- PhoenixTx, on 01/20/2009, -24/+105Reminds me of middle eastern mob mentality.
- zacharytelschow, on 01/20/2009, -30/+97This entire thing has an odd feel. Brainwashed masses cheering for their supposed savior. Effigies of Bush having shoes thrown at them in the streets. I'm too young for proper historical perspective, but this all just feels so... wrong.
- kigcoopa84, on 01/20/2009, -21/+86Classy, very classy.
- WhatBubbaKnows, on 01/20/2009, -9/+55That is no coincidence.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -34/+77I'm older than most of you by having voted for 45+ years and I have to tell you that I have NEVER seen anything like the disrespect so many people have shown towards President Bush.
In fact, I have never seen so much disrespect from the liberals towards anyone who does not agree with them. Throwing shoes seems to be some kind of deranged mentality and perhaps will begin a new era where more people take to the streets, leave their shoes on and throw rocks at each other.
One think I love about the true Southern people, most do show respect for each other and that especially is revealed when younger people greet older citizens.
The fox is definitely guarding the hen house.... - CaptCarrot, on 01/20/2009, -4/+36And it wasn't even San Diego!
- kigcoopa84, on 01/20/2009, -8/+40greenvortex do you have trouble getting water? food? do you live on the street?
- kigcoopa84, on 01/20/2009, -16/+43 Even though I didn't vote for Obama, I do pray he can fulfill the expectations his supporters have for him. He is going to have a very very tough presidency that will most likely be complicated by an unforeseen event in the near future. It will be interesting to see if he is forgiven for breaking all those campaign promises he made that will be imposable to fill because of our current economic state, but now that i think about I have not heard anything about universal health care since the debates. Good luck Mr. President, you have my support at a job I would never want.
- THETEH, on 01/20/2009, -15/+42Jesus guys, what's with all the hateful comments? You're referring to the shoe tossers as "vile bastards" and you're implying that the people who threw the shoes were somehow anti-American. Don't you people realize that the shoe-tossing is what America is really ABOUT? It's about freely expressing your opinion in a nonviolent (and in this case creative and hilarious) way. Have you commenters not noticed what happened over the last eight years? The war? The economy? This shoe throwing is a way for the American people to express their distaste for a horrendous president. If I had been there, I would have gladly sacrificed both of my shoes to throw at the bush effigy. Long live free speech.
- PhoenixTx, on 01/20/2009, -18/+42The inmates are now running the asylum.
- PhoenixTx, on 01/20/2009, -17/+39I don't wish him any ill will but I don't want him to make this country any more socialist than it already is.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -26/+45This is really disgusting, but it's another example of adults acting like children and employing "child logic", which is nothing more than unsophisticated emotionalism. It'd be interesting to see some of the participants react to an effigy of themselves being burned at the center of a ring of vitriol-spewing idiots. And don't anyone give me a line about Bush causing such a reaction: such behavior already had the seeds sown long before the former President came on the scene.
- zacharytelschow, on 01/20/2009, -11/+30Good to hear someone with a bit more life experience feels that same way.
- PhoenixTx, on 01/20/2009, -10/+28@zacharytelschow
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. There's a whole bunch of us who feel like this. =^) - Harvester1, on 01/20/2009, -14/+32Having even more life experience than PhoenixTx (thank you SO much for phrasing it that way, dear and diplomatic one), I want you to know that you are right, and so is he. This IS wrong. Not only in poor taste, but it is behavior that decent people shouldn't be involved in, whatever side they are on.
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -11/+29Yup!
- Starlach, on 01/21/2009, -16/+33When did digg get taken over by NeoCons? Did I miss the memo? Political expression is protected speech and rightfully so. It doesn't matter if you lean to the right or the left we must come together and never let another abuse of power like this to happen ever again.
People this is a WAR PROFITEER / WAR CRIMINAL who tried to undermine our civil rights, due process of law, our precious system of checks and balances, the constitution etc etc etc..
He deserves MUCH worse then some shoes thrown at an effigy.
He and all the people who helped him should stand trial before the Hague.
And finally, GOOD RIDDANCE! - DangerCollie, on 01/21/2009, -13/+30Bush doesn't deserve any respect. He's the most corrupt, incompetent to ever hold public office. You should be glad the mob didn't burn him at the stake instead of just throwing shoes at an effigy.
He diminished the office of the president and the rest of the country along with it. He got 4,200 of our troops killed on a LIE. 4,200 broken families, a legion of widows and orphans, a 1/2 million dead Iraqis, tens of thousands more on both sides maimed and wounded...not a word about that, but you're going to yap about people throwing shoes at a blow up doll? You disgust me. And you deserved to lose. That ain't the last of it, either. We're going to keep stuffing defeat into your soggy right wing hide until you look like that balloon. Choke on it. - Harvester1, on 01/20/2009, -15/+31You're right. There is a lack of decorum and civility about this that does seem almost deranged. Those who speak of Bush Derangement Syndrome aren't far off the mark.
