- gcnaddict, on 10/11/2007, -1/+176Oh man I just love this:
"When you have paid as much as £100,000, you get to Operating Thetan Level Three and learn about 'The Incident'.
L Ron wrote that 75 million years ago an intergalactic space alien lord called Xenu kidnapped Thetans to earth, dumped them in volcanoes and blew them up with atomic bombs. "
First of all, wow. That's more obscure than Intelligent Design.
Second, I think the BBC just screwed them out of a few hundred million GBPs =) - iagn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+166Scientologist propoganda of John Sweeney 'losing it': http://youtube.com/watch?v=hxqR5NPhtLI ... omitting the bit where he was yelled at in the first instance, stalked and harassed for a week.
...you can see the comments have been flooded with pro-scientology conies dismissing the BBC as a 'disgrace', when their 'Favorites' are full of Tom Cruise clips. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a mass orchestrated campaign of many fake users.
Let's digg the hell out of this article and get the voice of common sense behind Mr. Sweeney
BBC > Scientology - BassCadet, on 10/11/2007, -3/+153Read the comments on the youtube video! It is CHOCK-FULL of Scientology whackos who are slamming the BBC reporter. FIGHT BACK, DIGG.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=hxqR5NPhtLI - rebotfc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+126Scientology needs to be exposed for the scam/extortion racket it is. Unfortunately there is alot of gullable people in the world who believe this crap.
Scientology will stop at nothing to destroy any opposing voices, Corruption, bribery, harrassment and potential even murder. As much as I hate scientologists I hope I never get on the wrong side of them because they have absolutely no conciense or quams about ruining peoples lives.
Maybe the only solution is to out the politicians and law enforcement agents they bribe / control.
These guys are far worse than the Masons ever were. - myojo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+97god bless the BBC!! sometimes they're worth the money!!
- moogle516, on 10/11/2007, -0/+80Its kinda ***** that the comments have to be approved by the uploader, thus ensuring he only approves pro-scientolgy commemts, and ignores the rest. I dont think he's going to approve my comment
- scotsboyuk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+67Auntie will sort them out. The documentary is on BBC1 this Monday at 8.30 pm.
- MacintoshSauce, on 10/11/2007, -2/+66I agree. These Scientology freaks should be exposed for the false gospel they preach to people. I have always known these people were freaks from what I saw in Los Angeles, Let's just say what I saw sickened me beyond belief.
There is this Scientology complex right on Hollywood Blvd., and one day during the Christmas season my wife and I were checking out stores on the street to look for some collectible items. We walked past their building only to be accosted by Scientology zombies trying to push their alien crap on us. They had some person dressed up as Santa Claus, luring children into some sort of a winter wonderland. Absolutely sickenening IMO! They were giving all the children some Scientology literature, etc. Their zombies were trying to get people to bring their children in off the street and then poison their minds.
These bastards deserve to die IMO. - DocHoliday22, on 10/11/2007, -0/+60BBC isn't like CNN or Fox, they'll gun anyone down even one of their own to expose naughtiness by corrupt individuals
- neio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+59I digg the BBC, BBC > Scientology.
The Scientologists are moderating the hell out of Youtube comments.
Operation Clambake all over again. - next, on 10/11/2007, -0/+57Okay, this is beyond creepy. This video is obviously meant to ruin the man's credibility. Check this out:
http://youtube.com/comment_servlet?all_comments&v=hxqR5NPhtLI&fromurl=/watch%3Fv%3DhxqR5NPhtLI
That shows all comments on the video, starting with the first posted.
portran (Joined: May 11 2007): He should drop his day job and check out jobs that don't involve having to speak or associate with people such as mining for oil in the North Sea on a one man unit. Get him off the TV he's a crying shame for the British.
JohnGalaxy (Joined: May 11 2007): I guess this could be used as a great example of a psychotic break for anyone wanting to know what they look like! It's no wonder standard media viewership is on such a heavy decline!
bbcstaffer (Joined: May 11 2007): Sweeney's conduct is inexcusable and unprofessional. Reporting for Panorama is all about crediblity and he has none after this, he should resign or be fired for damaging and discrediting our trusted status.
snuffysmith8008 (Joined: May 12 2007): Doesn't seem to have all his chairs pulled up to the table. The BBC ought re-evaluate its reasons for keeping him on the payroll, otherwise, how can they justify their licence fee?
lordgark (Joined: May 11 2007): My last comment also goes for the other yapping cur dogs siding with Sweeneys black propaganda
yohaidii2004 (Joined: May 12 2007): Don't criticize the BBC guy! I bet he has very big things in his past to hide if he shouts so loud ;)
These were 6 of the first 9 comments posted. The other three were from who I can only assume were Scientologists with established YouTube accounts.
But it is NOT common for people to register accounts specifically for a small YouTube clip like this. This is entirely deliberate, particularly seeing as they were posted right after the video was submitted. - meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+53I remember the BBC News giving the BBC itself a hard time about the Hutton report (however unjustified that was) and another occasion where they criticised themselves for not being unbiased enough, and other flaws, following an external report.
