- one1plus1one, on 03/09/2009, -33/+317The guy died in a moment of extreme horror, in front of an audience and community of people that he cared about and knew almost everyone's names.
Pardon me for finding it a little too soon to chuckle and giggle and laugh at your juvenile jokes regarding this man's muder.
(And of course, go ahead and post the obligatory chain of comments below my message, telling me to "lighten up" and accusing me of false-sympathy, projecting upon me your own sociopathic inability to feel any lack of empathy for this man.) - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -8/+118It didn't. It "turned the bible into confetti". The other three bullets went right into the pastor. This headline is ***** but watch it fly in the mass media.
- benhorstmann, on 03/09/2009, -5/+107The bullet did not deflect, it went through the bible. The church is a few miles from where I live, Pastor Fred married my inlaws.
http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/ ... - sourc3, on 03/09/2009, -4/+96Buried as inaccurate - from all the American news articles I've read on this incident, the Bible was sitting on the Pulpit and the bullet hit it. They've also said nothing about him running down the aisle and collapsing? Sensationalistic journalism by a borderline tabloid from Europe does NOT trump newspaper articles and reports in the United States - you know, the country where the event actually happened.
Not being "superior" here, I know a lot of our newspapers suck, but it's unfortunate that an article about an event from The Telegraph gets to the front page before any U.S. based media does. Unless the Telegraph actually had reporters there - which I doubt. - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -12/+97It's pretty sad that many of you constantly play the harp of tolerance, but in the event it's a religious man that dies you come out to celebrate. Sad. Sad.
- Jared14, on 03/09/2009, -7/+87Nobody deserves to be murdered, no matter if you agree or disagree with their beliefs.
- arlok789, on 03/09/2009, -13/+90Murder is a terrible thing. Seriously gruesome. Murdering somebody in a room full of people/witnesses? Thats cold blood.
- Zurvanian, on 03/09/2009, -19/+89I'm not worried about guns in school. You know what I'm waitin' for? Guns in church! That's gonna be a lotta fun!
-George Carlin - Ronsardinho, on 03/09/2009, -5/+70I'm really appalled at what I'm seeing here. How can you guys make jokes about somebody dying in front of close friends like that? Just because you happen to disagree with his religion, it's OK for him to be killed? If he were Hitler or bin Laden or Charles Manson, I could understand, but all you know is that he's a Christian pastor! You don't know how caring/loving/tolerant he actually was. This makes you no better than the Muslim fundamentalists who believe any non-believer should die.
I don't care if I get buried. I really don't want the respect of people who are so intolerant and narrow-minded. Sheesh! - tripmaster, on 03/09/2009, -10/+73Tragic, but I call media shenanigans on the bullet deflection with a large book.
- hamobu, on 03/09/2009, -2/+64Title is misleading. The pastor actually died.
- shadus, on 03/09/2009, -4/+58You listened to his sermons? You know what kind of minister he was? You're painting with an awful broad brush.
About 15 years ago I went on a religious pilgrimage to find myself, what I eventually found was apathetic agnosticism, but in the intervening time I went to dozens of churches, researched a half dozen religions fairly in depth and read their texts, and spent a lot of time talking to clergy of various sorts. What I found was what they preached and in how they felt varied a lot by the person. There were ones I would consider extremely good men who preached nothing but kindness and largely acted that way. There were hypocrites who preached one thing and felt another. There were ***** heads who preached intolerance and hatred of anyone different. Most just held a different belief and were kind and caring people in both action and word. I'm friends still with many of the people I met on my journey and they accept me and respect my belief and I accept them and respect their belief.
Your attitude just reflects what extremists in every belief set (religious, political, social, etc) reflect. Not everything is black and white. There's plenty of evil in the world without seeing it in everyone who is different than you. I suggest you seek mental help, you need it. - MisterEX, on 03/09/2009, -5/+51You're pretty sick, man.
- chickenloco, on 03/09/2009, -5/+49A man is murdered in cold blood, and diggers use the opportunity to make jokes about religion.
- peaceninja, on 03/09/2009, -4/+44I don't really like religion either, but nobody is perfect. If you are suggesting that we should only mourn people who are completely neutral (politically, religiously, etc), then that is really hateful. You say "good riddance to a liar and a conman," I say "rest in peace to someone who served his community and wanted the best for society".
- dafragsta, on 03/09/2009, -8/+45Well, while there is wanton immaturity on the internet, I'm sure that someone who posts such a comment doesn't somehow want to be victimized by it. You can't blame the internet for having crazies with no tact. The internet reflects the real world; a real world where crazies go into churches with guns.
- rjohnson99, on 03/09/2009, -14/+50Sad and ugly comments surrounding this man's murder by the folks on here. I am not surprised. Digg has a strong anti-Christian sentiment running just under the surface. This is the same attitude displayed time and time again by liberals. If this was a Muslim cleric I guarantee that we would not see anyone mocking the Koran or making off-color jokes.