- Palquito, on 01/21/2009, -9/+25They're angry. I may think it's a little classless, but I understand their sentiment. They're angry at an administration that has spit on them for 8 long years, called them "unpatriotic" and "traitors" because they didn't support that disaster in Iraq. They're angry at a president that trampled on their constitution and their civil rights, only obeying the laws that he wanted to. They're angry at a man who deregulated the financial system to the point of disaster, causing us all to lose (check your 401k lately?). They're angry at the President that appointed talentless party hacks to important government positions, leading to disaster in Iraq and New Orleans. They're angry, because George W. Bush very likely committed real, substantial, provable crimes, and he is going to get away with it, living comfortably for the rest of his life while we're all left to pick up the pieces of the country he has done so much to harm. So yeah, they're angry. Why aren't you? If you've been living with your eyes closed for the last decade, it's time to open them.
- gadgetlust, on 01/21/2009, -5/+20You don't even know why you're so scared of socialism, do you?
Cold war's over, folks. Learn to play nice. - ftx437, on 01/20/2009, -26/+40That's sick and disgusting...God forbid we do something like that against Obama, there would be such hell to pay. But then again the utter lack of respect that people have is gone way past insane now..Not sure if any one watched..but as it ended people were just walking all over flags that had been tossed around, more disrespect...
- zacharytelschow, on 01/20/2009, -5/+19Great movie, but you're a bit off the mark.
We're not saying those people shouldn't have the right to say/do those things, we're saying they should show the self-restraint to not do them as its disrespectful and childish behavior that certainly won't be returned in kind.
Similarly, I would be completely within my rights to throw shoes at an effigy of Obama in Washington DC today. Do you think such actions would be met peacefully as the Bush effigy/shoe incident was? - inactive, on 01/20/2009, -31/+44I'm not surprised. This country is going to hell in a hand basket. People have no respect for anyone or anything, social grace or decorum has been replaced by 'the me show'. I'm going to do what I want, when I want, regardless if it's in poor taste, because I want to do it. Btw- I hope they're the first ones to be selling pencils on the street corner (jk, maybe ;-).
- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -0/+13Dude Pinocchio.....when he lies his nose gets longer......man you need a trip to Disneyland.
- thoughtsonthis, on 01/20/2009, -20/+32These are the ignorant people in America. They know nothing about politics, but what they hear from the MSM. They are nothing but followers and couldn't put together a two sentence piece on why they hate George Bush. They can only say that he started a war.
This is the future of America. God help us! - THETEH, on 01/20/2009, -10/+21These are people freely exercising their right to protest against a president who they feel has let them down. There's nothing disrespectful about it. It's called America, which is supposed to be a country where people are free to protest against whatever or whoever they choose to.
- GlobalRoamer, on 01/20/2009, -7/+18@dbldn,
Please don't play dumb.
The same Democrats who complain when Obama was hung in effigy, are the same ones who applaud doing this to a likeness of President George Bush. - waydee, on 01/21/2009, -12/+23This is hilarious, comments from the American right always make great reading but when they come together like they seem to have done here it's just gold.
Why should you show respect to a man who is responsible for the deaths of so many? A man who has ruined an economy, ruined a reputation, lied to you and completely abused his position? Why does that deserve unconditional respect? ***** George Bush, a politician like him deserves nothing but a life sentence. - neonoodle, on 01/21/2009, -8/+18this thread has been hijacked by the neocons.
- CaptCarrot, on 01/20/2009, -5/+15While it's highly unlikely that the DNC organized, let alone sanctioned, the event, it's not that large a leap to assume that, given the blue-ness of Delaware and the incoming crowds for a Democrat inauguration, that the participants were -- predominantly, at least -- Democrat. Once you get past Rupublican, Democrat, Libertarian, and Green, I doubt any of the remaining splinter factions could muster up a crowd of this size.
- CaptCarrot, on 01/20/2009, -6/+15I find your ideas intriguing and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
But seriously, shout to your circle and bring their opinions to bear in this discussion. Make it less of a GOP rally, and we'll have some real fun... er... debate. - inactive, on 01/20/2009, -25/+34That's it? Tossing shoes at a blow-up doll of Bush?
