- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33I always wanted to steal *****, but didn't know how. This is just the turning point for a successful new career!
/sarcasm - Recuso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32Uh, that's standard procedure when they get linked from high-traffic sites. It's because every single time (yes EVERY time) they are sabotaged with. Usually it's by ***** editing the article and placing the text: "LOL I AM AWESOME HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMG LOOK," or something to that effect.
- dyvbond, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Woah...quite detailed...
then again, that's what the internet is for, stealing and pr0n!..mostly the latter - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Booster boxes (bag)
"Typically professional shoplifters of large girth most commonly attempt this scam."
You mean fat. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I hate when i waste my time when I read stupid comments
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Giftcard cloning looks very interesting. Never thought of something like that.
- Pignanelli, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Prawn are quite commonly stolen, because they are small and expensive.
- Xinareiaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Not the first time.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12My all time fav when I worked at BB was the guy in the over sized coat who tried to steal a 19 inch plasma we had on display, he tried to put it under his coat and hold it with one arm pressed to his side, the power cable was dragging behind him as he walked around. After a bout 5 blue shirts were following him he figured out what was going on and went into the bathroom and put it in the toilet and ran full speed right out the front door and into the cops that had just pulled up.....
Then he tried to say we set him up by not having a security cable on it. - Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"i hope nobody takes this off"
If someone does, you can use the archived copy...

It won't change from vandalism, reverts, or anything like that.
Unless an admin takes out the history, but that's quite rare. - sphykik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Rope and fenceline
In large retail stores such as Home Depots and Walmarts that have Garden areas where there is no ceiling, two shoplifters will attempt to steal merchandise. One shoplifter will wait outside, while the shoplifter inside will take a cart full of merchandise (such as drills or sawblades) to the garden center. The shoplifter inside will then tie the merchandise to the rope, and throw the rope over the fenceline, and the customer waiting on the other side will untie it and take it.

I would have thought Target would offer basic training in these techniques to their staff. - archlich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11If one really wants to steal something, there are other guides than wikipedia, not to mention a plethora of books.
- quanta88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11When in university, students would always pull the "milkshake subterfuge" in the self-serve cafeteria - i.e. sink chocolate bars or plastic wrapped items in their fountain drinks, even soup or chili. Never knew there was an actually TERM for that.
- mrsexzzmaleman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10That's my favorite too, I've never heard of that, much less seen it done but I think it'd be amusing.
- BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9This is ironic as my younger sister was arrested for shoplifting yesterday.
- loquedesea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"If questioned they say they are wheeling the shopping into the car park for a disabled custoPENISmer."
... am i reading that right??? - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is pretty easy to do at walmart. Just go when they're busy. Hell I know people that returned stuff to walmart that they didn't even buy there. And got cash.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11That "left handed" thing is the goddamn reason the cashiers at stores always try and charge me for things im holding anyways (like a pepsi thats half empty.)
Also, stealing is lame. It's not worth getting caught, just pay the 99 cents for a chocolate bar like everyone else. - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I don't know what they did after he ran into the cops because my manager told me to get my ass back to my department. The sales manager said that the cops stopped him to find out what the hell was going on, and he just started yelling that.
- scottelloco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's nice to see this wikipedia article.
The more people know how to protect themselves from crime the less people need the police. - JayOKC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9As a Loss Prevention Specialist for Target, this is a really useful resource! :) Dugg.
- greekgoat91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6fake returns, ace. you gotta find a young cashier though.
- amplifiedshock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Fake returns
Sometimes shoplifters will actually gather an item from the selling floor and try to receive money for it without a receipt at the return station. Although this method is not as fool proof as the receipt matching method, it is very effective particularly when done to an inexperienced cashier. Usually the shoplifter will start complaining to the cashier about their inability to return the merchandise. Typically the penis will go limp and the butter will have to be returned for a refund. To avoid confrontation the cashier will ring up the return and give the shoplifter the value of the merchandise. "
Check out the second last sentence. O_o - DreamTheater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have a Family,. I Manage a store... if shrink aka stolens are bad I lose my Job.
I wish people would think how this stuff affects other people... - meepus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5And that policy is actually being pulled at the end of this month.
- jbrassard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5To follow up to my last comment:
He says the reason why he's never been caught and has got away with so much in merchandise is the following precautions and tricks he does.
1) Never steal without buying at least 1 item.
2) If having to pocket an item,do it in the grocery section. Not in an electronics/make-up section. Those are where the Theft preventors look first.
3)Where nice clothes and look like you at least have a decent job. He says you'd be surprised the difference it will make when you look nice to looking like a typical thief.
4) Make friends with the door people over time. Even saying "Hi,how are you doing today" over time will build up a relationship that can help in times when an alarm goes off.It also eases suspicion.
5) Don't ever look around to much. It draws attention to yourself and will kill your cover.
6) Look for your Theft prevention guards and get familiar with they're patterns. Spotting one will give you the "Go ahead" or the "don't pass GO and collect $200 item".
