- cafzal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43What mental cases... the RIAA, that is.
- qwickone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34The point is, there's no respect for the maneuver, whether it's legal or not. Technically right and actually right are not the same thing. Sure what the RIAA is doing is technically right, but morally, hell no. It's not like anyone ever accused them of being moral anyway...
- SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Don't hurt people, hurt RIAA employees, they aren't people like the rest of us and are expendable
- Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Absolutely. When a person's sole indicator of morality is legality, things are bad. Laws do not and should never legislate morals. They should protect the public, nothing else.
- OYAHHH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Somebody,
Simply needs to create a download_mp3.exe virus that infects every machine it can, sets up it's own P2P network, downloads popular tunes.
Then people could legitimately say they were infected by the "download_mp3.exe" virus as a defense..... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+28RIAA is evil & will sue grannies, underage children, and infirm out of house and home. Not news.
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I wish I could sue them for: Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Ashlee Simpson, The Black Eyed Peas, Evan and Jaaron, Robyn, every ***** one-hit wonder ever made, Rob Thomas, etc. etc.
The RIAA and the Clearchannel have probably caused years of psychological damage as well as noise pollution by promoting these artists.
Record Industry Embarrassment of America - Please go chew on glass. - cstu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Who else used to buy music until the RIAA started suing everyone? I used to buy CD's even while I was downloading music, but I refuse to support the RIAA's greed. Now I support the artists I like by watching them live and buy merch - they make more from that than CD's anyway.
- daeyeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15...anyone else just get really pissed off after reading anything to do with RIAA? i feel like punching a wall right now. i wish there a way to block anything related to RIAA...just so i wouldn't get pissed off and feel like punching the next person that talks to me. makes me look bad
- shadgenki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Yeah, you've got MENTAL problems, man.
Seriously though. Everyone should stop buying music. It's obvious that RIAA companies are the only ones that win, and if everyone did it then they'd be forced to change their business plan. Simply go to more concerts, since that's the only way bands make any money anyway. - Feanor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14"a friend of Robert has incriminated him." If that was my friend I would beat him senseless.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12They can't sue the people who are doing them the most harm. Who ever heard of someone suing themselves? Piracy isn't hurting their sales anywhere near as badly as overcharging and riddling the music with DRM.
- horizonsonfire, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15...and feasts on the blood of puppies.
- Louis11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I wonder how many RIAA employees have downloaded music illegally... I'm sure there's plenty, we should file suit :-)
- mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I want her SUED!
I want her family SUED!
I want her house TAKEN BY THE FEDS!
- Al Capone, MAFIAA - cell00, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Too bad, please try again... (loser?!)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11The funny thing is, the RIAA mostly prosecute people who aren't doing most of the damage anyway. You don't hear them ganging up on groups that sell pirated media, do you?
- Sazzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If they want to sue a 20 year old fine... but to sue a 16 year old? *That* is simply despicable.
- Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I've considered this quite a few times. If only I knew how...
- Lax32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I have a feeling that they are going to falter somewhere.
I am no lawyer, but I would imagine that they are going to run into problems for first suing the mother for the crimes of the child, then suing the children themselves.
The thing is though, they are digging their own grave. All they have to do is get the interest of one major lawyer who is going to put all of his money and firms resources into taking the RIAA down because he wants to make a name for himself. Its pretty common, lawyers have been known to take cases that they think can bring their name into the spotlight. With the RIAA going around using absolutely brutal tactics, the laywer that ends up taking them down is going to be an instant celebrity.
Remember that guy who was going to go after the RIAA for trying to set variable prices for songs, and got an immediate burst of popularity? Perfect example. - detroitsux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This is a new low. But expected.
Next, they'll be threatening to burn orphans if the casual pirates won't stop. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6litigation: an action made out of desperation from a dying or obsolete company .
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think links to Wierd Al's Don't download this song would be appropriate over here.

Exactly what are they trying to prove with these indescriminate lawsuits? Are they really that desparate that they need to infringe on individual people to prove a point? No matter how mute and silent that point actually is. I think I'm about to punch that wall with you.