Bush deserves a LOT worse, he deserved to be impeached, and still deserves to go to prison for his many gross violations of the Constitution, for being a traitor to America, selling us out to globalists, for revoking many of our rights in exchange for dictatorial executive power, for refusing to secure our borders even 7 years after 9-11, for refusing to address the problem of this illegal foreign invasion into our country. I voted for this man twice as the lesser of two evils, but I'm not blind and braindead enough to admit what a worthless traitor Bush is. Apparently, from the look of most of the comments on this page, most Republicans still haven't woken up. - Hibno, on 01/21/2009, -4/+13Capitalism isn't what has made this country strong. Abundant natural resources have made this country strong. A hard-working population had made this country strong. Our position between two oceans with no major enemies breathing down our borders have made this strong. The displacement of native people and the exploitation of certain groups have made this country strong. Defeating fascism and communism have made this country strong.
Many things have worked together to make this country strong; don't give too much credit where it isn't due. Technological innovations spurred from competition only plays a small part in the bigger picture. And I don't know why you apparently think that innovation wouldn't be possible under a more socialistic government. More socialist countries than ours, like Germany, Japan, Denmark, and France, are certainly not at a loss for innovation. In fact larger government has proven to be beneficial for business. For example, when government takes on the burden of healthcare it actually saves large companies money, even though their taxes go up to support it. It also helps small businesses who can't afford to pay benefits to their employees. Not that American is even becoming socialist, but some aspects of the system would certainly be advantageous. This mentality that socialism=slavery and capitalism=freedom is naive and fearful. - Janinco, on 01/20/2009, -13/+22You would also be arrested for committing a hate crime!
- CaptCarrot, on 01/20/2009, -7/+16But it's a new day, and everything is optimistic! The DOW optimistically fell 300+ points! Gas optimistically shot up 15 cents after lunch! Hope! Change! Yes we can!
- Betrayal, on 01/21/2009, -12/+21This is way too nice for Bush.
I don't understand all the hypocritical comments on here. This guy needs impeachment and imprisonment ASAP along with his other buddies. - PhoenixTx, on 01/20/2009, -9/+18What a bunch of mindless banter.
- CaptCarrot, on 01/20/2009, -2/+10Let me play with the "throwing shoes and kicking a plastic inflatable is freedom of speech at its finest" paradigm. Ostensibly, because it's an inanimate object that takes the actual wrath in place of a person, then the entire thing is more of a 'venting' for people's frustrations, people who feel justified in communicating such speech.
And I'll agree with that, 100%. Nothing 'wrong' with what they did, other than how 'wrong' it seems.
So what if the effigy in question were... oh... a burning cross? Especially on today of all days? Are we still all on the same page then? - motivatedguy, on 01/21/2009, -5/+13George Bush left the office of the President with total respect for the position he held. You all remember when Bill Clinton left office 8 years ago? It was a circus. Even as I write this now I'm looking at a Levis' Jeans ad featuring President Obama. That should tell you everything right there...
- seraph741, on 01/21/2009, -10/+18seriously, what? is this digg?
neocons, GTFO! really sore losers. go to church or something.
where does this idea of liberals not having morals come from? I have more morals then lots of conservative/religious/republicans that i know. we believe in helping all people, not just the rich, creating social programs, etc. basically everything that your bible teaches you. if anything, republicans don't have morals, all they care about is themselves. "Universal health care mean i have to wait a few months to get an elective surgery? screw that, i'd rather 40 million people not have insurance so i can get that surgery right away." bunch of self righteous greedy old people(GOP) if you ask me. - biohazrd, on 01/21/2009, -3/+11Who throws a shoe, honestly?
- Aguyinachair, on 01/21/2009, -1/+9Do people not realize the whole shoe throwing thing is just a reiteration of when the reporter threw his shoes? Am I the only one who sees this not as "some classless disrespect" but as a symbolic action showing how we agree with how the rest of the world saw/sees Bush?
Beyond this event, do the morons on here not remember that an entire spoof movie was made about Bush? How is it that the 22% of the morons that still supported him ended upo with 90% of the comments here? - 1337Einstein, on 01/21/2009, -2/+10Hyperbole only serves to mock hyperbole. For example...

If you want criticism to be taken seriously, make reasonable criticism. I'm not saying (and nor, do I believe, has Maddoktor) that no reasonable criticisms have been made, but that they are being overwhelmed by these unreasonable comments which border on the absurd. - alappat1, on 01/21/2009, -2/+9PhoenixTx, what your talking about is communism.
'Social democracies employ large social programs to help prevent reduction in income mobility (or formation of income based 'cast' systems). They also provide complete free healthcare to everyone (which is more efficient overall than a private helthcare system). Beyond that i don't think there is any difference (maybe stricter finance laws and higher taxes).
You want social democracies with similar or superior living conditions ? Look at Canada, (many) Scandinavian countries, and parts of Europe. They are enjoying life just as much as you - PhoenixTx, on 01/20/2009, -4/+11Do you know how to use a search engine dbldn?
