- unusualbob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17If you ever wondered about police views on violations...
I got a ticket for my window tint which at the time i did not know was illegal as i had bought it used. The cop proceded to explain the ticket but conveniently decided not to tell me about the fact that if i got it removed i could avoid the fine & court fees. When i asked her about that she explained that if i got it removed before the court date and got it verified by the dmv office they would write it off. But still insisted that i could just pay the ticket and not change anything. Apparently they dont care if you fix it, they just want the money. - VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -7/+22Hehehaha...oh woooooooow...
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Because moylan, when you're being the typical crotch rocket douchebag, darting between cars on the highway, you WILL cause an accident.
- Endorean, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19This sign isn't fake.
It's an actual sign that was put up on a motorway in South Western Sydney, Australia called the M5, it's about 5-10kms before you slow from 110Kmh to 60Kmh. And that is actual graffiti that was plastered on it.
I've driven past that billboard a couple of times.
=) - socokoolaid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15In todays society of overpopulation, things are getting spread out. One spends a lot of time traveling. On the other hand, cars are getting safer and better handling. Roads are traffic devices getting created better and more thought out.
I think it's time to raise the speed limits. - sannm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9actually pre-WWII they were very high in many areas but were lowered to conserve gas during WWII, they were never raised back up again. Apparently in many parts of the country 80-85 on highways was common. I agree we need to raise them again, cars are much safer now and people routinely go that fast anyway.
- omarqaz7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I recently took a trip Australia and noticed that they had digital speed limit signs. When I asked a taxi driver about this, he told me that this was so that speed limits could be changed depending on things like lighting or bad weather. I think this is genius and can only wonder why we don't have such a system here in California.
- sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Except that when it's 4am, it's dark (in most parts of the world), which means that your visibility is greatly reduced, as opposed to Daytime. So, driving really fast at night, is not really a smart thing to do, jackass.

"the illegal or unauthorized defacing of a building, wall or other edifice or object by painting or otherwise marking it with words, pictures or symbols."
"words or phrases written on public sidewalks, on the walls of buildings, public restrooms etc. or the like."
"...any spontaneous or unauthorized writing or drawing on walls, vehicles, and other public places. It is typically obscene or political in character, but a great deal of humor and wisdom can also be found." - jd5alive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6speeding doesn't kill
Chuck Norris kills - insovietrussia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anomander is correct, this billboard is in South Australia. The officer is wearing a SAPOL uniform and the slogan on the sign was part of a South Australian speeding campaign for several years.
Also of note, this picture is fake. The sign was never vandalised, but rather a photo of the sign (sans graffiti) taken from a council website was photshopped repeatedly and posted on local Adelaide car enthusiast forums.
There is a variation of the sign here, the exact same photo but with a different message scrawled on it:
http://www.boreme.com/boreme/funny-2005/speeding-excuses-p1.php - gameforge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If, after comprehensive training and driver conditioning, you score very well on an exhaustive exam, THEN you should earn your license. Raise the bar for everyone. Then, strictly enforce laws regarding in-car distractions, observable/testable fatigue, seat belts, road rage, etc. and we can have things like the autobahn, cars that go 180mph, increased speed limits, and a lot less idiot drivers - and a lot less accidents (in the US anyway).
The number one priority as a licensed driver is the safety and well-being of every other driver on the road, because that's why you've earned the *privilege* to drive at all. It's your responsibility that you've agreed to keep in order to have a license. If you don't follow that priority, the rest of us don't want to let you drive.
People who think it's safe for THEM to excessively speed, cut people off, tailgate, run stop signs, etc. shouldn't be licensed (I have a funny feeling they're the ones who would be in favor of a class-based system allowing *them* to drive aggressively).
The rest of us could then drive a lot faster and get places a lot quicker, adjusting the laws, because we'd have a lot more confidence in everyone else, and ourselves, as we all had to pass a really hard exam that covered things like the social aspects of driving (how breaking the law, whatever it says, aggravates/distresses other people, compromise others' safety, and is indicative that you shouldn't actually be driving at all).
But we're not interested in that today; we're more interested in enabling *everyone* to drive. - rjam710, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"Wow, that is the longest series of dugg down comments I have ever seen"

