- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -19/+52The only reason I'm digging this is in spite of you.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27It's not a popularity contest - It's a quashing of the whiners.
If you take five minutes to look at the comments of any article, you'll find that anyone who posts "dupe" immediately gets modded down.
This one made it to the front page. Yours didn't. Get over it. - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Some more general ones:
www.despair.com - dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23This one made it to the frontpage because dirtyfratboy submitted it, and he has a *****-ton of people following what he submits. end of story.
- WarMace, on 10/12/2007, -10/+24I digg the dupe with the better title.
- djNullSpace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"Sorry, a mirror of Role Playing Game Inspirational Posters is not available.
This is because the site is using a robots.txt file to block DuggMirror." - mtalon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12DM is specific to Dungeons and Dragons. GM is the generic term used by most other games. It doesn't make sense to have a Dungeon Master when you don't have a dungeon (as seen in sci-fi roleplaying). You may not care what I say, but that's how it is :)
- da5idblacksun, on 10/12/2007, -12/+21I understand its a popularity contest for the stories but I didn't think it was for who submitted it. In this case the titles were too similar to really be a factor. My submission was 3 days before his. It seems clear this one was about who submitted it and not how and when it was submitted. What did I think this site was about? Well it seemed that respect and common sense were a factor but perhaps they are not. I take the time to search and if I find that someone submitted before me I digg their story. Perhaps I'm naive.
- poipoipoi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11@jswan - if you think being popular on digg is winning... i'll stop there.
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8http://flagrantdisregard.com/flickr/motivator.php - here, this'll ensure a few hours of fun! Make your own motivational posters.
- DCMarkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Coral Cache:
http://www.thornyscrate.com.nyud.net:8080/~wes/roleplaying/inspirational2/ - dravidian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Dugg mirror not working?
- Misanthrope, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Maybe dirtyfratboy should get his own digg-like site and all of his fans could go there and digg all of his stories. Then I wouldn't have to see people bitching all the god damned time.
If you're only digging stories from one users list, it kind of kills the whole idea of digg. I mean, if 3 people submit the same story and the same guy always get his dugg...why should anyone else bother? Eventually this site will become a handful of people with stories on the front page, regardless of who else may have submitted it. It'll be sort of like Slashdot. Neat. - tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Forbidden
- da5idblacksun, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16Obviously I didn't. I'm new here and don't know anyone in the core click. I find it interesting that pointing out a fundamental problem with how this site works gets my comments negative votes.
How come the instructions for submitting say to search first and no one does it?
Now I understand that statistic that most stories that make it to the front page are submitted by the same small group of people. Half the time they are submitting dupes but still get on the front page anyway. - llewner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This link isn't working for me, just says "FORBIDDEN"
- consoneo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm not digging it because the guy wants to be a prick and not let the site be mirriored. And he can't keep it up.
- Recluse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Gotta love Despair Inc.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12seems to be going slow, so here's the karma whoring:
http://duggmirror.com/offbeat_news/Role_Playing_Game_Inspirational_Posters - GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What ever happened to burying a story by selecting "Bad Link"? It's not there anymore.
- postaboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It's wrong that the top users run this site so I dugg the original to even out the playing field.
- RipperMortis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"Seems like a popularity contest around here."
No, it's just that a lot of Digg users are *****.
I know I am. - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Contents of robots.txt:
# go away

Disallow: / - llbbl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I got a mirror up:
http://www.llbbl.com/data/RPG-motivational/ - cal01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You're wrong then. GM is more appropriate because there's more than just D&D.
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -13/+15LOL - of COURSE it's a popularity contest! Stories get rewarded for being more popular. It's got a damn counter to tell you just how popular it is. WTF is wrong with you?
Welcome to Digg. It's a social bookmarking site - social in that it involves many people interacting, therefore the more people that interact with you or your story, the better. AKA - a popularity contest. Except it's not for who gets the most dates, drinks the most beers, or scores the most touchdowns - it's what story is better and which story is promoted better (aka, better headline, better description, better category, etc.).
What did you think this was? - QuarterRoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sown at the bottom of the page there is a button that says report a website bug. it's under site links. One click bad link reporting was a lot better though but at least it's something.
- cal01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG. We killed this one too!
- candre23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was able to get some of the pics to come up with the coral cache link, but most are still broken. What I saw was great though.
~200 pics @ an average of 70k is about 14MB. After a few hundred diggers this adds up to a lot of bandwidth for any one site. How about using bittorrent to spread the love? - candre23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you legitimately want to mirror the site, you could send an email to the provided address, to which Wes could reply with a compressed copy of the site as an attachment. You do not need to give out your server info.
- caliform, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because Flickr isn't as nice as the better websites.
- peorth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unless you have a Pro account, which has lots of bandwidth, you'll face the same problems.
- Scottamus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea, and fark and /.
You see some article from 3 years ago suddenly pop up on all of them within a day and you have to go hmm. I haven't actually checked to see the direction of propagation but I'd digg a story on it. - CoolHanLuke, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4and you wonder how dirtyfratboy posts all the good stories...
- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes. yes you do.
- xcwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No digg. I am an RPG fan and I still don't find most of them funny. Makes it looks like RPG fans have no creative side or something...
- llbbl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got a mirror up:
http://www.llbbl.com/data/RPG-motivational/ - CuisinartBlade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone please host this... i wanna see the pics :/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet digg PWND another site! Even the duggmirror is down. Check back later I guess....
- getrealnow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cant get to it
- chaos217, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Same here, is anyone able to post a mirror, or perhaps upload the pictures somewhere so we can see them?
- llbbl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wes seems like a good guy, I got the info from him and uploaded it to my server myself.
http://www.llbbl.com/data/RPG-motivational/ - Xcalibur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This should have it's own story actually. It's pretty cute.
- Raybdbomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got a copy of all of the images, if anyone wants it.
http://raybdbomb.com/p/php-script-to-extract-images-from-a-forum-thread.html
images.tgz, 134.65MB - bongowaxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just refreshed about 10 times, tried the mirror and couldn't connect to either.
"Forbidden You do not have permission to access the requested file on this server."... Bummer - caliform, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, that's really credible. I'd give out at least all of my server details to someone I think is someone in my mind because he has a free account on digg with his name. Wow, that's really convincing, I'll send you my passwords right now!
- To0n1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Verboten.
My suggestion: Use the World of Warcraft forum link by MuffinMan above: At least you get to see SOMETHING related to the article.
Nothing to see here, move along - ColdChilli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why don't people use flickr to post images! You dont get bandwith issues like this
- WesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Uhhhh... and it couldn't POSSIBLY be that you guys killed my site with your traffic?
How on earth did this become about identities of posters? -
