- topherbook, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Super mushrooms are real?! Good lord! This means that there really might be a turtle-dragon-lizard capturing princesses and moving them around from castle to castle! And if we eat the right flowers we can shoot fireballs from our hands! DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE IMPLICATIONS?!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Uh, the link is on the article YOU posted!
- Ledbelly, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17So if I eat this I'll grow double in size?

- mrdeez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9It's muscimol in amanitas, not psilocin analogues
- RedHairedMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9No, but you'll certainly think you did.
- ausfahrt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Psilocybin is NOT addictive.
- tehgoatman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8There's no psilocybin in amanitas :P

- acidkore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"The active ingredient is excreted in the urine of those consuming the mushrooms, and it has sometimes been the practice for a shaman to consume the mushrooms, and the rest of the tribe to drink his urine: the shaman, in effect, partially detoxifying the drug (the sweat- and twitch-causing muscarine is absent in the urine). This was also not an uncommon practice in Siberia, where the poor would consume the urine of the wealthy, who could afford to buy the mushrooms. If a fly agaric is eaten, it is usually not fresh, but in its dried or cooked form, where ibotenic acid is converted to the more stable and far less poisonous muscimol."
Also: Talk to anyone who has tried these before and watch their face go white with fear. - oxdeltaxo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It'sa poisonous.

- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3anticholinergic deliriants are quite dangerous actually. these are not like typical psychedelic mushrooms which contain psilocybin, a tryptamine which is relatively safe and belonging to the same class of traditional psychedelics as LSD, mescaline, MDMA (ecsasy), LSA, 2c-e, 2c-b, 2c-i, other 2c-* analogs, 5meo-dipt (foxy methoxy), AMT, DMT, etc.
amanita muscaria is more closely related to drugs like dramamine and benadryl, which have the same effects when taken in large doses, and also jimson weed/Datura, belladonna (deadly nightshade), mandrake, henbane and other poisonous plants.
it's rare, but anticholinergic agents can potentially cause seizures and death. regardless, deliriants are inherently dangerous because it's like having a high fever. you're not thinking straight, you have vivid hallucinations that you can't tell apart from reality, and people ingesting deliriants often find themselves in the emergency room or a psych ward when they come to. it's very very easy to hurt yourself on a deliriant.
besides, the physical effects of anticholinergic agents are awful. your body overheats, you feel very uncomfortable and confused, you drool a lot and your short-term memory is completely obliterated (you'll get up to do something and forget what it was by the time you get up). i really can't understand how anyone could enjoy this type of experience. i, myself, and everyone else i know who's done it has regretted the decision because of the terrible experiences they've had.

- Otto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Watch closer, he's actually blowing the fireballs out of one nostril.
Yeah, that ruins your childhood memories, doesn't it? ;) - oxdeltaxo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's a good reason to avoid mushrooms that look like this.

http://www.favoritepart.com/Default.aspx?img=784&a ... - elscorcho717, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Even though neither amanitas nor any psilocybes are physically addictive, some people will use them more often than they themselves are comfortable with because of psychological dependence.
- phlanx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3There aren't entirely hallucinogenic. I have eaten them, they are legal and you can easily buy them online. The problem is, like most mushrooms, they are inconsistent in strength. They are fairly toxic as well. Imagine your body being drunk beyond belief and your mind relatively normal. You stagger a lot and walk into things, fall down, and can't really feel any of it. That is sort of what it is like. Not all that fun. If can even cause mild convulsions. There are much better mushrooms to munch than these. Check erowid for more information before doing anything: http://www.erowid.org/plants/amanitas/amanitas.sht ...
- energizerrabbit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2SWIM has tried them, and it is all in the person's control ability, SWIM didn't have their face go white with fear, but yes, it is very easy to slip into horror.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2it's not hallucinogenic in the same sense as traditional psychedelics like acid, mescaline, or the type of magic mushrooms commonly consumed (psilocybin mushrooms). typical "hallucinogens" just give you perceptual distortions. you're still connected to reality, just seeing it in a different light and your mind perceives lots of patterns. this is full blown hallucinations.
this is more like a deliriant such as dramamine/benadryl, datura/jimson weed, deadly nightshade/belladonna, and other poisonous plants. you will not trip on them the same way you do on magic mushrooms. instead, it's like having a really high fever to the point you are delirious and you can't tell reality apart from your imagination.
having done anticholinergic deliriants like amanita muscaria before, i can tell you that it's very unpleasant and i guarantee that you will not enjoy the experience. your body overheats, your short-term memory vanishes and you can't even remember what you were thinking of a few seconds ago, and you'll generally be in a lot of physical discomfort.
deliriants are also dangerous because you have full-blown hallucinations that you can't tell aren't real. during my experience, i would blink or close my eyes, and it'd be like my eyelids were transparent. you really can't tell what's real and what's not, and that's why it's very easy for someone to hurt themselves on these type of drugs. - pheedback, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Smurfs!

