- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -3/+190Might be cheaper to slap on a dose of lard with a light sprinkling of baco-bits.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+191NEW: Fat! Comes with trace amounts of meat.
- starcrunchfx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+168so you cook it and then you have... nothing.
- mistermanoli, on 10/12/2007, -5/+106why would he even buy this.. u can see what the bacon looks like in the package..
- dairylee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+95Is it wrong to want a bacon sandwhich still?
- mortigon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+93"thats bacon?"

now i must wrap it around a stick of butter.
mmmmmmmmmmmm - chr1831, on 10/12/2007, -11/+94Kinda ruins everything, if i got that "bacon" (if you would call it that...) on my BLT i would call the health department because that just looks wrong....., I would not even feed that to my dog.
I would eat raw peanut butter for a week before eating one peace of that "bacon" - CaptainNoPants, on 10/12/2007, -5/+87*****, I don't think it's safe for anyone.

"pork fat RULES"
BAM! - EerFoolWVU, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61A friend of the family actually produces the bacon that goes to Kmart in VA and he has said that they literally send the most fatty bacon to them because they pay less, and to the little that gets sent elsewhere they charge more since its of a higher quality.
- mavsmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -17/+70Reminds me of my ex-girlfriends thighs...
- BostonLow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+54I'm gaining weight just looking at it.
- TheBarge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+51It looks like "Fat Back" repackaged and branded as "Bacon." That's awful looking.
- meshman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+49You get what you pay for.
- bossm4n, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45Buying K-Mart bacon is something like getting Mexican food in North Dakota. What do you expect?
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37Bacowned!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39This is dumb. The packaging is clear for a reason, obviously you wouldn't pick that package of bacon (er.. fat.)
- FeartheKnighted, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Dogs still won't know its not bacon...
- malaak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28from the cow?
- Thuktun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Every dog that's ever visited my house knew enough to leave their own fecal matter alone, but each thought the cat box was a buffet.
- Technopope, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30This story is lame.
Bacon, even bacon sold at K-Mart, comes in packages that allow you to see what you are purchasing. If in a box, like the article photo shows, a window usually shows the front, and a perforated flap in the back of the box allows you to see the other side. If you don't like what you see, choose another package, or simply don't buy it.
Only an idiot or a troll would purchase that bacon and then whine about it. - snotrokit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Does the idea of buying bacon from K-Mart sound bad to anyone but me?
- JustAZombie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Do you even bother reading the article, or do you just spray your troll piss everywhere, hoping you'll eventually hit something?
- mavsmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Why should they care? They eat their own ***** anyway...
- David513, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24At least get the facts right. If you follow it to the actual source pictures, you can clearly see that it is some off-brand called "Jamestown brand." It's NOT "K-mart brand" bacon.
http://thesiblog.blogspot.com/2006/12/best-bacon-ever.html
It was just a random package of bacon that K-mart sold, so what is the point of bringing the retailer into it? Nobody buys a package of bacon like that without knowing what he's buying. See the little window on the package? Whoever bought this purchased it just to take pictures of a product that clearly slipped through the cracks of some company's quality control people. No store in the world inspects every package that comes in. They merely put the stacks of merchandise onto the shelves (or into the coolers). I'm not a fan of K-mart, but it's stupid and absurd to pretend that K-mart is somehow responsible for this.
If someone truly had a concern about a bad package of bacon, all he had to do was point it out to a manager at the store. It would have been removed and charged back to the vendor. The ONLY purpose of buying it is to get "cool points" online by pretending that this is a real problem. With as many actual problems as we have in this country, it's absurd that a misleading story like this can make Digg's front page.
David - fatherspud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23If you were using it purely for rendering the fat for another recipe, it would be ok.
- mntbikeracer1, on 10/12/2007, -11/+31Most likely just mislabeled Fatback bacon don't know what the big deal is.
- Easty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Not as long as it has the pig's weight in HP sauce slathered on top of it.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I thought zero carbs meant healthy!
/sarcasm - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20I'm with you on that. Looks just like fatback to me. Although that cut is a bit weird, it's not like it's rare or anything. You can make a lot of good eats with fatback.

Love those damn bacon stories. - geekfrom99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15IT'S BACON!!!!!!
- jonfelder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13There's a link to the original blog in the consumerist article. It has pictures of both sides of the package, and a picture of the outer box. While it may be mislabeled, this is not some sort of conspiracy.
See for yourself:

I guess you have never eaten at a mexican food joint in the north then, but, theoreticaly your right. - Bowski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13That things is like 99% fat full. This will definitely help Americas fight on obesity.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Anyone find it funny that the package has a nice, healthy looking label that says "0g total carbs"?
- gameforge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Did anybody else notice that it says USE BY FEB 03 2007? Who knows what's happened to it since then.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"You obviously don't shop for bacon. Most packagers put the bacon in a cardboard type outer packaging with a tiny little window (sometimes no window) to actually see the bacon."
All the bacon i've ever bought has been in clear packaging. Further, even if the cardboard box had a "tiny window" you'd still be able to notice that it's pure fat. It's not hard. Always look at what you're buying, because quality control sucks. - thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10While K-Mart may not have the highest quality.... Something tells me this person went through every pack and found the absolute WORST one.
Besides... anyone who'd pay good money for bacon and NOT look at the pack first.... just ain't right. - TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I thought K-Mart went bankrupt and closed.
- Billiam627, on 10/12/2007, -18/+28Gross, that has to be NSFW.
- NoizyWun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11so wheres the umm u know..the meat part of the bacon
just wondering cuz i thought bacon had meat on it - Navicerts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Heh, thats pretty bad! I would like to see it pulled apart. I doubt it is the case here, given the brand name, but sometimes the way they are stacked makes them look like 95% meat or in this case 95% fat (thats why it looks like95% meat from the front usually!).
- darny, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13wow, i can't see anything other than an overexposed piece of pork. great job, porktographer.
- Rojahon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10What's really bad is when you think that $5 box of 30 microwavable burritos is a good idea.
It's not btw. - nathron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9bottled water?
- friend18, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11That is what you get when you treat your workers like *****. Screw Smithfield. They treat their workers bad and don't let their workers unionize. They also harm the environment. "In 1997, Smithfield was fined $12.6 million for violation of the federal Clean Water Act. The company also received criticism in 1999, when flooding caused by Hurricane Floyd washed 120,000,000 gallons of hog feces out of Smithfield's unprotected "lagoons" and into the rivers of North Carolina."
