- mattsidesinger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17This is oddly ... normal. Where is the crazy Russia that I love?
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20In Soviet Russia people won't stop ***** overusing this ***** cliche. Go home.
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11More panorama's like this:
http://www.panoramas.dk
And possibly the coolest one ever, an aerial shot of Sydny:
http://www.panoramas.dk/fullscreen6/f52-sydney.html - Aeaus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10That's a very nice quality panorama, it would be nice to see a list of more from that site, but I can't read russian.
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm glad this made the front page, because you get a pretty good idea of how 10+ million people go about their daily lives.
- TastyBaconTreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Anyone have any idea how this is done or where I can learn more about the process?
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What's noteworthy about that? I'm sure that virtually every metropolitan in the world has factories like that. I live in NYC and we've got several in every borough.
- LesbianHam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There are a couple of shadows which have no person, lol.
Also, you can see the shadow of the camera on its tripod.
I love panoramas like these, they rock.
Why aren't there more of them? - SQFreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I believe it says "С новым годом" (S novym godom) which is literally "With the new year" but it really means "Happy New Year."
I recognize the location, but I can't quite place it. Looking it up I find that it's Поклонная Гора (Poklonnaya Gora), near Парк Победы (Park Pobedy / Victory Park). - vthh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Here is the link:
http://pano.1drey.com/all_moscow.html - jmreid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes, I can look up, down, left and right, just like in real life!
- umdigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Check out QuickTime VR. There are a few ways to do it. If your digital camera has a stitching program where you can make panoramas you can import that into quicktime. I made one once using that method and it was ok, but it had chuncks out of it where the photos didn't align. This one is done very well.
- BladeofKeyZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's like I'm really there!!!!
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I found another shot, directly behind that sign: http://pano.1drey.com/panos/moscow/streets/newyear02.html
- combustion8, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I'd rather see a panoramic shot of the mafia graveyards.
- combustion8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yeah its old
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://pano.1drey.com/all_moscow.html
has both russian/english
edit: vthh beat me to it. - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No, it's in the right direction. It says "Happy New Year"
- tugger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Quicktime VR is awesome and has been around for years.. Audi UK website used to use this for their car interiors..
The great thing is that it's a beautiful clear day and the cameraman has the perfect focus on everything.. You need a minimum of 24 photos for quicktime VR to work with, however I think this guy has used lots more than that.
The bit I like is looking straight down and trying to work where the cameramans feet were... It's like you're floating! - LonesomeFighter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what, the frozen river?
- signal15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>I'm glad this made the front page, because you get a pretty good idea of how 10+ million people go about their daily lives.
Sledding? - chembro84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Like free city-wide internet and one of the cleanest air-quality cities in the world? :)
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Where is "here"?
- 3leggedHorse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Global Warming from Russia with love. They wanna keep all the snow for them selves.
- eNthem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had the privilege to live in Moscow for 2 years and must say that it is one of the greatest cities in the world although it is very polluted...
- dickeytk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that place looks like oodles of fun!!!
- kwilliam71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These cubic panoramics are so hard to stitch right. I've made a few attempts with a 10mm, but it's pretty damn tough. Kudos to these folks that can do it so well.
- OrlyonokEaglet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like steam, it's more visible because of freezing temperatures. Those are probably heating/power plants.
- neave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More QTVRs: http://pano.1drey.com/qtvr_intro.html and some in Flash too: http://pano.1drey.com/flash_intro.html
- ultraelite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think that the 360 aside this is a really good photo. It manages to convey a lot of Russia, both literally and metaphorically. Elders looking down at the younger people on their way up as their on their way down. Everyone is frozen in time in the tundra the only movement is the kids hand inviting you to join him. But that's just my opinion and I'm on acid so it isn't very reliable.
- masgrada, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nuclear power plants in the distance? Sure looks like it.
- kwilliam71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These are called Cubic Panoramas. They are very difficult to do this good. It helps to have a good 10mm/180 degree fisheye lens on your camera.
- 3leggedHorse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is that writing behind upside down.
- tuxthepenguin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is that steam or pollution or what coming from those factories?
It stretches a long ways in the picture. - chembro84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wow anyone else notice the factories spewing crap into the air? I'm sure there are American cities like that too, but at least where I live it isn't like that (San Francisco)
- ph3rny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sounds like michigan or at least midwest u.s.
- KD5VMO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does any one know how I could set this to be the background on a Mac/PC/Linux. It would be cool if you could have multiple desktops that pan around when you switch desktops. Useless as it may be, it would be awesome to have. On Linux you could probably use Beryl (with some sort of conversion), or something similar, but Mac or windows, beats the hell out of me.
- cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't know about a "pretty good idea" what Russians do; more like "hey, look. Normal people."
- trovoltex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's from heating station, by the way, the pipes are huge :)
And if you see a long trail it's because of cold weather.
80% of pollution come from cars. - capitocapito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In Soviet Russia, this ***** cliche won't stop ***** overusing you.
- GodsHand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice!
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1signal15, browse the links posted above.
- TheSurfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For this kind of VR we use 3-4 shots with an 8mm fisheye or 6 around +1 zenith with a fullframe fisheye.
We can do very high resolution multirow panoramas with usually 30-40 images but that is not for action and news panoramas.
You can find a couple of interesting panos by Andrey at my News Pano page.
Just scroll down at the bottom.
http://www.panoramas.dk/newspanos/index.html - lazyeyesam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gotta love those clouds of pollution... pretty though.
- zakool21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing. Lots of those other ones are amazing too. It's not very common that you see full resolution panos like that. The detail is pretty good closer to the photog, but as the image goes off in the distance, it shows the limitations of the photog's camera.
- eNthem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You have other problems... ;)
- skeeve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://around.1drey.com/
look at the left bar for the various categories. there are english translations
make sure you scroll down for all of them as there are several panos for each - 3leggedHorse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Here is some proper pics of pollution.http://www.buncefield-oil-fire-hemel-hempstead.wingedfeet.co.uk/
