- buckyballs, on 04/07/2009, -18/+563So who thought it would be a good idea to put the words "peacekeeper" and "missile" together?!
- eastwood24, on 04/07/2009, -10/+424pew pew pew
- buddamus, on 04/08/2009, -5/+379Nothing says Peace like blowing the ***** out of things
- YME1280, on 04/07/2009, -18/+315This just in: Guns are now named Life Givers.
- CrimsonFate, on 04/07/2009, -24/+260The same guy who said we were going to Iraq to liberate them.
- ryan83189, on 04/07/2009, -16/+182☮
- anonymousmedic, on 04/08/2009, -4/+134Peace through superior firepower. Nothing says "Deterrant" Like the ability to turn your aggressor's country into a glass floored, self lighting parking lot.
- shig, on 04/07/2009, -5/+128From the LGM-118A Peacekeeper wiki:
"Testing at the Kwajalein Atoll of the Peacekeeper re-entry vehicles, all eight fired from only one missile. With live warheads, each line would represent the explosive power of twenty Hiroshima-sized (Little Boy) weapons."
It's basically an ICBM with eight warheads on a MIRV bus. We sold this technology to China in the 90's when we began to retire the program. - eastwood24, on 04/07/2009, -8/+128That's it. I'm reporting you two to the thought police. Somebody needs a re-education.
- Vodd9, on 04/08/2009, -5/+74War is peace.
- XtheXlanternX, on 04/08/2009, -2/+68I can't believe no one has said how much this looks like Missile Command...
- elliotys, on 04/08/2009, -25/+86Peacekeeper missile? Makes about as much sense as ***** for virginity.
- shig, on 04/07/2009, -2/+60The "Peacekeeper", in this example, is a thermonuclear weapon with 8 warheads carrying more than a 1megaton equivalent between them. Therefore, the name "Peacekeeper" is in reference to their deterrent nature.
A missile that is intended to destroy other missiles would have names referencing their nature as a shield, such as the Aegis ABMS. - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -4/+57The actual video of this is much better. Good stuff start's at about :50.

- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+48For those who would like a little more information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGM-118_Peacekeeper
The name always struck me a misnomer though, it should be the peace maker. - PrettyGreen, on 04/08/2009, -1/+46Freedom is slavery.
- tburrows, on 04/08/2009, -0/+43ignorance is strength
- MoundOfManure3, on 04/07/2009, -5/+46it looks like the giant laser gun thing from AKIRA
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+40What? How would it shoot down a missile? It's a god-damn ICBM. However, I've seen a video of the impact, and you're right. It IS ***** epic. It's so ***** accurate. Gay 80s music though.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -11/+48Fighting for peace is like ***** for virginity.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+34Peacekeeper is a good name. Mutually Assured Destruction worked and there was no nuclear war while this ICBM was in service.
Had the things ever been fired in aggression they would have renamed them "giant hypersonic space ***** that ejaculates fiery death". - prrudman, on 04/08/2009, -0/+32The Peacekeeper it the missile that you try to shoot down....
You are thinking of the Patriot Missile - Scottc320, on 04/08/2009, -3/+35^^ Ever heard of mutually-assured destruction, ANY of you?
- 1nhuman, on 04/08/2009, -3/+34Innerpeace Grenade
Friendlyfire Flamethrower - jeremyduffy, on 04/08/2009, -1/+32Ladies and Gentlement, I give you Jericho
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+26Yes, that's the logo painted on the tip of each missile.
- Chordinator, on 04/08/2009, -4/+291984 FTW
- wjlaw100, on 04/08/2009, -3/+27Sounds like most Diggers never heard of the old west where the Sheriff was the "Peacekeeper", and was the good guy with the big gun in town.... and because of that you didn't really want to ***** with him unless you wanted trouble.
- 1nhuman, on 04/08/2009, -2/+25Tony Stark?
- foofightrs777, on 04/08/2009, -4/+27No, Mission Accomplished.
- manergy, on 04/08/2009, -0/+22strength through unity, unity through faith
- shodanx, on 04/08/2009, -2/+22MAD was more about turning the entire earth that way
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -3/+23I don't know but that's exactly what it did. It was designed during the cold war and prevented a war between the US and the Soviet Union.
- udee79, on 04/08/2009, -0/+19I lived on Kwajalein for 7 years and was there in the 80's when they were bringing the Peacekeeper on-line, When you watch the reentry vehicles with your naked eye they are just glowing dots that move across the sky. The streaks in the photo are due to holding the shutter open for about 120-15 seconds. My wife took several pictures like the one above with our Minolta SLR. I hardly ever got to watch them myself because I was usually in the control room of one of the radars.
- Greengoo, on 04/08/2009, -0/+18I believe we sold the payload separation and delivery technology, not ACTUAL ICBMs.
- fangor, on 04/08/2009, -8/+26How cute....your imaginary friend is angry.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 04/08/2009, -0/+18Ironically- it was the continued arms escalation and knowing that both sides had weapons that would lead to a war that could only end in a terrible stalemate that kept the peace- i.e. MAD (mutually assured destruction)
So in a way, this did keep the peace. Simply by sitting in it's silo quietly. - blakestah, on 04/08/2009, -2/+20Missile command?
- Delphium226, on 04/08/2009, -1/+18You sound as if this sort of thing gets you off.
- Maul555, on 04/08/2009, -3/+19Peace through strength... Walk softly and carry a big stick...
Peacekeeper seems to work great, whats your problem? - AGONYTUESDAY, on 04/08/2009, -1/+16this picture is something like five years old. seriously. have none of you seen it?
I had it as a background my sophomore year in high school, and now it comes back my sophomore year in college.
I thought /b/ was the place where we put copypasta. - inmymindzi, on 04/08/2009, -4/+19I think it was Army Intelligence.
- directedition, on 04/08/2009, -4/+19It's great for maintaining peace. How can there be war if humanity no longer exists?
- TheSuperunknown, on 04/08/2009, -1/+15Did you just make that up? I've never heard that phrase before. Ever.
You should think about doing standup. - inactive, on 04/08/2009, -3/+17The Ministry of Love, of course.
- Evermin7, on 04/08/2009, -1/+14Here is my reply to bencefeher and dlan4327....
What the hell are you guys thinking? Are you of any use? Do you read books? Do you appreciate freedom and how it is being taking from us (while you don't care or give two *****?)
Please do tell me...because every time I see asshat comments like yours....I have no idea how you can think the way that you do. - DoubleThink, on 04/08/2009, -0/+13No lasers, these are glowing trails of reentry modules (with warheads), aka "Fingers of God".
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -1/+14(insert "that's not really irony" retort here)
- kylemech, on 04/08/2009, -0/+13Just the tip.
