Actually the tourist attraction provides thirty of them in varying heights. That way he can just borrow the ones he needs for pictures and he doesn't have to pay for plane tickets to bring the real ones along. - mortigon, on 10/12/2007, -10/+82At a hockey rink near where I live (Buffalo, NY) I went to an open skate... there were about 100 muslim girls just getting off the ice and walking around through the lobby. It was pretty amazing... I wish I could have seen them all skating around the rink at once. That had to be the quietest skate ever.
Nothing to do with the article, just thought I'd share :) - Roger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+65I think thats the point of the covering - don't hit on them.
- inarguable, on 10/12/2007, -18/+78Actually, they prefer the roguishly fashionable vest made from 17.5lbs of Semtex-A, elegantly trimed in Primacord.

Swim wear is much more relaxed than normal garb. Check out the sexy new burqini: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burqini *whistle* - reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+58As someone who grew up in a Muslim family and country, I have to agree that it is pointless. (I'm more of an agnostic now, but that's another issue). This dress is called the 'abayah' if I'm not mistaken, and is an example of taking things to the extreme. Most women/girls I knew only covered their body and head, but not the entire face. I knew this very religious family where all the women would cover their faces too like the ones shown in the pic, and it can be *very* disconcerting talking to them. I knew them for years and yet I don't know what they look like. When they talk the clothing around their mouth moves, and it can be both funny and disturbing. I just avoided talking to them. And nowhere does it say in the Hadith or Quran that women should cover their faces too.
When my brothers and I used to be younger the first thing which popped into our heads was 'NINJAS!'. - wonko33, on 10/12/2007, -14/+64This picture is going to pulled soon... I think I can see the toes on one of them
- Scrappy1850, on 10/12/2007, -5/+54you would kill people for making ***** comments about you? how did you make it through HS? toughen up a little, DORK!
- Sandkat, on 10/12/2007, -29/+74Dynamite is so 20th century. Everyone knows the modern terrorist will be sporting C4 hip packs. It's the latest style.
- avions, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47Someone should market these outfits to party girls. They can go out, get as sloshed as they want, act like fools and no one can identify them when the pictures make it to the internet.
- sifuchar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47There's a penguin joke in there somewhere, I just KNOW it!

About the same time that you completely lost your sense of humor. - BSGAdama, on 10/12/2007, -17/+47Actually, this way of covering is cultural and has nothing to do with Islam AFAIK.

CORRECTION:
Most terrorists that ARE COVERED BY THE MEDIA happen to be Muslim.
Plenty of terrorist in each denomination, just not a whole lot of news coverage. - Ozymandius3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26A picture's worth a thousand untouched virgins.
- wonko33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22They can wear whatever they want, the point is why take the picture if you can't tell who's on it? That's what funny, not what they are wearing
- malaak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23I think the one with the yellow shoe is a tranny.

Great, welcome to their cult. - rajulkabir, on 10/12/2007, -9/+28@funkmachine:
You can play the same game with Christianity. Follow the Bible literally and you'll be killing people for working on the Sabbath, and shunning your wife every time she has the audacity to menstruate. There's nothing magical about Islam in this regard. - tokyomonster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Well funkmachine, that was very nice of you to tell him exactly what his girlfriend is.

- Buelldozer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I love the pictures that show Jesus as a white man, especially a pretty white man!
The bible describes Jesus as a man whose "visage was scarred more than any other". He wasn't pretty.
He was also JEWISH and living in the MIDDLE EAST. He would likely have had swarthy skin, dark hair and been around 5' tall.
FWIW I'm Christian, but that doesn't mean I'm swallowing all the hogwash that was added to my religion by Europe over the last 2,000 years. - slowmotiony, on 10/12/2007, -9/+25Yeah, he should instead write "my girlfriend who is not a Muslim, but still refers to herself as a Muslim and retains some Muslim cultural or religious practices".
- discochew, on 10/12/2007, -9/+25Does this berkha make me look fat?
- rajulkabir, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23@BSGadama "Actually, this way of covering is cultural and has nothing to do with Islam AFAIK."
Well, that was true historically, but not so much today.
The Saudis have been spending huge amounts of money exporting bedouin traditions like this. Twenty years ago here in Malaysia you wouldn't see nearly as many women covering their heads as you do now (at least they don't cover faces here, just hair). Today, thanks to all the Islamic education grants from the Saudis, many Malays have "learned" that the way to practice their faith is to imitate stone-age desert nomads. Same thing's happening in Indonesia and elsewhere. It's really a shame, and the end result is going to be a version of Islam that's no longer compatible with any of its neighbours. -
