- michaelpinto, on 01/26/2009, -7/+94So why do they assume that the UFOs are hostile?
- Tyrghast, on 01/28/2009, -16/+85Buried.
On any given day, 5 of the top 10 articles are from the Telegraph, Huffington Post or Daily Mail. Stop giving these garbage websites ad revenue. - inactive, on 01/28/2009, -7/+75Pew pew pew
- h0ser, on 01/27/2009, -5/+57all i know is that if you kill a bee close to its hive, its friends will come and sting the ***** out of you.
- EetFuk, on 01/26/2009, -3/+49So will they be UOs then?
- mattyk123, on 01/28/2009, -4/+45Two words: Anal Probing.
- jjc5004, on 01/28/2009, -1/+35if they are identified after being shot down, they will just be O's
- hyankov, on 01/28/2009, -0/+32UFO = Unidentified Flying Object. Not necessarily aliens.
- appleofdischord, on 01/28/2009, -14/+45I'm becoming so tired of people who still think there is a cover up.
- aphexcoil, on 01/28/2009, -6/+36Shooting at something that possesses the technology to travel light-years to your planet may not be the smartest tactical move.
- dementedd, on 01/28/2009, -3/+29dugg dugg dugg dugg
- GlassAgate, on 01/26/2009, -3/+28"They don't exist, which means that we can't get in trouble
because we aren't trying to shoot something down. All that
can happen is that we can get yelled at for is wasting ammo."
-Some Suit. - Harabeck, on 01/28/2009, -0/+25Well they certainly don't assume they are alien. So what they see is some sort of craft that doesn't have permission to be there, that would make it hostile if it's within certain airspace zones.
- Legollama, on 01/28/2009, -1/+25no, still UFOs: Unidentified Falling Objects.
- rmxz, on 01/28/2009, -1/+25For a more serious answer, they probably concluded that UFOs are more likely to be unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of foreign intel agencies spying on them, rather than space aliens.
- monkeymad2, on 01/28/2009, -1/+24"At least half a dozen residents reported seeing the orange-yellow spheres, which some witnesses claimed were trailing tentacles."
He's come to touch us with his noodley appendices!! :D
Praise be to FSM!!
Ramen. - MelvinSchlubman, on 01/27/2009, -1/+24> "There was a faction in the MoD who said 'We want to shoot down a UFO and that will resolve the issue one way or another'," he told The Sun.
What's wrong with this logic? - atarijedi, on 01/28/2009, -5/+28UFO != ET Spacecraft
- centran, on 01/28/2009, -2/+23Anyone flying in your airspace is to be considered hostile if they don't identify themselves.
- sockpuppets, on 01/28/2009, -5/+25Maybe they just think the crew is tasty. Possibly from planet Calamari.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -6/+24"it has been claimed."
and there you have it. - TexMexRex, on 01/28/2009, -0/+18The guy in the video is a UFO nut-ball who is paid to say moronic stuff. It's how he makes his living. He has no knowledge of RAF rules of engagement other than what he has read in a few Tom Clancy novels. It is people like him who prevent mainstream science from putting any effort toward Alien life. It makes you a joke.
The article makes no connection to the RAF stuff and the wind turbine. - sockpuppets, on 01/28/2009, -0/+16I see a line of yetis at McDonalds every day, you mean I'm allowed to kill one of them?
- soze1, on 01/28/2009, -0/+16UFO expert huh...where does one obtain these credentials.
- sq2shooter, on 01/28/2009, -0/+15True but if you decide to shoot and kill any bigfoot or yeti you come across, you pretty much don't have to worry about its family coming to hunt you down.
- BCPneumatics, on 01/28/2009, -1/+14If the Flying Object is Unidentified, how do you know it comes from space? It seems that would take... identification.
- twiztidsinz, on 01/28/2009, -3/+16<comment removed by the MoD.>
- dooms13, on 01/28/2009, -1/+14haven't you ever seen independence day?
