- PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+141Idiocracy indeed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+139Er, there's a difference between killing someone and never creating that person in the first place.
- astatine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+127A Fox News article that cites the Daily Mail? Somewhere, I hear a barrel being scraped.
- Somniis, on 10/12/2007, -10/+124Thanks for contributing to an already over-populated world, little girl!
- kirkio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+97... next up on Maury...
- aschocobo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+89Mankind, why did you even bother linking to that short synopsis? why not just go to the full source of the story?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=438036&in_page_id=1770 - JimmyDushku, on 10/12/2007, -2/+85There's no way these kids can't afford a damn condom.
- Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+77You know the most screwed up part of it all is most of the parents think oh yeah I'll take care of the baby and once it comes time for it, they leave the kid with their parents or grand parents and they go clubbing every night of the week while the kid is staying home! I know so many people like that even until this day! They leave their kid or kids home and they go clubbing or out at night drinking partying with their friends. It's unbelievable and sad. They should have realized that they would have to pretty much give that up and learn to care for a child instead of going out partying, coming home hung over and then forcing the child's responsibilities onto their parents or grand parents.
- dig412, on 10/12/2007, -4/+80You should also never, ever trust anything said by someone called 'Kizzy Neal'.
- barryiggins, on 10/12/2007, -5/+77@offender
actually this has very little to do with religion, particularly the lowest-common-denominator type of which you speak--assumes all humans are mere sheep that must be directed by an ultimate authority in order to live well.
IMO, this is more about kids being unable to connect with their own personal power, which relies on having creative outlets. Art, music, DIY tech, even sports, etc.--these things allow kids to step back and say "Wow, I actually MADE this", and in turn they feel a sense of control over there lives, and a deeper sense of personal identity, which is way more valuable than the identity that comes from being a sheep.
Without power and identity, I can see why little girls want to go get knocked up and little boys want to go shoot up schools or join gangs. Its lowest-common-denominator desperation to wrestle back some control over their lives. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+80You mean the religion that discourages the use of condoms?
Yeah. That'll help this problem. - dfnk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+68"Neal says she got pregnant the first time she had sex with her 13-year-old boyfriend."
Oh, God, no. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+56Yeah, that's the thing people don't seem to understand about teen pregnancy - a lot of times, teenagers aren't worried about preventing pregnancy because they actually WANT to be pregnant, as crazy as that sounds. And who could blame 'em, considering the amount of attention one gets when one is expecting? The thing is, I have no idea how one would go about trying to prevent this kind of thing, other than I guess convincing them how bad an idea it is to have a baby so young.
- Bhima, on 10/12/2007, -12/+62This isn't new... As long as I've been paying attention to the news kids have been doing this, so I'd bet they were doing it before.
Oh and offender... nice nick, it fits the ***** you spew.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+48It's because we got rid of all the wolves. Used to be a dumbass would get picked off, now they get welfare.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+56I have no problem with the sex, I have a problem with the attitude that there's no point to life other than pumping out babies. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but it just seems sad. Just seems like everybody's just stopped caring about anything anymore.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+52Morals existed long before your religion ever did.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45Just what the hell are you talking about? 'Course I'm in the safe zone, but if I weren't, it really wouldn't matter, would it? I mean, there is a limitless number of "people" out there who fall into that category of not existing. Am I going to spend the rest of my life regretting that hypothetical people like Philip Dickinson from Columbus, Ohio were never even conceived? And it's a shame, too, 'cause he would've been a Nobel Peace Prize winner. And what about his parents, who were also never even conceived? I could go on all day like this.
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41.....Since when?? Certainly not in my high school. What an ignorant bitch. How does she expect to support the child?
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -14/+50I WANT THESE SKANK-ASS SLUTS OF MY ***** EARTH!
No, seriously, ***** these girls (in the metaphorical sense - they don't need anymore real sex, obviously). - flameboy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+46This is *****. It is another fear-mongering report from Fox News attempting to scare parents. Teen pregnancy is no more "fashionable" than it has ever been. Just look at the story, all it does is quote one retarded 14 year old in Britain and conclude that getting pregnant is the new cool thing. Please dont buy into this crap.
- bIuebonics, on 10/12/2007, -7/+41"atheism at it's heart believes that there is no higher law, and so no moral code for humans."
you might want to rethink that. i'll assume by "higher law" you're referring to mandates from god. from this and your statement you've concluded that a moral code from humans must be dictated from god. therefore, without a belief in god, there is no moral code for humans. for some reason, you fail to have the thought that humans are not capable of determining their own morals. you also seem to think that not murdering or commiting adultery are a source from the christian religion. this is also inherently flawed, for one thing, it's in the old testament where the 10 commandments are listed. to assume that morals are derived solely from christianity is to disregard all prior cultures and religions (including the religion in which christianity is founded on and where it obtained its own moral code from). - OleumSerpentis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36Once upon a time, only the strongest, most clever and resourceful people got to pass on their genes...
Now the morons are popping out babies like rabbits and studies show that the number of children DECREASES with increased income and education...
Where will this lead us? - S201, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39I literally read this with my mouth open amazed at how stupid people are. Being 15, I hear this kind of stuff every day from my school and occasionally hearing talk that someone in my school got pregnant. It's nothing new. But what amazed me was that fact that those four girls got pregnant on purpose. I can't understand it in any way.
- iomegaboy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38This is so ***** up on so many levels.
