- Blade1384, on 10/12/2007, -7/+56I wonder if the USPS is competent enough to do that?
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Peter Orly?
- vuke69, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29More like United Package Smashers
- eppitek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21well at least his address can't be harvested by spam crawlers
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Pics or it didn't... wow. Finally something from the Sun I can believe.
- steveoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19That is a great story, it really shows the lengths the post will go to to get things delivered. If all business would go above and beyond like this, things would be great!
- darkmule, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18hes getting dugg down because Blade said "USPS" which is not the same as UPS. :p
Needless to say NewEgg is a bunch of *****, they refuse to ship here all together.
I doubt the USPS would do it, there would probably be some huge DHS investigation into why the map was drawn, and then someone would be thrown in jail for some terrorist threat. - plsailboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15suprising if its true
the usps people around here have the competency level of a small shrub - sweethoney45, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10There are many United States Postal Workers who serve their customers with pride and to the very best of their ability. I am very proud to be one of them. I am one of those postal workers who gets to manually process mail pieces that could otherwise become undeliverable, such as those addressed by the shaky hand of an elderly grandma or grandpa, or those insufficiently addressed such as the letter that was delivered in England. These types of delivery "miracles" happen everyday, in the USPS, as well as in other countries, obviously. Sadly, for those of us postal workers who care (which I truly believe is MOST of us) the only thing customers seem to notice or remember are the negatives.
- hoyaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Well, we can only assume that aren't that many people with that name in that area.... or that, for four or five days, the previous people with that name gave it back to the postman.
And, yes, the USPS also does this sort of thing. In small towns where people don't move often and they give gifts to their postal workers.
Ah, agrarian society! - cisox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@darkmule
I wouldn't necessarily say Newegg are ***** because a postal service won't deliver to your area. I would consider moving to civilization. - soogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Must be a new breed of ninja postmen.
- chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Rag on USPS all you want, fact is, UPS and FEDEX, both private companies, don't count Saturdays as a business day. The Federal government controlled USPS does. UPS is better than FEDEX but deliveries for both are slower if you use the cheapest option especially if you shipped it any day but Mondays(Saturday and Sunday always adds two days when you ship on Tuesday thru Friday to the usual 5). The cheapest option for USPS starts at $4-$10 and it gets there in 2-3 days, including one day during the weekend.
I've never lost a package with the USPS, ever but had tons of problems with Fedex half the time, twice they delivered a package two houses next to mine. And I've probably used USPS at least 5 times more than both FEDEX and UPS. - Pests, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Max:
Do you stick it in the mailbox? :) - sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Postmen like that are awesome. The one's who don't even bother coming to your door are all too common.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Dang. Did you guys get that super saver shipping? That thing gets me all my stuff in usually less than 2 days (from ordering, not even from tracking number). That's why I always loved Newegg.

- ChrisJP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5RTFA. The guy who *sent it* lives in Wales and is therefore a Welshman.
- MaxPayne3476, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6:) We give our postman a gift every year for christmas, usually its a gift card
- Whaines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Newegg was the best when they shipped standard with FedEx, always arrived a day earlier than scheduled. Now with UPS it's always much later...
- Onibus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Derrekito
You missed a very important fact. You ordered during the Christmas season, the busiest shipping season for FedEx, UPS, USPS, even e-retailers.
I don't think you should be blaming a business for delivering a package to you in 6 days during the Christmas rush and call that slow. - Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Bob Wehadababyitsaboy?
- irregardless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Huzzah sweethoney45. The United States Postal Service performs gargantuan feats every day. For the sheer volume it handles, it's a modern testament to efficiency.
- mc_hambone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The USPS delivers packages on Christmas Day (I know - I used to do it). There were also MANY times when an incorrect or illegible address was correctly delivered, going on only the person's name.
I used to freak people out when they'd tell me their name, and I'd tell them their address from memory. Seeing as I subbed for about 10 mail routes (each with about 500 boxes), I think I was pretty competent, and I think the same can be said for most people that work there. - gers4302, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Penn Jillette did something similar. He had someone listening to his radio show send a letter to:
Penn Jillette
Las Vegas, NV
And it got to him. - it5five, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@sweethoney45
Holy *****. I had that same exact job for a few months. Unfortunately I had to quit because my college schedule was really *****. I think I may go back now that I am more available.