I could never see any other broadcaster in the World being that honest about themselves and i doubt one ever will. - mrwoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+47Well from watching the video, i'd say Sweeney must have gone through hell of a lot of ***** to get that pissed off...
Did you hear the ***** in the back ground? Just repeating over and over... "brainwashing is a crime, brainwashing is a crime" Hell in sweeny's position i'd have lamped the ***** out. I'll be watching at 20:30 as a lad we knew at school "vanished" into this Cult. - marnaq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+46Hope it hits the torrentz for us non-UKers.
- Jergens, on 10/11/2007, -7/+52Apparently, Digg headlines only need to contain keywords now.
Sentence structure? Bahhhhh Humbug. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+43"Scientology needs to be exposed for the scam/extortion racket it is. Unfortunately there is alot of gullable people in the world who believe this crap."
@rebotfc: Too true. Many of them "airheads" connected with Hollywood -- enough said. - joeydoo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+43No one expects the Scientology Inquisition!
Actually.... scratch that....
Everyone expects the Scientology Inquisition! - 68024, on 10/11/2007, -0/+39Yeah, but it's dangerous silliness... especially when defined as a religion.
- 68024, on 10/11/2007, -0/+38Come on, I'm waiting for the scientologists to arrive on Digg to try and defend their 'religion'! Give 'em a dose of the old Digg effect!

Panorama
Mon 14 May, 8:30 pm - 9:00 pm 30mins
John Sweeney investigates the Church of Scientology, endorsed by some major Hollywood celebrities, but which continues to face the criticism that it is less of a religion and more of a cult. Some former members claim the Church uses a mind control technique to put opponents at a psychological disadvantage. During the course of his investigation, Sweeney is shouted at, spied on, visited in his hotel at midnight and chased around the streets of LA by strangers in hire cars.

Hail Xenu - ftbl52, on 10/11/2007, -0/+36"L Ron wrote that 75 million years ago an intergalactic space alien lord called Xenu kidnapped Thetans to earth, dumped them in volcanoes and blew them up with atomic bombs."
Sounds like a great, feasible religion to me. - edzillion, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35Its the greatest story never told...
http://xenu.net/ - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35I worship the dark Lord Xenu. And soon as he's killed Harry Potter, he'll rule the world! Be warned, muggles! ... What? OH. Not THAT Xenu. Er, sorry.
Actually, every Scientologist I have ever met since 1967 has something wrong with them. Can one call something a religion if all its followers are mental ill or have personality disorders? I'd call something like that a cult. And it does seem like worship of Voldemort. - gl77, on 03/31/2008, -0/+33"Despite all the pressure - the letters from lawyers, the letters from MPs, the strangers knocking up my family and neighbours - if people from "disconnected" families tell me that Scientology is a cult, that will be reported."
Strangers knocking up your family and neighbors? To what lengths will these damn scientologists go? - iagn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+33An email to reader@observer.co.uk to complain after a particularly shoddy article on the subject.
....
One point in particular in David Smith's article - http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,2078503,00.html
The response of YouTube users has been damning. One said yesterday: 'I for one feel confident and glad that I am paying good money for this psycho to remain on television! Is this really what English TV has degraded itself to?' Another wrote: 'Surely this is a joke right? How can a mentally unbalanced man like this be a BBC reporter? This kinda makes you wonder if he is not dreaming up what he reports or if TV actually reports truth! Man I'm done with the BBC.'
...smacks of poor research.
The scientology propoganda video that was uploaded on YouTube has set comments to 'Moderated of approval', so it's no surprise that only pro-scientology comments are getting through - http://youtube.com/watch?v=hxqR5NPhtLI
Scientology cronies with multiple accounts have spammed the comments with the anti-BBC tripe that your reporter was so quick to suck up and regurgitate into a national newspaper.
Clicking on almost any of the names shows that they are 'newly registered', for example;

If David Smith had bothered to look for the non-moderated equivalent discussion - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HGM8DSnYh0 - he would have realised that the majority of YouTube opinion is right behind the BBC and people aren't so quick to get behind a dangerous cult no matter how many free DVDs they get in the post.
Disappointing. - akersmc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!!!
- akme, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29There is an idiom that aptly describes ALL scientologists...
'A fool and his money are soon parted' - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29Planet Earth. That's all you have to say about the power and professionalism of the BBC.
- Iriel, on 10/11/2007, -1/+28@BREAK99:
While I'm inclined to agree with you and George Carlin to a point, Scientology goes above and beyond the normal boundaries of fanaticism. I can't think of any other religion that has such a well-paid team of lawyers and spin doctors that can make things like the Perkins Tragedy go away (http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/JeremyPerkins/). - jimsterbell, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26I was blocked from posting comments on the video and none of them were approved, they were fairly level headed anti-scientology comments aswell, except maybe one that said 'omgz propaganda' after i got pissed at my other comments not being approved :P.
