- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -4/+334It'd be fun to like roll hot wheels cars down the them.
- airwalkery2k, on 10/10/2007, -1/+173That's why I carry a hot wheels car at all times. That and to highlight my maturity by making car noises with a visual aid.
- jklyon, on 10/10/2007, -5/+168I bet if someone did give information on it, some people would flip and call it blogspam and demand to be given a picture with no text.
:/ - lesty420, on 10/10/2007, -0/+112It's the best thing since sliced bread. It sort of looks like it too.
- DMCLP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+62Found some more info on them along with a couple more pics: http://www.iht.com/slideshows/2006/05/25/arts/web.0529dlede29.jpg.php?index=0
Few New Yorkers will be familiar with the TARDIS, the time traveling vehicle that whisks the time lord Doctor Who through the centuries to save civilization from evil aliens. Yet TARDIS is the inspiration for an extraordinary new building on Spring Street in SoHo. The inside of the new Thomas Heatherwick designed Longchamps store, Spring Street, New York. - Akaji, on 10/10/2007, -7/+54That's not very Escher-like...

- snowrider221, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26Could someone move this to the images sect.... oh, wait...
- CrimsonBlur, on 10/10/2007, -8/+31How about some info about the stairs? Who posts a picture like this with absolutely no details? Lame! Anyway, yes, the stairs are awesome.

- LanceWindu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Damn you holygram...I looked at the pic first and then came to make a comment about Hot Wheels. I bow down to you for beating me to the punch.
- carnag3aus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Only you can walk up and down these without breaking reality.

- zzz@tkz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Why are you asking me? Did you check your closet? Garage? Under your bed?
- bootle, on 10/10/2007, -6/+15How many times is this going to be on digg? Do we all have the collective attention span of gnats?
- BossKey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I think that lawsuit is gonna have to wait until they remove those, um, you know, safety railings there.
- zzz@tkz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10NO WAI
- Sparkster185, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I'd love to digg this "story" just to give your comment more exposure, but I just can't.
- krahzee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Cool Stairs, Wouldn't want them in my house though. I have enough trouble with the normal ones when I'm wasted.
- fussbucket, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Maybe the craziest looking, but not the craziest. At least they lead somewhere unlike the Winchester House. http://www.flickr.com/photos/samsim/40761142/
- t4k3n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Middle lane looks the fastest .. but i can't be certain with out more testing...
- wordsofwisedumb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It is in a purse/clothing store store in New York City called Longchamp. The treads of the stairs are made out of bent steel plates welded to flat steel plates that had been cut to make the verticals of the stairs. The whole project went waay over budget but was so cool that the owner decided to keep going. All of the handrails are slumped glass to keep with the flowing feel. Because the stairs are out of steel, they are actually very thin and you can walk under them without problems. The shelves on the second story of the store are also in the curved theme and peel out of the wall.
- sinembarg0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ah yes, but then the problem arises of which step to roll it down first: One with a big drop first and a small drop second, vice versa, or moderate both times?
- xero69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Just imagine trying to navigate those while drunk or tripping
- electrostat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I fail to see how they are so dangerous; looks quite safe indeed.
- mhuggins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4LOL, where did you think of that completely original joke? GENIUS!
- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Thats going to be the first comment I've ever dugg that just said "LOL".
- Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You've seen crazier?!
- clokwise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The designer is Thomas Heatherwick, a brilliant young British architect. That staircase is from the Longchamp store in NYC.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Heatherwick - thedragon4453, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Very cool. If only I had a skateboarding mouse, or perhaps a cupboard to make my nephew's tech deck dudes come to life...
- justok, on 10/10/2007, -0/+216, no 48 uh, you may have the attention span of a gnat, but I ....ooooo....look, a dog with a puffy tail!
- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Okay, fiat guy.
- b3owulf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Man I saw these in a magazine almost 2 years ago....
- PirateMLifnen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xyQBr7ugDA
- Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2A true geek would measure the height of each hill and calculate how high the first one must be in order to give the car enough momentum to make it over the second hill, then use that to determine which big-hill/small-hill combination would send the car into a nail-biting, will-it-make-it crawl to the peak of the second hill, only to just barely slide by the cries and whoops of envious onlookers and wet-in-the-pants ladies.
- Ibox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2is that the slinky world head quarters?
- themuffinman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2YA WAI
- harryrick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You would only use the phrase 'This is the best thing since bread' if something was truly awesome.
- Brows, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm surprised the title to this wasn't "HDR Photo of the most awesome stairs you will EVER see"
anyway cool stairs from what I can see in the 350 pixel photo........and I'm only digging this because it wasn't a link to flickr. - djpants428, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2as posted further down:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Heatherwick
designed these stairs. - djpants428, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Brilliant!
- enginbeering, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That third one's just a picture of some escalators...
First two were cool though. -
