- williamdyer, on 10/22/2007, -1/+71A pen and gunpowder? Wow. Did he have a dull half-inch knife, too?
- asauterChicago, on 10/22/2007, -1/+69Oh come on, this is crap. Gunpowder, in a plastic casing with a fuse attached, would at best, produce a very bright hot flash. Maybe some burns. This is just another sensationalize thing for the main stream media to pick up in order to scare soccer moms. Next schools will wiping down pens for explosive residue.
I mean, a sharpy? A sharpy of all things?? Not a glass bottle, small steel pipe, a freaking sharpy with a fuse attached?? How was he planning to use it: "Jimmy would be so kind to solve the problem on the white board" "Sure Mrs. Lame, just let me get my liter, heh, heh, heh"... Whatever - shadus, on 10/22/2007, -6/+72Because they're sick of being brutalized by the ***** with no brain. I don't have any problem relating to them and understanding why they might want to kill people... if you get beat enough and no one is willing to help you and even when you try to fight back more people just hold you down... you eventually get to the point where you feel like your only option left is to kill them and yourself... where you really don't see any value in yourself or your future, all you see is the pain and suffering you endure everyday.
You want to cut school shootings and bomb scares from students down 90%? End the bullying. End the protection of the bullies by school administrators because they can't afford to have their star athlete suspended during the big game. End the protection of bullies by school administrators because their dad is a major contributor to the school and on the school board and he wouldn't like it if his son got in trouble.
I was brutalized at school. I was beaten severely on an almost daily basis for 4 years... had I not changed schools when i would have snapped long before the next year ended and having grown up on a farm shooting guns my entire life and having access to real dynamite for stump removal and pond digging, it would have made columbine look like a couple kids who were upset about a bad test score.
It's been over 10 years since I graduated and to this day, with all the psych council I've received, I hate the people who did that to me. I hate the people who protected them because they were on the football team. I hate the school. I have scars mentally and physically that will never heal, that can never be fixed, and most people will never understand the kind of agony I went through.
That being said... to anyone out there in the same situation, just hang in there. Run if you can-- change schools and destroy the first person to try to pick on you at the new school... yah it'll get you some time in suspension but you will never get in another fight at the new school again, if you can't do that fight back even if it costs you, make them pay for every hit-- nuts, throat, solar plexus, ear clap, nose, elbows and knees inflict the most damage, hunt them down one at a time if they gang up, if you're under 18 goto the police and report them every time you get attacked, and get your parents to help you press charges or if you're 18 do it yourself. Get some psych help and remember it does get better the day you graduate... you'll never suffer like that again, you'll never be tortured mentally or physically again, and it'll be over permanently and you can enjoy watching them founder and become losers for the rest of their lives while you excel. Those ***** aren't worth spending your life in jail or dying over, you're better than them, give life some time to prove that. - Dysarthria, on 10/22/2007, -0/+42Whats next, the Trapper-Keeper missile base?
- macwac, on 10/22/2007, -0/+41Thats a firecracker not a bomb
- DesertDude, on 10/21/2007, -2/+31We'll never know. He was tasered to death.
- gormenghast, on 10/22/2007, -1/+27Pens outlawed
- Rooster99, on 10/22/2007, -1/+24Wow! Im going to assume that most of the fireworks that me and a lot of people my age played with back in the day was much more dangerous that a pen filled with gunpowder. Im also going assume (as I am not a pyro-technician) that a pen does not have the structural integrity to create the pressure required to cause a big explosion. At best this thing probably would have done a little flash, a bang that sounds like a really loud clap and a lot of smoke.
- vault, on 10/21/2007, -1/+22Damn shadus...that's quite a story, sorry to hear that.
- Hayaemsay, on 10/21/2007, -1/+21***** I just realized what an ass I made of myself.
- shadus, on 10/22/2007, -4/+24Because that's who all the ***** jocks brutalize.
- wiifm69, on 10/21/2007, -0/+19Sensationalist headline for sure. Should read: "drop kick school kid makes homemade sparkler"
Anyway, in order to make a pipe bomb, you need a PIPE - asauterChicago, on 10/22/2007, -2/+16How do you know I didn't mean to say "Liter"? Huh? Do ya? I could be saying that he was about to reach for a Liter of milk, to drink, because he's thirsty, really thirsty, so thirsty he needs a whole Liter and he needs it before he grabs his lighter and blows the whole ***** place up... with his plastic sharpy...
- badassninja, on 10/21/2007, -1/+15And this is why we are afraid of men with box knifes.
- cranium, on 10/22/2007, -0/+13I'm surprised they didn't notice the sword he made out of a paper clip.
- Goobernutz, on 10/22/2007, -2/+13I made a pipe bomb out of my arse and a can of beans. i ar teh l33t terrurist, Bin Fartin.
- psyjoniz, on 10/21/2007, -1/+11very very well put. emotionally charged and true. and i identify with your story so much though i went through 5 highschools in 3 years. i believe the worst was when a gang of black kids beat the ***** out of me on a school bus while the driver watched, helpless. and when i say gang, i mean a kid in school who was part of a gang had some of his gang members get on the bus on the way to school with him. the second worst was having the star QB throw me down a flight of stairs. i did break his nose and send him to the hospital (right then and there) but *****, that dumb piece of ***** didn't know me from a hole in the wall - asshats like that deserve to have a ligament ripped out. i'm just glad he's sitting around wondering why his life fell apart after he didn't make it big playing dumbassball. i'm glad i stuck to studying and have an actual career now. its too bad i still, to this day, look back with such negativity. pain. loneliness. rage.
but i never considered it ok to hurt people for no reason because i had been hurt for no reason (see: i'm not going to be so weak as to let this kinda thing set me off). i also wouldn't be so stupid enough to believe that a gunpowdered filled sharpie would do anything but put a big shining spotlight on my ignorance of creating an effective bomb. i dunno. this kid sounds like he just needed some attention from mommy. - shortarabguy, on 10/22/2007, -1/+11True. I hate to say it, but occasionally you gotta do something sinister to keep doing the right thing without getting pushed around.
