn. It's the "all seeing eye" (like on the back of your dollar bills). I think all of it together means something... I'm figuring it out...
- WaterDragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That deer is definitely fake. It is made of paint on a piece of metal.
- MacGyver2210, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4According to a google-translated description on it.wikipedia it means you need to yield to mountaineers(sheep/goat herders) in the road.
- makis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4the ! sign means pay attention
the horn in that sign it's not in use anymore.it's not the no honking sign... this is no honking
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immagine:Italian_traffic_signs_-_divieto_di_segnalazioni_acustiche.svg
and this is the one in the picture
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immagine:Italian_traffic_signs_-_old_-_dare_precedenza_alle_corriere.svg - Breepee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Definitly not. Italy is known for it roadsign-plenty. I go there often and this is very typical.
- mattledger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Dugg for submitter not describing pic as "craziest picture you'll see all day" or similar
- holocron79, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2some of the roads have incredibly tight turns and large vehicles like buses will honk letting you know they are coming around the bend. It's telling the driver to yield when you hear a horn. Some places they also have mirrors on bends like this.
