- OBDriftwood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+44The dude was so high he probably just floated over the fence.
- Xyleene, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23^ How about a headline that is somewhat representative of the content... Wouldn't have made front page if it was i guess..

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13If a drugged out sleep walker can scale the security fence then that doesn't leave much hope for the fence stopping terrorist.

I bet when he submitted the article 33 hours ago it said that the man was sleeping. Piss poor journalism in the way it was retracted though..
"Earlier reports that Wester, 32, was found asleep on the plane were erroneous, Hamlin said."

- rivercityjessie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11This article says that "Earlier reports that Wester, 32, was found asleep on the plane were erroneous"
He wasn't asleep, just drugged up.
(The article was update though, probably after this was posted) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hey, the TSA only provides the *illusion* of security, not the actual thing.
Mind you, they still want to confiscate liquids. After all, if they didn't inconvenience people in stupid and nonsensical ways, no one would know all the great work they were doing protecting us from Osama bin Laden. - Skurt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8$7 food voucher at an airport, what's that a small coke?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11sockpuppets this is Digg. Do you expect people to RTFA? :
- sylentmode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Um......once again RTFA, nobody was asleep the title is wrong. The guy scalled a barbed wire fence....you dont see a problem?..... God I hope the pilot wouldn't have to do that.
- pardonmedoug, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41200 per year, give or take.
I know because I've been researching a dissertation on exactly this topic for the past eight months. The general public would be astounded to know just how common this phenomenon is. The most frequent intoxicants are Phenobarbital and Dimethyltryptamine. One common precipitating factor is that sedated fence-climbing individuals (SFCIs) commonly misplace personal items such as their keys, cell phones, or drug paraphernelia. One septugenarian SFCI was found in a plane bathroom, digging through the waste disposal receptacle, looking for his dentures! LOL! Generally speaking, SFCIs aren't to be feared, as violent outbursts are estimated at a rate of only about 1 in 6, and even then they are usually so uncoordinated as to be easily brought under control by a swift kick to the neck. - Pause, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4id want more than just a $7 meal voucher for waiting 2 hours. id be after the head of that jackass.
- bobbknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Inaccurate Headline no digg.
- mhearne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If by security you mean "Chicken Little", "The Keystone Cops", and "The Three Stooges", then yes, the TSA is right on top of things. They were probably too busy searching passengers for bobby-pins and the like, to notice someone coming in the back gate.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Pooh on your research. My postdoctoral studies show that there are only about 1100 SFCIs per annum, and that most can be confused with a simple Vulcan nerve pinch. I'll be presenting my findings at the Paris conference in February.
- 3rdcoast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I say the new funds for airport security are paying off.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've flown a lot, $7 will usually buy you a hot dog and a small coke.
- Shriker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah... for a four hour delay last year during Christmas, I got a $10 food voucher, plus a $350 voucher for another flight (even though my flight was only delayed, not cancelled). WestJet is pretty awesome. :]
- childprey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Safety first kids
- dakboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OK, so this guy gets charged for doing it. What about everyone who lapsed and allowed it to happen? Airport security, aircraft maintenance people who may have seen him, etc.?
- Goner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why didn't they just fly the junkie to the next city and leave it at that.. any ideas on how many crazy junkies catch planes this way?
- elliam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Article text:
A Delta Airlines flight from the Triangle to Cincinnati was canceled this morning after a man scaled a security fence and got onto the plane overnight.
Gregory S. Wester of Fuquay-Varina apparently boarded the Boeing 737 and calmly sat down while a cleaning crew was working on the plane about 3:30 a.m., said Mindy Hamlin, spokeswoman for Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Wester had topped a 7-foot barbed-wire fence to gain access to the tarmac at Terminal A.
Earlier reports that Wester, 32, was found asleep on the plane were erroneous, Hamlin said.
RDU police charged Wester with first-degree trespassing and illegally possessing a prescription drug. He also faces a federal charge of gaining access to an aircraft without permission.
Delta Flight 717 was scheduled to leave at 6:35 a.m. Passengers boarded the plane about 7 a.m. and sat for two hours before the flight was canceled.
During the wait, the captain told the 123 passengers that there had been some sort of security breach and that the crew intended to take off after completing some paperwork. Instead, passengers were each given $7 food vouchers and booked on other flights.
Wester was still disoriented when investigators interviewed him, Hamlin said. At no time did he threaten anyone or harm any equipment, she said. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Buried because of the completely innacurate title
"Earlier reports that Wester, 32, was found asleep on the plane were erroneous, Hamlin said." - calebhawk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1as long as it wasnt the pilot i dont see the problem...
- stlcadet11, on 10/12/2007, -24/+9Aren't there people who are supposed to clean the plane out?
I mean I was under that impression, just with the amount of complete ***** people leave behind on planes...

What is Digg?
