- RawShark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+107Brakes? They are fitted with brakes. Called the ball of the foot.
Who is at fault here, a company who makes a legal and harmless, legal product or the parents who buy it for their child and let him running around using it where ever he likes, even in the street?
Lawsuits are no substitute for good parenting, no matter how much it alleviates their feeling of guilt and self loathing. Yes, they should have known better. Yes, they should have been more strict. Yes, they should have said something sooner like, "don't play in traffic." That is what good, responsible, attentive parents do. - CheckMarshall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+64In any case....maybe he was pushed.
Because thats what I feel like doing to them when they roll past me nearly knocking everyone over. - rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+63Let the entire Digg community scream this at once.
"IF YOU DIDN'T WANT YOUR KIDS ON WHEELS, WHY DID YOU BUY THE SHOES?"
Scapegoating parents are the worst people on earth. - mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55RIDICULOUS.
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49It was diculous, and then, astonishingly, diculous for a second time!
- jrob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+45i definately wish i was 10 years old so i could wear those shoes
- Abatrour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35This lawsuit is ridiculous. Someone should.. put their foot down.. :P
- drmangrum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34BUT BUT BUT, It's not *MY* fault I'm a dumbass. It's the company I buy stupid crap from!
- unicornhunter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33Exactly, why don't they also have airbags? They can sue if you want...doesn't mean they will get it. I sure hope not. These people are just scumbags.
- buftar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34My sister has these stupid things. When she falls down, I point at her and laugh, because it's funny when she does.
If the parents thought their kid was in that much danger...then maybe you should not have bought shoes with wheels in them(?)
Let's sue bicycles for being hard to ride, roller blades for not giving us the innate ability to roller blade, and let's sue buses for hurting us when we walk in front of them. - rayearth42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31I know I'll get killed for this but...Learn to spell before you post.
- GraceMolloy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31Go on, pull that TV down on your head. Hurt like hell didn't it. Won't do that again -- Jeff Foxworthy
- mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28re·dic·u·lous - adj. - diculous again after having been diculous one or more times previously.
- skasks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25“In the US case, the boy was wearing his Heelys to cross a road. We’d advise against that.”
- revmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24you really need to start hanging around more girls.
- Zoctogon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Yep, it's simply ridiculous not being able to spell the word.
- Ghstfce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Not only the ball of the foot. 95% of the friggin bottom of the shoe is a brake. Rubber helps people stop. Just because you and your kid are morons doesn't mean that the company that made the product (which comes with WARNINGS about that stuff) are to be held liable. I love how people misconstrue the meaning of liable in these court proceedings. The parents are the ones liable. THEY bought the damned things, THEY read the warning, THEY allowed their kids to wear them in the places warned not to, THEY weren't watching their brats, so THEY should be the ones responsible. After all, their kids are their responsibility right?
- jimwyso, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17I'm going to sue sony for my pain and suffering of not being able to afford a PS3, or better yet I'm going to sue Nintendo(for the lack of Wiis) r for emotional distress because my friends make fun of me for not having a Wii
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14"i definately wish i was 10 years old so i could wear those shoes"
Even adults can crack open their skulls. Heely's now come in adult sizes.
http://www.heelys.com/newstyles.aspx?gender_id=1 - MrSpontaneous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Not to mention the disclaimer on the box is pretty damn scary...
"...There is no way to heel and/or grind without running the risk of SERIOUS BODILY HARM, including head injury, spinal injury, or even death." - bittie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I fell down an escalator for an hour and a half...
- rayearth42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13We have a winner.
- Steelersguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11What a novel idea.. Lets sue because we failed to read the instructions and safety tips. Why don't the parents sue themselves for purchasing the shoes for the kid? If they are going to sue using that logic, aren't they responsible for purchasing the shoes for the kid?
Damn sue happy country!! - MysticSavage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10if you really wanted a Wii so bad, a radio station was holding a contest last week...I forget how it turned out.
- yk42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8http://how-to-spell-ridiculous.com/
- kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I love lawyers and misspellings on the digg front page.
- commiecat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Wow. Made me think of one of my favorite quotes from bash.org:
" The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?"
Some people... - dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13UR TYPES BRAKED MY MIND, IT'S _Rediculous_
- xaxxon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Think "ridicule".. like "I'm ridiculing you for not knowing how to spell ridiculous."
I just hope you don't say "noone",too. - revmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8is that like being tarded, and then being tarded again?
(joke to the posts above this one) - treed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"That kid is back on the escalator again!"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9That kid deserved it.
- halik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6There need to be reprocussions for filing blately idiotic lawsuits... public shaming should be reinstated.
- john570, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Hey what do you expect. They are from New Jersey.
- tekmaktenor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm overjoyed the grocery store near me decided to ban them in the store. I wish they would do that everywhere. I can't tell you the number of times I've been nearly run over by some half brained kid on wheels.
- RealityCheque, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's spelled "ridiculous" because it comes from the root word of "ridicule".
Also, DEFINITELY is another that is always misspelled. The word "definite" is derived from the root word of "finite", which means that something has "limitations or bounds".
I know that the only people who will bother taking this information in are people that already spell these two words correctly, but I am tired of seeing them misspelled everytime. - Daemonport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Maybe I am a bad person, but every time I see kids on those things I either want to clothesline them or push them down the escalator. Now that's a real lawsuit waiting to happen.
- resplence, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8How old are you and what are you doing on digg?
- creoderiot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7unfortunately that's not such a good deal for the girls.
- mesostinky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No, your not a bad person. If you didn't have the urge to knock those kids over as that flew past you when your trying to shop then I'd think there is something wrong with you.
- antonio97b, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4At the grocery store where I work I saw a kid with those shoes with wheels run smack into a display stand full of glass candles.
I didn't say anything to the parents because I figure Darwin will work itself out in a few years. - mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Every ***** time I see retarded little brats in those stupid things I think the same ***** thing,
when is some irresponsible parent going to sue because their kid fell down while motoring around the grocery store. I guess the time has now come, minus the grocery store.
Too bad the parent wasn't hit by the car. - uberdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Submitter should kill self for spelling error.
- Blisshead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Shoes, they make him fall down. Where is Agador Spartacus when you need him....
- tetraelement, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I actually have a pair, and before you put on the shoes, to open the box there is a sticker that says something to the effect of: by removing this sticker I understand and agree with the fact that Heely's is not responsible for any misuse or incidents occurring with this product.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6those shoes are retarded. The parents should be sued for wasting money on stupid *****.
- Shawnosaurus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wish the parents could be shown this thread of comments. I would love to see what they think of the Digg-public's opinion of their jackassery cash grab. I'd like also to be the judge so I could say, "Yea, your ignorant selfishness is way up here, and your common sense parenting skills are way down here. We're going to need you to work on those. Oh yea, and you owe this court $25k for wasting our time. Kthxbye."
- aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If the wheels failed and your kids got hurt, then there might be grounds to sue. But this is just idiotic. Do you see people suing skateboard companies or bicycle companies because people fall down and get hurt?
- Danryan1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6real funny ritard
- Rabbethan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4II used to work at The Sports Authority selling these things. It was horrible, but it always felt worth it when one of the older kids fell on their ass on a test run.