- Scorps111, on 10/21/2007, -4/+12What about the people who cant stick up for themselves or feel its moraly wrong to start fighting? tht kid will always be picked on
- TyR88, on 10/21/2007, -0/+8Somebody should make a deadly device out of bra's, blouses, and tops. Then I'd fly 24/7
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/21/2007, -0/+8*ninja vanish*
- DaceDiath, on 10/22/2007, -0/+7They did but the pen was mightier then the sword
- Blitzenn, on 10/22/2007, -0/+7I am not THAT old and when I went to school (42 now), you were looked down on if you didn't have a decent utility style knife. Granted it was in a rural area, but the mindset was completely different. My how things have changed.
So, is loading your own shells now (which many americans do) considered a terrorist activity? Are they considered small 'pipe bombs'? - stealthc, on 10/21/2007, -1/+8I can't digg shadus up enough. I was never subject to that degree of brutality, but school kids are RUTHLESS. The protection of bullies needs to end. If by his description high school sounds a lot like prison (kick someone's ass the first day), it can be a lot like prison. An anarchy of brutes governed distantly by the authority figures. Teachers don't see even 10% of what really goes on. You might look like a wuss now, but REPORT the people who ***** with you. It will keep you safer in the long run, and then you'll graduate, and then you get to go on to college and/or a real job, while they get to sprout beer bellies and illegitimate children. But being an adult, you'll probably just pity them at that point.
- kroenecker, on 10/22/2007, -0/+7He has a felony now. Back when I was in high school someone stuck a real pipe bomb under a water fountain in a school in my city. I blew the fountain off the wall. That's a serious pipe bomb. This kid needs to talk to someone who wants to actually help him. He doesn't need a felony and he doesn't need to perceive himself as already being a "hardened criminal."
- asauterChicago, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6Er, in my juniority I've experimented with gunpowder before. Let's just say pouring a whole bunch of gunpowder into a metal can... while sitting in a carpeting living room, is not the brightest idea...
- dteresh, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6Well, *****. Now we're not going to be allowed to bring pens onto planes. :(
- Hayaemsay, on 10/21/2007, -1/+7That's nothing, at my previous school someone blew up a large rubbish bin.
- ChristBehemoth, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6science + students = boom
- DemDude, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6"Obviously, this boy took the idea from GTA3, where one of the main goals of the game is to sodomize grandmas and cheerleaders with a pen-bomb, then eat their flesh and poop on their relatives' doorsteps!" - Tack Jhompson
- Goombellaofgoom, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6Dumbledore's dead.
- TyR88, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6More like a flashbomb if you ask me. Would be cool to have in class though. Just stand up in the middle of the class throw it on the ground and *POOF* and 5sec later you've successfully entered the ventilation system and nobody will never know how you got away from that pop quiz. Theeee End *martin sargent voice*
- shortarabguy, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6Heh, sharpies were already banned from my middle school several years ago when they were worried that their new buildings would get defaced. It didn't really occur to them that it was the high school kids who were vandalizing the schools on the weekends when the school was unlocked and completely unattended.
Last I heard, they banned white out ink as well... - williamdyer, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6Do you EVER get tired of sucking cop dick?
- lonnieh, on 10/21/2007, -0/+5mine was disguised with lamborghini pictures. the lambos were a lie.
- linksus, on 10/21/2007, -0/+5Thats smaller than a bloody firework. Sigh
- vault, on 10/21/2007, -2/+7lol
- stealthc, on 10/21/2007, -2/+7Police around every corner will help nothing. Just give the whelp a good spanking and be done with it.
- hmunkey, on 10/22/2007, -1/+5"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IT'S ALL MACGYVER'S FAULT BAN MACGYVER AND MAKE IT ILLEGALZ IN THE USA!!!111"
-Jack Thompson - VitriolAndAngst, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4I used to make the same stuff when I was a kid.
Why do these reactionary ***** have to justify their jobs by slamming little kids who play with stuff that blows up? Who the hell is going to become a chemist anymore? A pen with "gunpowder" or just as likely crap emptied out of a firecracker is a lot less dangerous than a can of hair spray. Get a ***** grip.
Like what did any of these security guard ***** do as kids? I'm willing to bet that half of them would be labelled a "terrorist" if someone knew of their recreational activities. What a bunch of reactionary, up-tight ***** fascists! - Scorps111, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4oh No am gonna get arrested for making flash paper out of a picture of a naked woman. Oh no they'll think its a bomb.
- givinupthefight, on 10/21/2007, -0/+4Eat your heart out, Macgyver.
- RobsaysHello, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4Shame on those parents. That child's trainig in improvised explosives has been sorely neglected.
- hmunkey, on 10/22/2007, -2/+6Get off Digg *****.
- toastgodsupreme, on 10/21/2007, -0/+4I remember when my elementary school still spanked kids... yeah, no one went around making bombs or doing stupid ***** like this back then. (and I'm only 24)
- accessviolation, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4win
- DiggMasterJ, on 10/21/2007, -1/+5Bringing contraband to school is always a blast.
- inactive, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3vicious cycle ;)
- inactive, on 10/22/2007, -3/+6dont tase me bro!
- kroenecker, on 10/21/2007, -0/+3Oops. "It" blew the fountain off the wall. I definitely don't support violence of that sort.