Liberal tolerance.......hypocrisy at its finest.
Prepared to be dugg down.
BTW: Not a church-goer. - BradBrown, on 03/09/2009, -18/+52Had he been preaching from a 1977 Sears catalog, he would have deflected all the shots. When will we learn?
- Jared14, on 03/09/2009, -2/+35No matter if you disagree with his religious views, he didn't deserve to be murdered.
- Nichiren, on 03/09/2009, -4/+37I'm a devout atheist myself but a lot of these dugg down comments are way over the line. These asshats don't represent us and give atheists a bad name.
Let's at least wait to see if any more details come out of this in the future. - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -4/+36It's unlikely that George was making a joke about this particular event.
- SasquatchBill, on 03/09/2009, -11/+40You're right. I wish I could dig you twice. The world needs is more of YOU and less of the heartless.
- lews001, on 03/09/2009, -2/+26I live in Collinsville, have friends that attend the church, and from my sources, things were quite a bit different from how these "news articles" are portraying it.
- rjohnson99, on 03/09/2009, -3/+26Correction: A person of the Christian faith is fine to mock on Digg. Anyone else and it's not PC and it's intolerant and racist.
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -2/+24Nothing hostile this time, just the physics of bullets versus bibles.
- lews001, on 03/09/2009, -0/+19Most of them say that no one knew the guy, but my buddy says it seemed pretty obvious that the pastor knew the shooter. The pastor asked "What are you doing here?" before the gun was brought out or the shooting started, the guy said something, then the pastor said "Seriously, why are you here?" No one in the audience knew the guy, he wasn't a church member, but the papers are playing that out to be NO ONE knew him. The deflecting bullet stories are just huff and puff, since he wasn't even holding the bible. It's terrible, but I trust the friends of mine that attend, and their story just don't match up with most of these news articles.
- wretcheddawn, on 03/09/2009, -6/+24Because he's a pastor you condone his murder? That's cold... I bet you're also against the death penalty, am I right?
Christianity is a message of hope. - jerrycan, on 03/09/2009, -0/+18Yeah, go on...
- navghtivs, on 03/09/2009, -5/+23Stupid title.
- Solkre, on 03/09/2009, -9/+26If you believe in the bible, you're better off when you die by far.
- jakatak, on 03/09/2009, -1/+17Please realize that Digg users are mostly frustrated 19 year old males who are angry at the world.
- Nichiren, on 03/09/2009, -0/+16Actually, it depends on the type of bullet used and the thickness of the book: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot31.htm
- Asianwaste, on 03/09/2009, -0/+15Copied in clipboard for the slim chance that you get gunned down. I'll be sure to paste it on your epitaph.
- bobbinika, on 03/09/2009, -0/+15he used a .44
and the pastor didnt deflect it with the bible, it was just a bullet that hit a bible and it exploded
i have friends that attend that church - KublaiKhan, on 03/09/2009, -4/+18Yes, certainly you are qualified to judge whether the world is "better off" that a particular man has been murdered.
- jerrycan, on 03/09/2009, -4/+18Welcome to the internets
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -0/+14I'm an atheist, but I'm puzzled by your reasoning. When atheists cheer the deaths of religious people (Except people like Jerry Falwell or Khoimeni), it makes us as a community look bad, and feeds anti-atheist propaganda. So STFU.
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -1/+15I swear that some power diggers are paid by both them and the Daily Fail to get their stuff on Digg.
- SasquatchBill, on 03/09/2009, -2/+16Not sure if I know my terminology correctly, but couldn't a bullet be deflected while also going through? As in, the trajectory path was changed, but still exited through the book, albeit on a different path?
- roodammy44, on 03/09/2009, -2/+15Messed up that a joke about how bad things were getting back then is even more relevent now.
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -4/+16I don't have to worry about crazed gunmen because I don't go outside.
- inactive, on 03/09/2009, -3/+15thanks for the insight
- TheTorontonian, on 03/09/2009, -0/+12You are an inconsiderate idiot. But alas, as they said earlier the internet is full of morons too. Oh, well.
Have fun with your quip. - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -0/+12Especially when it's undeserved.
- PizzaEagle, on 03/09/2009, -0/+11You cant instantrimshot yourself, its bad etiquette
- gcnaddict, on 03/09/2009, -4/+15Gun laws only prevent the law-abiding from getting a gun.
- Duggan360, on 03/09/2009, -10/+21That must of been an awkward honeymoon
- mrdanner, on 03/09/2009, -0/+11Talk about hatred and intolerance... claiming a man deserves a brutal death in front of friends and family just because he was a pastor.
I think YOU'RE the one who hates! - inactive, on 03/09/2009, -2/+12See, it's funny because you're using a tragedy to further your own political views.
- mcquitty, on 03/09/2009, -0/+10A tolerant man, aren't you?
