- XISUPERMANIX, on 10/10/2007, -3/+106I'd buy it just to hear the horn, AAAWUUUUGAAAHHHHH. Cars nowadays have little pussy horns.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+58It came with a free tommy-gun
- carguy84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+40In case anyone wants to see what it looks like all cleaned up, I took this at the 2004 Pebble Beach show:
http://www.dealerrater.com/images/bugatti.jpg - realclark, on 10/10/2007, -4/+42i have a 1982 ford ltd in my barn.....is that worth anything?
- futureteg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30$350
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28hey, it is a bugatti
- redrock34, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21One man's garbage is another man's treasure.
- brstilson, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22Doesn't look that rusty to me. In fact it's in pretty remarkable condition considering it'll be 70 years old next year. Even restored it probably won't be worth $800,000, but it is still a rare classic find. Only 6,000 type 57s were manufactured.
- smackywentz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21I thought it might be a Dusenberg, but a Bugatti will rake that kind of dough in as well. Hell just the engine of a Dusenberg will go for 80 grand.
- grungegbunny, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18well at least its a kickass looking piece of rust.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14You'll never get me copper, see?
- digid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Not bad. Original List price 1938 Bugatti $5,500.
Imagine he was keen at investing his money and was able to make a 5% every year over the past 80 years, he would have roughly $150,000 today. Now imagine he was really sharp and knew how to make a 10% return every year on his money. He would have roughly 4 million.
Don't you just love compound interest. - ChileanGoD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10It used Rust-eze's rear bumper oil formula.
- dzorz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10K-UGER
- coasterswim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9What gave it away? The "1982" part?
- krakhed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I'm not sure how many Bugatti 57s There are but you are talking millions for a car restored to Pebble Beach spec.
- obrysii, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Why is it that people consider cars older than five years old to be pieces of junk?
- peranadigital, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Yeah it needs a bit of work but I'd take that instead of shiny rocks any day.
- GliTCH82, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9....NYAH!
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7$6... Autozone =)
- Ibox, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8What rust??? looks a little dirty, and some chiped paint. prolly went for so much cuz its all original.
- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4My 2002 GMC Sierra can still tow 6000 pounds across the country reliably and safely, and is still a comfortable ride. Five years old, not junk. I'll get buried because it's from an American company, though.
- smackywentz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Yeah I know! It was even more annoying because of all those random words they put around it.
- MrSlumberjack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Buried as innacurate... thats not a "rusty bucket".
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3There is no ***** rust on it, that is "I would consider mint" with a new paint job.
- xero69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Spend another $100,000 or so and that car will fetch over a million easily. A very wise investment. I love how my muscle cars are appreciating, screw using a 401K I want to truly enjoy my nest egg.
- addakorn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3or not like McDonald's
- spect3r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, it will be one sweet car when it's refinished...
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Nope. Cars last far longer than they used to. Remember when 100K miles meant most cars were falling apart?
- jezsik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3A Bugatti? Oh, maaaaan, what a great automobile. They sound as impressive as they look.
- wiggles, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3My brothers actually installed a Tin Lizzy (AUUUUGAH!) horn in my first car -- a 1986 Chevette. That car was the greatest piece of ***** that ever rolled off a Detroit assembly line.
If you want one for your car, you can get a reproduction if you look around... - Error601, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I don't see any rust on there. It looks like it's in rather good shape.
- LGod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The internets are your friend.
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Yup, and I've seen worse sold for more. Sure, it's a big pile of cash, but it's not "expensive" for what he's getting...
- sabach, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I drive a '91 Pontiac with 137,000, doesn't use any oil, gets 28 mpg. Good enough for me.
- optimus378, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Rusty? I see no rust. Maybe a little fender damage, but not anything that couldn't be beaten out. The car looks quite magnificent for its age. I would'nt pay 850K for it, but then again I'm no collector.
- garyh84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Damn! 24 years have been horrible!
- EricPeters, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2My dad has a 1973 Triumph TR6 sitting in our driveway. If only either of us knew how to fix it (properly) so we could restore it... *sigh*
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Mirror: http://www.favoritepart.com/Default.aspx?img=741&alt=favorite+Most+Expensive+Jalopy
- manogamez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wtf.
Why did this cost more than my island?
http://www.digg.com/offbeat_news/Buy_This_Stunning_Island_from_Ebay - knetworx, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6I'd totally hit that.
- drouk1556, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I hope you have good collision insurance.
- Harbinger67, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2My thoughts exactly. 850K for this car should come as no surprise to any 'car guy', but most people will look at it and go 'wtf, no backup cameras or cup holder warmers?"
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Could HAVE.
And a kit car isn't the same thing as a real authentic. - cawpin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Believe it or not, I have a 1986 Chevette sitting in a friend's garage waiting for a small block Chevy to be placed.
- cuby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1actually, car sellers deliberately keep the dust and schmutz on garage-find cars like these, because buyers at this level actually prefer it that way. just a quirk of the industry ... all things considered the car is in amazing condition in actuality.
- xchrisxsays, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yeah that rusty car is going to sell for over 1.5 mil when its restored and auctioned or sold to another buyer. So, 850K is a reasonable price.
- zigzagdesigns, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Original find [ PIC ] http://cll.hemmings.com/uimage/718426-1600-1067.jpg
- lacr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That is like an artist buying a finished painting instead of painting one themselves.
- Sonizel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I take it you never saw sicko.
