- Matrixsta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Cooler than crop circles
- lordigor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7the town is at 40.638837, 140.560198, but the photo quality is too poor to see anything.
- jamdogg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Well, they have days in full view to make the rice art. Crop circle makers do their thing in one night, covertly. Crop circles are definitely more 'ninja'.
- kikuchiyo11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I actually live in Aomori-ken. I've seen photos of this rice field art on local magazines and stuff, but haven't seen it in person (it's on the Tsugaru side and the farthest I go that was is Aomori City). But there's plenty of wide open rice fields in the prefecture to be able to to do something like this. It is one of the many quiet wonders of Aomori (in addition to the nebuta fall festival, squid races, wild horses, Hakodate mountain, and snow monkeys).
- j1337, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's real. It made the rounds on the Japanese news, and the original post about it on Pink Tentacle was all over the blogosphere a while ago:

- kikuchiyo11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There's a place in the prefecture where they "race" squids and eat the winner :>
- magnusbe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Squid races??? Please, tell us more!
- str3ama, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3The amount of patience you would need to do that, just amazing.
- ObSoLeTe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1beautiful

You've got to use the Japanese characters when searching in Google Earth: ็ฐ่้คจๆ Unfortunately the satellite images are far to blurry - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Inakadate is in the Aomori Prefecture, Japan. I can't find any additional pics of these rice field art either.
- WikiEasy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Tried doing google maps, but it doesn't zoom in close enough.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Glitter Text?
- antdude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They need webcams in these areas.
- antdude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1But this was an elapsed version. Or was that shown already?
- marcgil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Simply amazing!
- shiftless, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It would be cute if this wasn't posted every single week
- mindsnare, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It's weird, but they look too fake to be fake.. know what I mean? looks like someone's just slapped an alpha picture over the top of a rice field picture. I'm certain it's real though.
- BenDoverTW, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Awesome!
- phoenixkiula, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0These are real pictures from the fields of Inakadate. Similar to the many crop circles around the world, but more...Japanese.
I think they get the colors with the three different kinds of rice.
Here's how it works, step by step-

This is the JT article (Aug '07) that broke this story to the world-
http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/fl20070826x ...
And here's the original Aomori site (Japanese)-

Many people on the web think these are fake because the backdrop in many of these pics is the same. But that's because the art is from different plantation seasons (years?). - phoenixkiula, on 12/11/2007, -0/+0These are real pictures from the fields of Inakadate. - Cyre, on 10/10/2007, -12/+1Give me the coordinates in Google Earth to see those, then I'll believe the pictures aren't shopped. There's not even an "Inakadate, Japan" in Google Earth.