- subxero37, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34It's really sad, but it's true. I would say, on average, there are at least 45 pregnant teens at my school (of a total of ~700 girls.) Most of them do, in fact, get special treatment from the school district. They attend fewer, shorter classes, and end up having more credits at graduation than even some people taking Advanced Placement classes. That, my fellow Diggers, is sad. It's almost giving them a reason to conceive.
- Detritus, on 10/12/2007, -15/+48This is truly amazing... no not the article, this is garbage... what is amazing is tabloid circulation and reaction.
Step #1: Fox News picks up a story from another Tabloid
Step #2: ???
Step #3: offender offends us all by insisting that we must submit ourselves to his God's moral system because we are entirely incapable of behaving ourselves.
No wonder Fox News is the leading cable news outlet. It must be so fun to be so angry and righteous at the same time. Really gets the hormones flowing! I bet it must feel great.
Unfortunately that sort of primal behavior of gravitating to what feels good and not thinking too much about it is what we call "childish", as in: Your statement here is no less childish than this kid having babies. - realyst, on 10/12/2007, -12/+41@offender:
You are correct. By following the teaching of Christ, you are far less likely to get pregnant at 13. You are much more likely to sodomize an alter boy instead.
(before anyone diggs me down, I know it's a generalization, but I figured I'd fight an ignorant generalization with another one). - freakshow7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/02_02/kizzyDM230207_400x625.jpg
- rholloway, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30@ksponge
Actually, society at large are the one's who live with their poor decisions. They just sit back and cash the checks. - saska, on 10/12/2007, -4/+31I'm a good person because it pays to be a good person in THIS life, not because I hope it'll pay off in the NEXT life.
I'd say that makes my moral foundation more solid. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+42Where do i sign up to help these kids be more fashionable?
- qber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Considering you guys "invented the language," you should know it's weather, not whether.
- theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Dude.. she's 14.
- freakon, on 10/12/2007, -10/+34Gigity-Gigity-Gigity AWWWW-RITE!!!
Score one for Quagmire! - blkhwk86, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Just buy a ***** vibrator if you wanna have sex. Have fun living live in a council estate.
If you think having a kid is fashionable, try "do you want fries with that?" That's really the fashionable thing. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28When you combine this with the reports that they were smoking purposely while pregnant under that assumption that smaller babies (premature) would do less damage and cause less pain to their smaller bodies, things are looking bleak.
Apparently, many of them do this because they will get a pension from the government, they can also appply for council housing. All of englands working population pay for all of this, and they will pay for these childrens' kids as they grow too.
I don't see the British population lasting much longer, our next generation is largely going to be weak, frail, children who are raised by children. Not the group you'd expect to put up a good fight if you wanted to overthrow their culture.
I'd hate for some solution to have to be forced on people but if this mentality is succeeding, how long will it be before we have to force them on birth control to save them from themselves. - guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25This is why schools need to readjust their thinking. How about instead of four years of Shakespeare, we throw in a little "Realities of Life", "Caring for a Child Who Won't Stop Screaming for Three Days", and "How To Do Your Taxes".
The education system is screwed up. - UBomb, on 10/12/2007, -11/+32When I read the headline of this story, I thought, "This has to be in Britain."
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+31Offender: You're trying to equate morality with religion? Go take a look at your holy book and tell me if you're willing to stone adulteres, kill your children and commit genocide in the name of your religion.
Ethics and morals are based on the common good of a society. It evolves and changes. Teenage pregnancy was the norm a few hundred years ago when it was the norm for 13 year olds to get married and bear babies. Society changed. We see these stupid kids in the US as well from both religious and non-religious families. If you think religion is going to save you, you're a deluded fool. - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22You mis-read his misspelling, he said of.
Therefore he was officially saying he definitely wanted the skank-ass sluts of Earth, not one or the other. - theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Ever seen Idiocracy?
- acdcfanbill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21A girl in my high school had two kids before she graduated. TWO! She ended up with four before she finally got married to that worthless ass who gave her all those kids. My state paid for every single one of her births since she was an unwed minor and out of work for most of them. She smoked/drank during pregnancy so every one of them was premature and required quite a bit of aid. Now I'm of the opinion that people can have kids whenever they want, I'm not going to legislate their personal lives, but if the state has to deliver their kid, they should automatically get their tubes tied. I'm sick of paying for kids to have fun all the time and bear little responsibility.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2814 year old girls shouldn't be having sex. These kids should reap what they sew but they should be put into a program that ensure their kids are raised properly and the little ***** isn't out at the mall with her friends.
- ksponge, on 10/12/2007, -12/+31Life is just life. They choose their paths. They live with their decisions. Getting riled and indignant doesn't change the clear fact that sex and it's driving pull take place at this age, therefore, it's a natural development. The morality behind the way a non neutral person looks at this is the unnatural course, hence why it is very difficult to combat (if that is your goal). I don't see the problem. This happens now, it happened then, it will happen in the future, and this won't change. Well, unless our society forcefully restricted this as in IUD's or something of that nature. That would be coercive and wrong though ofcourse.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21I predict that in about nine months she'll have an experience which will remind her why most people don't make a hobby of having kids.
- TheElectricMonk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22it's 10:30, do you know where your kids are?
- NoCure, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24Until a baby falls out of her crotch...then what's her "excuse"
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23breaking news: 1183 Digg users says haveing a child at 14 is a dumb ass move.
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24A little over the top, but ugh... It's quite true.
Lots of kids will get breaks in school, getting time out of classes, being able to just walk out, get special treatment from everyone...
It makes a few of them fairly interested in it, since the ones that are knocked up don't really have a downside untill the kids are born.
(Speaking from being in a school where it happens -.-) -
