.02 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+177I would correct it in red pen, give it a grade of D with instructions to work on his spelling, sign it and return it.
- CptAmerica, on 10/12/2007, -4/+160His eenglesh teecher lerned him good
- squishee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+147"Failure to return this letter will automatically keep your child off of the senior activates list."
"Activates" list? Unexcecpable indeed. - Eljefedeath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+133@tof
As a teacher with dyslexia I can safely say that this guy is still a tool. You do not send out letters to parents without carefully checking them, especially if you know you suck at spelling - dyslexia or no. - DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+137That school dean loves scotch. Scotchy scotch scotch...
- HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -6/+130Just pour some electrolytes on the letter and it'll correct the spelling.
- themajor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+115F7 if he really didn't have that much time
- coit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+111The spelling and grammar tools might even miss some of these. There are several more errors in there than what is highlighted:
"Today Monday April 30th 2007" is a total train wreck.
...during "out" 6th grade....
Ahh, screw it, there are just too many errors to even mention. - mikesherov, on 11/01/2007, -5/+110Yeah, and you still managed to spell "important" as "importent", even if it was all jumbled up. Great job!
- mikesherov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+71from the picture: "many students *from* the impression"
from the comment: "just got home *form* school" - liambarron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+69"Any questions or comments feel free to contact me at the school." I hope the questions don't contact him, I have heard that they can be pretty hostile.
punctuate much? - BritishGolgo13, on 11/01/2007, -3/+64I was able to read that with no problem. Mentally retarded or internet alumni? You decide.
- mrlost117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56all this over a old fashioned food fight AND he cant spell???
I'd sign with another letter attached - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+56Just got home form school. My English teacher spent the whole freaking class making fun of this guy.....wow
- RichLatherX23, on 10/12/2007, -8/+59Me fail English? That's unpossible!
- Cloud7654, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45Missed one:
"After discussing with our Principal Mrs DellaRocca we are now holding the entire health academy out of all senior activates (including prom and trip)."
I'm normally not a Spelling & Grammar Nazi, but this is just unexcecpable. =P - ThaCapn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35What kind of school has a prom for 8th graders and why does he call them seniors?
- clintone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33That's how they talk in Staten Island.
- phlamingtoad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33why even bother breaking out the highlighter if you're only going to catch half the mistakes?
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33Me fail english? That unpossible!
- thetanbark, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34Maybe you should call the school and personally instruct him how to use spell check: 718-981-0502
- grooviekenn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33To be honest, i would kind of expect spelling errors from a "health academy dean".
What the hell is a health academy dean anyways? - TozerAptor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Great Onion Blurb: "Ask Murderer Terrorizes Ghetto."
- TheFightForGood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29I'm no english major, and I basically suck at writing papers, but c'mon, even I can tell that letter is poorly written.
This is who is teaching the leaders of our future? Makes me feel real good about what to expect... - Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"
- belden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26From this article: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/05/03/2007-05-03_unexcecpable-5.html
"Parents who saw the letter had a mixed response.
"When you're taking care of a lot of children, it's no big deal that he misspelled a word," said Karen Del Grosso. "We all make mistakes."
John Jelcic, the father of a sixth-grader, said he's more concerned about rowdy conditions in the slightly overcrowded middle school.
"Every day they have a food fight," he said, noting that he plans to transfer his son."
It's good to know that at least the school has some concerned, pro-active parents who don't seem to care how dumb the people teaching their children are and will simply move rather than address a problem. - davidave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27anyone with a "dean" title at a junior high is probably not anywhere close to the dean of anything. this guys doesn't even have access to school letterhead.
- TheDagan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30Eevn if the Hetalh Adacmey Daen had witrten the lteetr wtihuot the sepinllg and gmaramr msitkeas, it sitll wuold hvae been a poor way to diicipslne the pesrnos rsepsionlbe for the food fghit.
- Lancer383, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Best part? He misspelled the principal's last name. Take a look at his spelling: "DellaRocca."
Now take a look at the spelling on this page: http://www.mystatenisland.com/servlets/WebPage?actionid=950&eid=37262 -- notice that this is the school he is part of (still cannot find the "Health Academy" mentioned online, but the address is the same as in the letter), and you'l see that the principal's last name is actually "Della Rocca."
And, yes, I made extra sure to hit the Digg "Check Spelling" button before sending this. - noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24@huntertv:
brawndo's got what letters to parents crave -- its got electrolytes. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24I got some tail at my 8th grade prom.
Literally. We played pin the tail on the donkey. - SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23The world would be a better place if everyone who said AXE instead of ASK would just vanish.
- CrackaPleeze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Dugg. Thanks for a no-***** link directly to what I wanted to see.
- spartan018, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22sorry, its not. i live a few miles from the school, it was on the front page of my local paper yesterday. i wish it was fake though, it just shows how ***** the school system is here.
- meggani, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Check Spelling won't fix that error..!
- Neiby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20It's not just the spelling. That letter is chock full of grammar and punctuation errors.
- macaddct1984, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Riiight... Privatizing solves everything!

That school is on Staten Island. I wouldn't worry to much about our future leaders :) - colincsl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17This does not work in all cases. There have been further studies disproving its complete effectiveness.
- qber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Here's the news article: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/05/03/2007-05-03_unexcecpable-5.html
- dweeb79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Maybe he was drunk when he wrote it.
Or maybe he wanted to see if his students would notice the mistakes. It could have been a test!!! - nismerf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15D is for Lysdexia!!
- rickyuser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16BREAKING NEWS* - Bush appoints Dean to new position of "Ejimacation Guy"
Bush, quoted as saying, "I like this Dean, he is not afraid to ignore the obvious left-wing bias of spelling and grammar. And maybe he can get Jeb to stop throwin’ food at me during white house dinners.” - flatpick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16The condition is, apparently, contagious!
/ uses Check Spelling to avoid even more irony... - lordkenthegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Its real. I live on Staten Island, and sadly, a lot of schools here are bad.
- cbergeron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Yeah, it's funny that some criticized his spelling, but didn't catch the "Activates" one.
That probably means that they can't spell either. - Sol1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14The ridiculous of this letter aside, my guess is that it was dictated and his secretary typed it up. Granted, anybody who attended public school knows how ass-backwards school administrations can be at any level, let alone the junior high level, but this is a little too dumb even for a jr. high dean. Also note the hand-written "Parents Signature:" line is clearly a woman's (girl's?) handwriting.
I'm not excusing this jackass either way. If you're going to send a letter out to the parental units of your entire 8th grade, at least take a second and proof-read your drop-out secretary's transcription, but I'm sticking to thinking this was dictated. -
