These teachers had no authority to go around playing undercover-lets-catch-the-bad-guy games and such. Which also means they had no ability to protect the student they sent to buy the pot from legal consequences either. Fortunately the *actual* law enforcers were wise enough, in this situation, to not punish the kid and punish the teachers instead.

Just to clear up a few misconceptions, the cops didn't set up this "sting", the principal, vice principal, and superintendent did (or at least those are the three being investigated). The kid selling got arrested, but will get off with so easily the paper bag lawyer in the Fandango commercials can represent him. I feel bad for the kid that the principal convinced to work alongside him. He's gonna be so ostracized by his peers that he'll probably have to move. An epic boneheaded move by the Porter School administration which does nothing but hurt everyone involved. And doing it the week that the state of California is debating whether to actually legalize marijuana (I know, for 21+)? Just...wow.

Does this "help" these young men who are now labeled as criminals? Not to mention the personal liberties that have been lost, and the amount of power the federal government now has over our lives! If my next door neighor smokes pot, I don't really care. That's his own thing, and I sure as hell wouldn't want him arrested for doing what he finds enjoyable! He's not harming anybody! Basically, they were having the 1st student play the part of a Narc. They were trying to get the second student.
Entrapment is "the act of a law enforcement agent inducing a person to commit an offence which the person would otherwise have been unlikely to commit." Ignoring the law enforcement agent part, if the second student was selling drugs already, this act was unlikely entrapment.
A much more likely example of entrapment is dropping a ziploc bag of drugs in the hallway, then following the person who picks it up, and if they don't go to the authorities (at all, right away), and arresting them for possession/dealing/etc. - inactive, on 02/27/2009, -3/+17WTF

But the higher THC levels makes it even safer - smokers engage in compensatory behavior, and smoke as much as it takes to get high.