You would think that large institutions like the RIAA would have some sort of... I dunno... higher infustructure in order to like, I dunno, find an intelligent way to solve a problem. But this is like a apple stand vender going into people's homes and citizen arresting everybody that once stole apples from him. Which that isn't even an apt example because downloading isn't theft. Sheesh.
Their attacks is only strengthening the availability of downloads. Just like what happened with Napster, after it was taken down, there was a boom in peer 2 peer downloading. I see there being another boom such as that in a little while. - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Thank the greater beings I'm Canadian.
- general13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Your country, sir, has a ridiculous 'media tax' on blank CD-R's.
I dust my gloves in your general direction. - wozley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow, that's pretty sad.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sounds like the work of the.....
Music And Film Industry Association of America
(For those who didn't know, the riaa and mpaa merged into MAFIAA)
For more information about the merge visit the MAFIAA site at http://www.mafiaa.org/ - dargon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5don't you mean RIAA - Recording Industry Asshats of America?
- returntosilence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Canadian Company sues the RIAA:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/27/nettwerk_sues_riaa/
Wonder what happened in this case.. - rogueifer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it seems as if the riaa's case is based upon biased statements and vauge details. ruling for the defendant!
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4bribery is an illegal thing
and greed corrupts people to do stupid things - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Just FYI, all the things I mentioned have actually happened.
- Keitosha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What does the RIAA do anyway?
All i can think of is money grinding. :/
Sounds like some chinese WoW goldfarmers to me.
BAN the bastards! - Odalisque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2With your hands on ya head, or on the trigger on your Gun???
they can crush us, they can shoot us, but they have to answer to... - funkspiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When they kick at your front door How you gonna come?
- personx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Look this is how it works, the RIAA is making so much money off these "blackmail-settlement" lawsuits that they are now behind the pirate organizations to keep shelling out "illegal" files.
They no longer care at all what you have been doing, whether it is legal or not. This is their revenue stream!!!
Is it really that difficult for you to figure out??? I have seen these people laughing their asses off in their meetings. The judges and various political parties are being handed money under the table to keep the whole thing going. I'm not saying all judges are corrupt but there are many.
This is how it is people. Only those with more money will keep making money.
The only way behavior like this will ever end:
As history has shown through rising and falling of civilizations of the past; if a society gets enough of a mass of common people (who finally realize whats going on) to commence revolutionary/civil war to overthrow the greedy/powerhungry.
Don't wish to believe this? Go ahead and keep being led like mindless cattle you currently are. - ByteGuerilla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Not to mention they'll be the first with their backs to the wall once the Revolution comes.
- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9From what I've observed, people like you (who have a lot of front paged stories) now require A LOT more diggs to get to the front page. It's pretty annoying.
- brianbowden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If everyone mobilized and didn't buy cd's that are in the RIAA's jurisdiction then hopefully it would send a message. Everyone can make a difference.
$1=1 vote - koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7You're right, IvanB.
If anyone wants to know: http://digg.com/tech_news/Digg_to_Top_Users_QUIT_NOW - davy2002a, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well I think they've gone far enough, one day the RIAA will do this to someone, and then that someone will cause considerable damage to there business and there computer systems, possibly financial too, I for one believe it is time to make an organization against the RIAA, call it "Unity Against RIAA"
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Notice the '2' at the end of that link? That means that you dugg dupe! There is another story with THAT EXACT SAME NAME!!!!!!!! Quit whining when people digg dupes.
- tsteele93, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Seems like a no-brainer to me, but IANAL - shouldn't the kids plead guilty (this is a civil case, not criminal so no harm done) and then promptly file bankruptcy?
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When in a discussion about/regarding/with the RIAA, rationality is out the window.
- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How was it a dupe if I posted it before he did?
:
Calling me a loser. That's cute too. Doesnt your mom need to change your diaper? - RatTrap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Down with the ***** RIAA!!!!!!This they will do any thing for money those bastards.
- SushiDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0RIAA Has problems and really shouldn't exist... but that is just funny.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1And when you think the RIAA can't sink any lower....