- digitalpencil, on 01/28/2009, -0/+12The fact that they are quoting 'the Sun'?
- chudgoo, on 01/28/2009, -2/+14not sure why you're being dugg down, but there is nothing in the term "unidentified flying object" that mandates that it be aliens or any kind of advanced tech/life.
A basketball thrown at earth from orbit would be a UFO if you didn't know that it's a basketball. "Unidentified" just means you know what it is... not alien space craft. - AmyVernon, on 01/26/2009, -19/+31I for one welcome our new alien overlords.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+12Thankfully our attempts to attack them with primitive chemically propelled ballistic weapons are found amusing rather than threatening.
- Ramble, on 01/28/2009, -2/+13Because they destroyed a wind turbine.
- treas, on 01/28/2009, -4/+15UAV Online.
- Harabeck, on 01/28/2009, -2/+12Military sees unauthorized craft on radar in secure airspace, military tries to make contact, no reply, military tries to shoot it down because it's in secure airspace. Sounds pretty logical to me actually.
- GhostToon, on 01/28/2009, -3/+13@sockpuppets
Eww you eat McDonalds? - iamcommie, on 01/28/2009, -0/+9Does the military have rules of engagement for gargoyles? What about fairies? Gremlins? Leprechauns?
- danj484, on 01/28/2009, -0/+9I wondered that too, then I read the article:
FTA: "...the RAF only attempted to engage when the mysterious objects were perceived to be a threat." - BESTenemy, on 01/28/2009, -1/+9 From a purely logical perspective (regardless of whether UFO's exist or not), what are the 2 types of weapons we have developed and implemented throughout the centuries of our barbaric development? 1. Projectile weapons (guns) - firing mass at another mass. 2. Energy weapons - nukes and various explosives.
If you were an object traveling through space from distant planets or galaxies to reach the Earth the first two things you would encounter and have to deal with are: 1. Mass - space debris, comets, asteroids and other physical bodies presenting proportionally bigger threat with increasing velocity of travel. 2. Energy - solar radiation of various types and intensities, unshielded by planetary magnetic fields for the duration of the trip.
Don't you think that the first thing the UFO's would be perfectly immune to are projectile and energy weapons, through the fact of them being able to get to our planet from far away? I think that if a hostile race were to actually reach us, that off the bat would pretty much imply us being ***** out of luck. - dlllb, on 01/28/2009, -0/+8I love words that, when read, make a sound in my head.
- grantmoore3d, on 01/28/2009, -0/+8You have to send $25 to the ad in the comic book.
- sjbdallas, on 01/28/2009, -0/+8It would appear the British Empire does not.
- BigCheezy, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7Disclosure. I love how you capitalize that. It makes it seem kind of like Judgment Day.
- Zuljin, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7This is perfectly reasonable. The RAF isn't saying "omg aliens lets get um" they're saying "if there's an unidentified aircraft in our airspace that won't communicate with us, we'll shoot it". It's perfectly reasonable and pretty standard.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -2/+9Indeed. Just goes to show how amazingly stupid, unintelligent and uneducated most people are. Even on digg.
- Yage2006, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7lol @ the telegraph such a rag.
- coolwalking, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7I've thought about this. It would kind of suck, wouldn't it? If we're the advanced ones, that means we never get to experience that "OMFG aliens!! They can teach us about their cool laser/warp drive/etc. tech!!" moment. It'll just be "scientists have discovered some more bacteria in the delta quadrant *yawn*".
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+61. Wait until morning
2. Don't ask don't tell
3. Don't feed them after midnight, avoid water
4. Steal pot of gold, get wishes - ZeroDarkness, on 01/28/2009, -0/+6Especially if you consider there is no way to know how much more advanced they are than us. We have nukes... what could a civilization that's 100,000 years more advanced have? 1,000,000 years?
- dieboldcracy, on 01/28/2009, -1/+7Close Encounters aliens were nice aliens....cute little guys.....a very musical bunch.