"There should be some kind of test to see what level of driving you are capable of, and have a respective speed limit..and also take into account the type of vehicle."
Separate speed limits for each driver, depending on experience and vehicle? That has to be the most absurd thing I have ever heard in my life. Stupid, unmanageable and downright dangerous.
"I have been riding for 4 years now, i know what is safe and what isn't safe. i know cars don't see me when we are both going 50 in town. there's been many close calls in town. but only close calls with other vehicles. When there have been no vehicles around, i have never had any problems, -at all- ."
that statement leads me to believe you are actually NOT a good driver at all. You get many close calls when driving where there are other vehicles, do you? I don't, because I look out and show respect to other road users. I feel you are the kind of person who says 'I've never been in an accident in my life. Seen quite a few in the mirror, though'. - getliquified, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3lol nice
i just passed it around the office :p - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm with benitojuarez on this one. there is no way a working speed camera would fail to register someone going at 90mph. If he's never been caught, the chances are there were no working cameras on the road he was on. In the UK, they use a number of 'false' cameras, to save money.
However, the Top Gear episode he refers to DID manage to beat the camera, but they had to break 170mph. - malliemcg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2These along with the funny comments can be found along many Australian roads. Not the best one to date, but pretty funny none the less.
- insovietrussia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Also you're endangaring yourself, which the police have a duty to protect.
- addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2Yes, yes they are :)

- Fornbogi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What a stupid sign...
- AnotherThought, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the last time i heard 31 states raised their speed limits to at least 80 on the hwy, 29 of them saw decrease in fatality rate due to speeding
- Lennalf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I doubt the original image had any graffiti. IMO they all look 'shopped. Real graffiti wouldn't typically have that kind of even, well-contained spray distribution... especially when done in such an otherwise sloppy fashion.
- daveleeuk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2he didnt mean it in an artistic sense
- benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2*****, there was an episode of top gear where they took cars up to 200miles per hour to try and beat a speed camera. no dice.
- AnotherThought, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0headlights too bright, windows too dark, music too loud, car too fast, drivers too foreign... i just don't some of these...
- LemonDefragger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Right, lets solve hate with more hate. Genius!
- AnotherThought, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1so should it be reword to - in case you get caught, keep on going and do not stop to break?

i hope it's not for extra cushion ... sry digg me down plz Xp - ewc80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have only been pulled over a couple of times but in my experience the best excuse is no excuse. I got pulled over once for going through a light a bit too late. The officer asked me what my excuse was and I told her I really didn't have one, I should have stopped but made a bad judgment call. I told her I would be more careful from now on and apparently she liked my answer, as she just gave me a warning and let me go.
The other time I was pulled over was for doing 33 in a 20mph school zone. I was polite but got a $180 ticket. I spoke to the DA later to try to get the fine reduced. According to the DA the officer had written a note on his paperwork stating that I was "polite and courteous" I still had to pay the fine but the points were reduced at least. The DA stated that since it was a school zone the fine couldn't be changed.
Best advice I think is to drive safe but if you do screw up and do something dumb just owe up to it and don't get pissed at the cop. - daveleeuk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1My excuse is that when driving about 35-40mph you tend to concentrate alot more than when doddling at 30mph - therefore your safer when speeding (obviously joyriders and boy racer goons excluded). People going the limit or under are far more dangerous.
Great sign though LOL - cenithx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This sign WAS used in a photoshop competition though.. I think it was on BoostCruising or FastFours Forums or something.. I tried finding it but can't remember where I saw it. There was LOTS of VERY funny chops done to the sign.

Maybe the driver in front of you should be paying attention to all thats happening around him, before signaling and pulling out on the right -
