I'm beginning to think this is just the beginning with regards to scientists. - RandomGorilla, on 10/10/2009, -2/+17Yet another idiot who hadn't figured out you can't blow up the earth with the LHC.

- schnikies79, on 10/10/2009, -0/+14I don't know a single religious person, not a single one, that disputes that black holes exist.
Black holes have never been a religious issue. - DeskFlyer, on 10/10/2009, -0/+13http://www.cyriak.co.uk/lhc/lhc-webcams.html

- Brian Cox, Physicist at CERN - kanojo1969, on 10/10/2009, -3/+12This was the top comment on the page when I visited. I figured it was worth keeping for posterity. This was a reply to another guy using information from 'jihad watch' to back up his claims that muslims were the most violent and dangerous religion/group...
---------------------------------------
Well, as I have said before, that the facts just don't don't back up their feelings has no affect on how those who love to hate.
So, if the data on terrorism as collected by European police forces is not convincing, I guess the data collected by Gallup won't be, either.
They came up with a criteria for terming Muslims either radical or moderate (and if you used the same basic premise to rate the Israeli population either radical or moderate, you'd probably get a bigger percentage of 'radicals'), and guess what:
"Perhaps most surprising to many Westerners, the two groups showed
little difference in religiosity as measured by the frequency of religious
service attendance and the affirmation that religion is an important part
of their daily lives."
"In addition, political radicals were, on average, slightly more educated and more affluent than the moderates, suggesting that the root causes of extremism typically do not include manipulation of the ignorant by religious superstition or promises of economic assistance."
And, here's the kicker, the finding that shows how much alike the 'Islamic extremists' and the Islamiphobes are:
"Perhaps most telling is the fact that, in response to the open-ended question, “What is your greatest fear?”, the most frequent response among political radicals was “occupation/U.S. domination,” while among moderates, it was concern about economic issues."
Simply substitute "Muslim domination" and you'd have the answer so many of the phobes would give

- dafragsta, on 10/10/2009, -0/+6That's why I never trust people with prematurely white hair.
- hauntedchippy, on 10/10/2009, -1/+6It's even easier when you actually know the science and aren't a conspiracy loving moron trying to feel important.
- schnikies79, on 10/10/2009, -1/+5A older gentleman that lives across the street highway from me thinks the hubble is a hoax, as well as the moon landing.
He is an atheist too. - duggtodeath, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4I dugg you up.
- acceleration, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4Damn, my comment appears completely out of context now... the original comment was spam, from a user called 'croatiaboy', who proclaimed his link being the "best mp3 site".. so can you imagine the hilarity now?
- Novusuna, on 10/10/2009, -0/+4It could be that his job at the LHC had nothing to do with his terrorist connections.
- inactive, on 10/10/2009, -3/+7who need nuke if you can use Black hole??
- velveetaavenger, on 10/10/2009, -3/+6It's easy to make a claim like that when nobody will be around to call you out if it's wrong.
- AmazingSteve, on 10/10/2009, -0/+3Just remember the basics people and you'll all be fine. ALWAYS have your towel with you, and if all else fails, the answer is 42.
- bipolarruledout, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2Even terrorists have to make a living.
- bluesman3535, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2From a security perspective it seems odd to use "outside contractors" working in sensitive areas of a nuclear facility. But it helps explain how every nutty regime on the planet seems much closer to having nukes. In any case it's not likely that 100 year old technology can be kept secret.
- motters, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2The stuff about the LHC destroying the world was nonsense though. Although this raises the entertaining hypothesis that the terrorists bought into the nonsense and really believed that switching on the LHC was going to destroy the world.
- BoobsRPleasant, on 10/10/2009, -1/+3Where in the article does it say he was plotting to blow up the Large Hadron Collider?
- thinkerroad, on 10/10/2009, -4/+6The plan:
Run the LHC at 105%, throw gordon freeman in there, and wait for a resonance cascade :D - pwarnock, on 10/09/2009, -7/+9A plot to blow up the world? Damage billions of dollars worth of technology? Or coincidence?
- Bondheli, on 10/12/2009, -0/+1I've always thought the question about the LHC shouldn't have been would it accidentally cause an earth ending event, but rather, if someone wanted to, could they intentionally create and stabilize a black hole that could be a threat.
- Trexor, on 10/10/2009, -0/+1A case of an industrial espionage/sabotage attempt?
- EffZee, on 10/10/2009, -0/+1And don't panic.
- Rudegar, on 10/11/2009, -0/+1it's a cool steam-punk Large Hadron Collider though

- siszam, on 10/10/2009, -3/+2Cross the wrong person, disagree with the new religion of science, have an unpopular political view and you're arrested for terrorism. I wonder who he pissed off.
- Khast, on 10/10/2009, -5/+4You never met my parents or some of my neighbors.
Something about things we are seeing with Hubble being either a hoax, or proof of god depending on the circumstance. - Landtat, on 10/10/2009, -1/+0dupe! buried. Please read a few posts before posting what 13 others already have.
