- misterparry, on 09/24/2008, -0/+44Help I've fallen and can't bounce up!
- granolajoe, on 09/24/2008, -0/+32This could also be marketed toward serial drunks
- unusualbob, on 09/25/2008, -0/+15great, except for the whole falling forwards thing they left out...
- MommaLu, on 09/24/2008, -0/+14Getting old sucks.
- sillygato, on 09/24/2008, -0/+13That's pretty ridiculous. What next, putting one of those plastic cones over their heads, like we do with dogs to prevent them from scratching a wound?
- Surferess, on 09/24/2008, -0/+13Last night, I had a dream I saw a bicyclist with airbags, and now this story is on here, bizarre!
- AlexandraF, on 09/24/2008, -1/+12Great, just another way to hurt themselves... If my Nana used this I would have to worry about her suffocating when she falls instead of breaking her hip.
- fishnchips, on 09/24/2008, -0/+11Just don't fall forwards.
- jd33, on 09/24/2008, -0/+9Brilliant idea: put this back pack on every time you get up. it won't affect your quality of your life at all.
- gratulor, on 09/24/2008, -0/+8My aunt suffers from parkinsons disease and has fallen and injured herself several times in the past . This device would help her as well as others who suffer from parkinsons. What a truly wonderful invention. I wish the inventors much success and hope to see this device in the states in the very near future.
- miralize, on 09/25/2008, -0/+8who falls straight back?
- w0lfh0und, on 09/24/2008, -0/+8There is only an airbag for the back of the head.
- AmyVernon, on 09/24/2008, -0/+8See, that's the way they should be marketing it. It'd sell a lot more, and faster, that way.
- lemercier, on 09/24/2008, -0/+6Oh my god that's a great idea. I know a few people that would still have their teeth if they had a people airbag...
- LeeMaple, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6When I detect I'm going to stumble I make sure and lock my knees, and fall over like a toppled bowling pin.
- CrimsonBlur, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6What happens if you don't fall straight backwards? I would say that almost no elderly person that has lost control falls backward like that; most likely they fall sideways or forward.
If you're walking then you fall forward and if your legs give out you probably won't fall backwards, you will probably fall slightly sideways. The only time a person really falls backwards is if you slip and your legs come out from under you.
When my grandpa had his first big fall, he fell forward and hit his head on a counter top. I don't recall a single time when he fell backwards. - inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5I believe Jung explored the "novel air bag apparatus" dream archetype in some of his writings.
- n1eb, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5"People's airbag" - I was expecting an article about Kim Jong Il, this is much better.
- KatherineC, on 09/24/2008, -0/+5You probably gave some enterprising digger their new product idea.
- jsd8cc, on 09/25/2008, -1/+6This might make me a bad person, but I would crack up if someone fell and one of these came popping out.
- MeatyMcBeef, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4There is now no legitimate reason not to spend my entire life intoxicated. Thank you Japan!
- avataros, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4But will it kill babies?
- inactive, on 09/24/2008, -0/+4Man I wish I weren't laughing right now but this is high comedy.
- MeatyMcBeef, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4I cannot wait to see the lawsuits from this one...
Timmy on grandpas shoulders....
Malfunctioning while sitting...
Malfunctioning while pooping...
Malfunctioning while pooping with Timmy on grandpas shoulders... - inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4Yeah... first diapers, now airbags.
- SugarCoatedSalt, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3"Help I've fallen and I can't get up!"
- shutaro, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3What do you mean? Old people always land on their backs. They're like cats that way.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3Airbags made for the people, out of people.
- pak314, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3Soylent air bags for people!
- Essobee, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3wanna go out this saturday night?
- KennedyFinsin, on 09/25/2008, -1/+4What will we do with all our hilarious Life Alert commercials?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52RHVQ9Ybqo - Pfkninenines, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3I don't know what you did with your Grandpa, but I don't think that's something normal.
- keitarofujiwara, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3super crowded Japanese trains + this = hilarity
- hammerpants, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3I'm going to start pushing over every elderly Japanese person I see.
- shutaro, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3If only they could combine the two somehow...
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3Why not both!
- jdduran, on 09/24/2008, -0/+2I'm going to order 2!!!
- ptoomey, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Two immediate questions. First, won't the explosion powering the airbag inflation scare them to death? Second, even in the perfect control environment, the last sample on the video showed the tester's ass hitting the ground before the bag exploded. So will we be treated to a whole new level of Acme cartoon gadget videos on YouTube where the person falls, hits the ground and is then shot back up again by the airbag? I hope it's no to the first question and yes to the second!
- alpharaptor, on 09/25/2008, -2/+4this invention might be our defense against palin becoming president, besides voting obama
- darny, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2how humiliating. The equivalent of diapers worn above your clothes.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2You will clearly get lucky wearing one.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2I've fallen, and I can't get up!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc4T6tBs3mg - damnitdaniel, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2heh. that is pretty badass.
- nard3456, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Won't the startling noise end up giving them a heart attack?
- LeeMaple, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2The demo video was missing 10 old people lined up like bowling pins being felled by a giant hemoroid doughnut.
- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2lol. You could have too much fun trying to set these off on people you know are wearing them
- shutaro, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2I'll be rich!
- emecks, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2and how many will injure themselves putting it on?
- hammerpants, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2I just love how the BBC's video player goes to 11...louder than any video player in the world.