This guy's got it right. - ultraelite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1although mushrooms aren't effective for a few days after you have taken them (at least 3 days for any effects to personally about 2-4 weeks before full effects ) because your body builds a tolerance to them really fast but you also loose that tolerance really fast.
- InsaneOni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1First off, who hasn't already made this conclusion? It's kinda obvious that Mario is eating psychoactive mushrooms. Also, until recently (the late 90's) all forms of magic mushrooms were legal in Japan (one of the only legal drugs) and this could have attributed to their inclusion in Mario since they were not considered an illegal drug.
For the record:
Psilocybe Cubensis > Amanita Muscaria - PolishSausage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well actually Amanita phalloides is known as the death cap and if your friends ate that they wouldn't be alive today... You obviously know nothing about mushrooms so don't act like you do. I agree that people shouldn't eat amanita muscaria unless they know what they are doing though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_cap - 30thElement, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2God I love wikipedia. At the bottom of the article is a list of all of the psychedelic mushrooms.
- Husvik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That mushroom is a plague where I live. I do not recommend eating it.
- pleiadianagenda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If anyone wants to know more about the history of the amanita muscaria mushroom throughout all cultures and religions, you can watch an amazing three hour lecture here. Most will be surprised to see how many cultures and beliefs include this hallucinogen.

"You've collected Amanita" - scrimaxinc, on 10/20/2007, -0/+1Good info. Not sure if you'll check this because it's been forever, but just to better understand your stance on recreational use - have you ever eaten a psilocybin mushroom and had an enjoyable experience?
- DDRSkata, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Amanita muscaria. I heard they're an interesting experience. Increased physical strength and what not. Viking berserkers used to take them before pillaging.
- Mr_Gamehelper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Don't worry, that comes after you eat the shroom.
- FoxMcCloud1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Also known as a death cap. Had some friends try to cook this ***** up regardless of my advice and got sick as hell. Dumb asses trying to get high by reading some hippie book about it and following some boiling procedure bla bla. Idiots. Do not mess with the death cap mushroom any of you. Have a nice day.
- jetcombo15, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Amanitas are still hallucinogenic, but they're no psilocybin mushrooms (the real psychedelic shrooms).
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1but it doesn't tell you where you can get them : (

(fwiw) Here is a picture I took of a fungus in Northern California:
http://www.flyingsnail.com/images/Ranch/fungus.jpg
Dr. Dave Rizzo, U.C. Davis told me it was a Laetiporus sulphureus, Chicken-of-the-Woods fungus
The source page is: http://www.flyingsnail.com/Scrapbook/page006.html - whiteyMcBrown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I saw some of these in Amsterdam. They were on the list of mushrooms you could buy at a cafe. It's pretty crazy, if you've never been. In the cafe I went to, they have a list of like 15 different mushrooms, and next to each is a star rating of intensity and description of its effects.
- republicker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1BESERKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
- ultraelite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1meh, I've tried it but wasn't really that impressed although I only had a 1/4 ounce of the cooked mushroom. I would describe it as mostly a mental trip, didn't have any visuals.
As a matter of fact the time I tried it cops got involved, busted one of my friends for having over 40 ounces of weed. But having not smoked or drank that night I didn't get in any trouble. -