I always felt some sort of pride when I managed to get mail addressed by a shaky grandparent to it's correct address. - canadianguy33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It truly is amazing that the mail does get delivered with such accuracy. I used to work as a janitor at a post office when I was a teenager and on a nightly basis I'd sweep up huge piles of mail and just leave them in the corner. The letters would be covered in dirt and mixed in with all sorts of garbage and everyday some poor smuck had to sort through them all.
- spons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You see, it takes a lot more than riding a bike to become a postman.
- Supernova36, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been to Bude. Yay.
- richms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have had something sucessfully delivered to me from overseas with simply
My Name
New Zealand
on the envelope. Helps having a unique name :) - shit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I bet it was Kevin Costner.
- Tonamel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My Public Speaking teacher once got a letter delivered to her from someone she met on a visit to England. Thing is, she hadn't given her address, so the envelope was just covered in anything the sender could think of.
Ms. Libb
Teaches English in Ohio I think
Has a dog named Lily...
And so on. So yeah, I think the USPS could do it. - lewisbeta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There was something in the paper here in Australia a couple of years ago about someone who got a lchristmas card with an address something like this:
Mr and Mrs Smith
a sheep station
somewhere in the outback
Western Australia
The name was probably a bit less common but it was still pretty amazing that they recieved their mail. - ChrisJP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You're right, it's just I think nreynolds comment here was geared towards the guy who sent the card and drew out the map, his so called "inventive" idea. Who cares anyway, it got there and that's all that matters...
- dohidied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We've given our Mailman cookies at Christmas. My grandma waited until she heard his truck and then watched for him to come up to the door.
- Zanneth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Call me crazy, but I don't think the picture helped at all. It says in the article that a postal worker "recognised the name in a local sorting office" which leads me to think that they knew where they guy lived the whole time.
Also, they don't have any sort of directory listing in England? - msheppard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We once sent a xmas card to a friend with just his picture and the zipcode - and he got it right away. He's an editor so he recieves and sends a TON of mail and the people at the post office know him quite well. It was a pretty small town too.
M@ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha - if you know anything about this newspaper your only assurance about the content is its probably a lie, but your guaranteed some nice ***** on page 3.
- fofusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah I've been surprised with the postal service before.
I once got a card addresses to "Flat above top shop and the town name and it arrived." - Eastlygod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember a few months back they delivered a postcard with the following address...
The Washing Machine Repairman
(Some Town, can't remember)
UK.
That also got delivered. - ThrasherC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL...haven't seen that commercial in a while. Strangely, it wasn't that funny then, but reading it here made me laugh.
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's always worth taking a stab at something rather than not trying at all I guess.
- Dpack1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It wasnt a welshman that delivered it, sure a Welsh PO recieved the letter, probably looked at the map and sent it onto a SW Regional PO. From there it was all up to the english... so if you think a guy that can put a letter into a post box, or a guy that can collect a bag out of said post box is better than you then wow... just wow. I figured we all had that capability in us.
It was the English guys that managed to figure out the exact location of the recepient, and thats where the achievement lies. - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1damn that kevin. What a postman.
- liquidcola, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Weren't we talking about newegg?
- d03boy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3NewEgg gives you the option of fedex or ups......... not sure what you're whining about
- boardrider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1USPS = United States Postal Service
Devon, Cornwall, Somerset is not in the United States.
At least those "incompetent shrubs" know their geography. - christmascards1, on 09/21/2008, -0/+0Oh I love the map! It's great that the Christmas Card made it to the address! Check out thses Christmas Cards for Friends and Family! http://www.designcrafters.com/index.html
- christmascards1, on 09/08/2008, -0/+0Wow!! Wish it was that simple for the sender. I feel bad for the mailman! What if during Christmas Season everyone sent their Chrismas Cards this way!?
