- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -5/+182The RIAA isn't after money. They feed on souls....
- KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14725 April 2006
- chuckpenzone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+83I think this guy is guilty, I read in another article that the song in question got stuck in his head and he told a few people about it. That's when the RIAA pounced. His brain didn't have the right to replay that record over and over.
- dpinkston, on 10/12/2007, -4/+68This is BS. ***** the RIAA. However I am slightly scared of em.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+64The title of the category is "News", people.
Come on. - eatbeefjerky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58I'm waiting for the RIAA to start suing Amish people...
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -27/+83Eh sorry, bury this reply
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+58well maybe you shouldn't have built your log cabin in THAT forest...
- antifreeze11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53i think the point is that it doesn't matter where you get your files, they are just sueing random people.
- snakesonasam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+49really any surprises here, you can live in a log cabin in the middle of some forest with no eclectricity and still get sued
- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42I think you just summed up everyone's feelings in that short to the point comment.
- RiverBelow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28***** the RIAA
- R3PUBLIC0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24I'm going to beat a dead horse here and say that maybe if their music didn't suck, people would pay for it. Or, at least for the music that doesn't suck, if online stores actually had them in a higher quality audio format. Or if the industry itself come off as less than demonic. Or if 99% of music stores weren't corporate voids of customer service. Or if the entire music chain of distribution didn't treat their customers as swine.
I don't pirate music. I just stopped listening to theirs. - irrationalman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+27@JCSaint
so the RIAA is made up of women? - arbulus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I suggest people stop trying to push txtish as though it's a real language. you're not on a phone, you have a keyboard in front of you - spell your damn words out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25I suggest ppl start using IRC.
- 1337director, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16interesting, as probably any american household with a teenager has had illegal files downloaded over their connection, statistically, the RIAA really can't go wrong with a completely random subpoena, yet somehow, the RIAA keeps on suing grandmas, paralyzed people and people who don't have an IP address...
- TheChihuahua, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I suggest *certain* people start using vowels.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18and i suggest that people stop saying ppl.
i dont think either of us will get what we want.
(i use DC & BT) - Puttockc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17!!!!NEWS FLASH!!!!!!
RIAA sues Christopher Columbus
The statement reads that he brought over 2 tons of bootleg Cd's to the Americas and Distributed them among the natives.
in a Related article, RIAA attempts to sent Cease and Desist Letters regarding File sharing to the following people in no particular order:
Abraham, Ceaser, Mark (of the book of mark), Beethoven, Achilles, Zeus, Cleopatra and The Sphinx. - PopcornDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15@oghr
Yeah, for pirating copies of The Who's Tommy. - Ahnteis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14>>If you have an IP Address, RIAA will sue you!
Apparently you don't even need an IP address. - KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14@corneliusjd Knaves using Bittorrent to pirate their music! Really, where did they go to school, Yale? Us of the nobility know how to steal our music with so much more class. Now where did my high society porn and video games go?
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I heard they sued the Taliban and when they heard that the Taliban had outlawed music, they were really embarrased.
- calvmari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I download it to see what I'm buying. I wouldn't buy a car unless I test drove it, I don't want to buy a CD unless I've heard the songs.
- Shockerusa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9If you have an IP Address, RIAA will sue you!
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+930trip:
You probably should read the last, summarizing, sentence in a comment before you go off on an angry rant against it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Thats exactly what they want.
They seem to believe that if people are scared enough they will stop sharing music and videos. - chuckpenzone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Quick - someone get Tom Cruise to pull the precog out of that weird bathtub
- Depthfunction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Slow news year, then.
- andyrobo60, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I cant say i didn't see this coming (see my comment on this)
http://digg.com/tech_news/Can_the_RIAA_call_your_boss - Shmock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7***** THE RIAA
- Ajajadude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7In the grand scheme of things, that's just as bad, if not worse. The RIAA is just doling out lawsuits left and right without even bothering to make sure they're suing the right people.
If ANYONE in this country were to sue someone in this same manner, the courts would tear them a new one. The RIAA does it, it's business as usual and the courts let it go. It's ridiculous and I hope this family had the good sense to turn around and counter-sue for defamation of character (among other things). - Arcan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Wikipedia + Research Paper = :-(
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The answer is simple, they sue people at random, seeing as everyone copies or downloads music. ***** THE RIAA. Music survived the first round of wax duplicators, tape format, 8 track, CD and DVD. Why now have they declared war on their customers.
I hope in the end, EVERY record company that is part of the RIAA goes broke and artists just upload their songs to web sites where we pay 50 cents per song and every penny goes to the ARTIST. that would be ***** wicked.
***** YOU RIAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!! - coit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ andyrobo60:
I saw it coming too! I read this almost a year ago. - ArchonSG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Even if this new is almost a year old, one has to wonder why is it that the RIAA and other related AAs aren't slapped with the RICO act yet? I mean if this isn't mob like / mafia like extortion what is?
- Ajajadude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ummm, many people buy pirated copies of music, movies, and software. Apparently you haven't been paying attention.
- r3m1x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I can't wait for next week's Offbeat News headline:
"RIAA TO SUE NINTENDO FOR LOOPING WII SHOP CHANNEL MUSIC" - ghostlywind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They probably have a giant wall with everyone in the united states name and they throw random darts and then sue them.
- Djchicken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm no longer afraid to pirate my music.
- theGOG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6the riaa is the goatse of *****
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"I download it to see what I'm buying. I wouldn't buy a car unless I test drove it, I don't want to buy a CD unless I've heard the songs."
Exactly. That's why I skim magazines at the store before I buy them, which I usually do. What moron buys a box without knowing what's inside? - SpikeX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@amunimanghi:
Not necessarily, Google resizes results based on resolution. It was the rightmost for me.
Either way, I think you meant this:
http://www.miraesoft.com/karel/images/riaa.jpg - Leathersoup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"However, pirated sales of our members' recordings topped $4.6bn in 2004."
So did they get that number based off of the amount of music that has been pirated by the dead, paralyzed, and people without computers? Makes you wonder what that value actually is... - bioskope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dont you have school tomorrow morning?
- ultrahombre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3pretty soon its gonna be the world versus the RIAA if they keep this up I cant wait for that day guess which I side im on.
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The ISP gave the address that the IP was assigned to at the "time of infringement". The RIAA looked up the address and sent the lawsuit to the current occupant, who is actually a different family.
- GrantTheGr8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@zybch: Indeed. The RIAA are terrorists.