7) If possible, try to carry the amount of money for the item your stealing. If worse comes to worse you can buy it and return it and try again another day.
8) Don't be obvious at all. Think that you should have this item as you would with anything you'd normally buy. - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I've seen the double cart scam performed in a local tesco's about 2/3 weeks ago. Its a very very good, and rather smart scam. £150 worth of stuff (food, dvd's, cd's ect) they managed to get away with!
Still a bunch of thieving git's though, and if theres one thing i hate more then a liar, its a thief.
They also missed out the False alarm scam.
Grab something with a tag on it, put it into someone elses bag, and wait for them to walk out. Soon as the alarm goes off you walk out with whatever it is you've nicked without getting stopped. - dosterm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This comment needs some serious editing too.
- jbrassard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5One of my friends might be the Yoda of shoplifting. The main technique he uses is the "Be natural" way. He brings in a few dollars (most of the time, enough to match the items price in case things go wrong) and he brings in a receipt (of any old purchase). He grabs the item and walks towards the front on the opposite side of the store while walking on the other side of the registers(the side customer serv/returns/restrooms) while looking at the receipt and counting his cash. It really looks as if he just bought it. Other times he grabs an item with his receipt in hand and heads for the returns desk. He does this when there's a line and waits about 5 Min's to brush off any suspicion from anyone watching (looks like its an item exchange) and then leaves with the item while again looking at his receipt while he passes the door greeter. When he looks at the receipt it looks as if hes checking it like anyone else does normally.
Another method that has got him some serious merchandise is the "buy on get one free". Now don't be mislead by the description. What he does is goes to a wal-mart or and grocery/everything else store. Then he grabs an item that he wants that usually has a security device enclosed and places it in a bag(wal-mart bag) and puts it in the top of the cart, usually under a jacket. Then he proceeds to buy his groceries. Just before he leaves,he goes to the clearance/budget DVD bin and grabs a DVD of a cheap value. When he pays pays for his groceries at self-check out,he includes the DVD in the purchase but doesn't deactivate the DVDs security device. As he leaves the alarm goes off and he shows them the DVD and sure enough they fall for it being the reason all along never knowing that hes stealing an external DVD burner under his jacket in the cart. - quandrum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Two things....
Customers are a lot more savvy about this scam this Christmas. I work in the largest independent US bookstore and they regularly ask for gift cards that have never been displayed on the sales floor.
Also, this has become a lot more easier and profitably in the age of the internet. A lot of gift cards can be used on the internet, with only the number. Hence, no card reader, the the increase of scratch off numbers on cards. - friend18, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I've actually heard of that except without a rope. Just throwing stuff over the fence.
- wmtrader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Everyone can steal and get a way with it, it just a mater of opportunity and luck.
Everyone will eventually get caught when stealing, the more you do it the sooner you'll get caught. - stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Have done that 4 or 5 times myself. Always scampered back in and paid for it, and no-one was ever the wiser. Never occurred to me to just keep going.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yes
you are - friend18, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This entry needs some serious editing. It's very poorly written. I wonder why.. :/
Very simple to do, simply get about two weeks worth..
very simple to do... :/
the tv person should be outside waiting for the grocerie cart at the getaway vehicle. quickly load up and get the hell out. (works best with lcd tv's under 32")
No capitalizations - pgup, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5This will not end well...
- kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Walkout Technique is probably the best one. The best shoplifters are complete naturals. Their behavior doesn't signal anything that sets off alarm bells in your mind.
One day I was with the SO at a pretty fancy shoe store in a local mall. A pair of shoes was picked up and casually walked out with because we were talking about something. When we'd gotten near the parking garage I mentioned that we hadn't paid for the shoes.
Interestingly we brought them back in and nobody even asked. - t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd just come up behind him with a long extension cable, and plug the TV in as it's under his coat :)
- bighed213, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I know a few people that work at Wal-Mart. They found out that it costs a lot more money to prosecute petty shoplifters than it saved them. So now, the policy is if you get caught stealing something under 25 dollars, they let you go the first time. Their main problem with shrink actually comes from employee theft, and not shoplifting.
- sardion2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I just added it. I just did a cut and paste of your descript though, hope u don't mind.
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Walmart doesnt have a family. And get insurance.
- wmtrader, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Just know that if you are caught stealing anything worth $300 or more in the State of California you will be charged with a felony and if you are caught once for a misdemeanor shoplifting charge and then caught a second time the second charge will be a felony, so if you are older than 18 years of age and in California set your shoplifting target low.
You should also know that the store’s undercover security want to catch you so bad that they will go way out of their way to make it happen, even if it didn’t happen, just for the high they get from the catch.
I’ve noticed that when I walk about to much in Wal*Mart looking for stuff the alarm at the door always goes off, despite the fact that I never have anything with an RFID. - deanlowe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's a bad idea because you don't know what might be on the wrappers. Unless you plan on trashing the drink.
