The strip club owners refused to pay the police bribes so the police shut them down. On a side note, the police actually save up money (40k rupiahs or so) to pay a bribe for a position to "guard" the strip clubs. They will eventually make their money back in bribes.

- MrSteamTank, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3It may be a grim situation for these prostitutes but compared to the alternatives it's definitely better for them. It's a choice that they generally make that it's easier and pays more than regular manual labour down there anyways.
The only thing I think is definitely bad about that situation is that prostitution is considered illegal for morality reasons that have no logical basis so much like in the illegal drug industry abuses happen that simply don't get reported. - BWhaler, on 10/10/2007, -9/+6It's a country where they cut arms off people to make them more sympathetic as beggars.