- neio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23I'm actually salivating at the prospect.
- knulpm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22They'd make it, but John Travolta can't afford to lose any more money. *CoughBattlefieldEarthCough*
- DeusNova, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22Silly cults, I live around 5 minutes from their headquarters....they're every where, they all dress the same, act the same and talk the same. It's kinda scary, they practically own the city(Clearwater, Florida). Sometimes I wish we can just screw the whole freedom of religion thing in these cases and just take down the structure and not the people. The average person is pretty innocent, sometimes they'll buy out the whole movie theater and offer free tickets for any who wants talk. Not everyone is like us where we research stuff before doing something, joining something...etc...I've had an uncle involved with Scientology , he got out but now he's into debt big time. He practically lost his own life, wife and kids because of it. He failed to keep care of his house and it in really bad condition that a person can't live in it anymore. He's building his life back up though but that debt is insane. I'm worried if he died or something(he's in horrible health =) it might spill onto my parents and myself and that would suck.
Heh sorry for the rant but I really despise Scientology...
We Digg users have the power to stop the growth of Scientology, we need to get the truth out about Scientology to the general public not just computer savvy people. We'll find a way. I promise we will. =) - MacintoshSauce, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21The YouTube site link is blocking all comments criticising Scientology. They are blocking me from posting now. What a bunch of ***** cowards! DIGG these bastards down!
- vertinox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21How could you not be angry when you discover the truth behind Scientology?
- break99, on 10/11/2007, -17/+37You're right but this applies to all religions:
[insert religion name here] are only speaking out against the [insert network name here] because they're afraid that the truth will come out and they'll be exposed for what they really are.
One of the best quotes ever:
Religion has convinced people that there's an invisible man…living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money.
George Dennis Carllin - chukd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20I wish i lived at a place that got BBC1 to watch that investigative report. Its about time someone in the media did something like that. Southpark did their show about Scientology a couple years ago but I think most didn't pay attention because it was Southpark. Mr. Sweeny if they ever chase you out of England, you are welcome here anytime. We need reporters like you in the US.
- neio, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Can we have a Dugg for Irony button please.
- rebotfc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19It is very different, trekkies won't ruin your life if you reject them.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20Scientology sounds a lot like Jehovah's Witnesses. With an extra sprinkle of cultness.
- neio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, read the Wiki entry for Operation Clambake regarding Scientology.
They actively sue ISP's who host Xenu dot net and tried to force Google to remove xenu from the index. - chukd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Its the stroke of brilliance behind Scientology. Tell everyone they are perfectly fine and that all the psychologists are just out for money and torture so the members don't seek help for their disorders.
- xpankrat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18> Read the comments on the youtube video!

Don't post anything, just RATE this video down and flag it for removal. - Fantt, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Christianity doesn't charge you money to learn about it. They'll gladly give you a bible for free. Muslims will gladly give you a Koran, and Mormons will happily hand over a Book of Mormon. Regardless of any other faults of the world's major religions, none of them, to my knowledge, require $200,000 up front to learn what the religion is "really" about.
- Teddo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Look at the Comments section under the video, and click on the users who make comments like:
" Absolutely appalling behaviour from John Sweeney - and we're supposed to trust what he has to say? I don't think so."
" I hate to say it, but point taken."
Most of them are recently created profiles. Sock puppets if you will, created by ...well, its pretty obvious who. - Vazel, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19I was wondering when someone would start comparing scientology to every other religion. gg. I'm not one that gives much substance to any dogma but you gotta admit scientology is in a league of its own.
- iffypop, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Scientology will be a little blip in history that future generations will find hilarious.
- positron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14If only we fans across the pond had an opportunity to legally receive the full spectrum of BBC programmes. I'd gladly pay the television licensing fee for the opportunity. BBC America is great sometimes, but often their programming choices and the delayed broadcasting leave something to be desired. I'd love to see more partnering between American companies and the BBC like what happened with HBO on the production of Rome. Until then I'd like to thank our British cousins who take the time to make some of that great television available to us via bittorrent. (Oh! And you Aussies as well. Don't know how I'd live without my Australia's Next Top Model and Chaser's fix.)
- CaptSolo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14"Panorama has responded by posting a YouTube clip of its own in which leading scientologist Tom Davis, a friend of Cruise and son of the film actress Anne Archer, also a scientologist, is seen losing his temper at Sweeney's use of the words 'sinister cult' and storming away mid-interview with the reporter in hot pursuit.
In a separate clash Archer, an Oscar nominee for her role as Michael Douglas's wife in Fatal Attraction, is understood to have snapped when Sweeney asked if she could have been brainwashed. The Church has withdrawn consent for the BBC to use the footage and Panorama is being hastily re-edited for broadcast tomorrow, but will still include the Sweeney outburst."
via http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,2078503,00.html - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13here's a clip of Scientologists randomly accusing a guy of being a child molester a murderer and a wife beater because he is filming on a "closed (public) street".
