The submitter must be from Soviet Russia. - pmuaddib, on 10/12/2007, -1/+88Forget the roller coaster. As impressive as it is, I would rather see a picture of this guy the roller coaster fears, that has really got to be awesome.
- Lixie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+75I've ridden that. It's called Top Thrill Dragster. It's at Cedar Point. It's been there a while now. I rode it like 4 or 5 years ago.
To be honest. The 2-3 line wait wasn't worth eh 15 second ride. The whole ride is just that one hill. - brocklese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+61and only about an hour from my house.
I think the new one actually looks better, it is going to be longer than 5 seconds.
http://maverick.cedarpoint.com/ - skoda, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33Wow! Where is this beast? It doesn't even look like the human body could handle that kind of drop..
- brocklese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29the pictures do not give justice to how tall it actually is in person.
- picaman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Feh. Give me a wooden roller coaster any day. They all sound like they will fall down at any minute.
Now that's exciting. - KevlarRelic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24I love that the poster is so terrifying that even this roller coaster is afraid of him.
I wonder if he could give us other examples of scary looking things that fear him? That would be fascinating. - dannstockton, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24There is one just like it in NJ. It's called the Kingda Ka. I've been on it, and it's awesome. At 0-128 in 3.5 seconds, and 456 feet, it's the worlds tallest and fastest coaster.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19This is NOT a one-of-a-kind roller coaster. It's available in at least two parks that I know of.
The one pictured here is named "Top Thrill Dragster" in Cedar Point. Another one, which is actually taller and faster (and is, in fact, the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world) is named "Kingda-Ka", and you can find it at Six Flags Great Adventure, near New York City. It looks exactly the same, only it's slightly bigger and painted green.
The ride is scary, but it's very short, and the lines are VERRRRRY long all the time because it only takes up 1 car at a time. If you plan on riding this, you can pretty much forget every other coaster in the park, since the lines to this one will be a minimum of 3-4 hours. - eMximeR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18When I was there it was early in the season when the park just opened in 2006, probably around April, and the hydraulics that powered this bad boy were a little cold, so the train was being launched and making it just about to the top, and then coming back down the same way they got shot up. Talk about scary. I didn't want to wait hours in line to go on it, so I hit up the other awesome coasters at Cedar Point. Highly recommended park to visit.
- quandrum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+212 to 3 hours? When I was there (in August on a weeknight) the wait was 4.5 hours for this thing, and the next longest line was 30 minutes. Needless to say, we rode the other 15 roller coasters there and ignored this beast, no matter how fun it looked.
If you're going to Cedar Point to ride this thing, expect to ride only this thing. - TomP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I'd ***** myself
- rnwen2750, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21... I know no person that goes to NJ for vacation.
- n8dawg87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14The funniest thing is watching people get launched up the hill. They make the cars sit at the bottom for a while to build up anticipation in the riders and then suddenly VOOM! they get shot up and plastered to the back of their seat from the g-force.
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Why can't roller coasters just be more fun and less terrifying / dizzying / bone rattling. More airtime less disorientation!
- patman1929, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16This roller coaster is called Top Thrill Dragster and is at Cedar Point in Ohio and is no longer the tallest nor the fastest
- Paladin27, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13The pictures are of Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio built in 2003 (It's only 420 ft tall). But the Kingda Ka is in New Jersey and was built by the same company using similiar specifications in 2005, although it is taller at 456ft than this coaster.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Thrill_Dragster
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingda_Ka - twonuh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Dragster will always be better than kingda ka because Dragster has a single lap bar. KK has over the shoulder restraints that lock you in your seat, you get a lot more weightlessness feelings on dragster because of this.
But the best coaster at the park is Millennium Force by far. Not as tall or fast but is the longest steel coaster in America and still gives one hell of a ride. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18How can this be the "WORLD MOST EXCITING ROLLER COASTER" when there is one that is just like it, only BIGGER AND FASTER.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingda_Ka - ksuto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10dude, this is THE TOP THRILL DRAGSTER only about an hour from Cleveland! the park, Cedar Point, also has Millennium Force, which used to be the tallest roller coaster, but it still passes the Statue of Liberty in height!!
- dantidote, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10You ridden it? Its actually damn exciting. The sensation of the acceleration is just incredible, then a short pause at the top gives you an awesome view, then that huge freefall... I liked it.
- Salgat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I rode that no handed front row at night. Its pretty fun. Its really hard to keep your hands up though, and if your lucky sometimes it wont make it over the top and will fall back and you get to go again, a freebie hehe.
- Salgat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Um, all rollercoasters are thrill rides you idiot.
- Ricapar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9NJ only smells if you live in Newark or somewhere crappy up north.
The rest of NJ (central and southern) is mostly trees and farmland and residential areas. It doesn't smell bad at all. - julian02392, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8they have one at six flags: great adventure in new jersey. It is so scarry looking in person. Ive never been on and never will go on! at night there are 3 lights on it and it's practically invisible, you just see three lights floating in the air
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10KyotoWolf:
Hahahaha, are you joking!? Oblivion's drop is 180 feet (54.9 m). That's like a kiddie ride compared to this one, which is 418 feet (127.4 m) for Kingda Ka and 400 feet (121.9 m) for Top Thrill Dragster. - dagnabbit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Not having to go to New Jersey?
- tacojohn48, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Was the only brown stripe on your shirt?
- spiffyfitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Here I am on the Top Thrill Dragster in 2004. That's me in the brown striped shirt:
http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/5299/topthrilldragsterpy1.jpg
It's a killer ride. - jackmaht, on 10/12/2007, -0/+72003? Why would this just show up. It's a cool ride but why would it just now come up?
- hfswagon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7In my opinion, The Millennium Force is a much better coaster. It is a longer ride, almost as tall and just a lot more fun.
- theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Been there done that, its a thrill.. but way to short.
- fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Kingda Ka beats it by far. Its the same thing but higher and with better theming. What more could you ask?
- Kodiak41226, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I live about 45 minutes from there. If you plan on making the trip to Cedar Point, and your over 21, plan on staying an extra day and hit Put-in-bay on a Saturday. A couple years ago Playboy rated it one of the top 10 places in the world to get laid, and its like 10 minutes from Cedar Point. If the Top Thrill Dragster pointed the other direction you could see it from up there, PIB is a town on an island on Lake Erie.
- NintendoFan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Nice to see my favorite coaster popping up on Digg, down side is that the site doesn't really tell much about the ride and the stats that it DOES give are false. Also, Kingda Ka is NOT better whatsoever, I DESPISE Kingda Ka in comparison to Top Thrill Dragster, on Top Thrill Dragster, the launch is completely continuous, the 3 pulses of the hydraulic launch are timed perfectly allowing for no slow down in between pulses, whereas on Kingda Ka, which was fairly half assed just for a record, there is significant noticeable slowing down between each of the three pulses which distracts from the ride. Also, Top Thrill Dragster accelerates faster than Kingda Ka, even though Kingda Ka goes faster, and that acceleration difference is IMMENSE. Another problem is the over the shoulder restraints on Kingda Ka, which staple riders down into their seats and are very uncomfortable on the shoulders when getting launched from 0-128 and also hurt quite a lot if one bangs their head on them as they are basically just a few pieces of bent metal, about 2 inches thick, with about an inch of padding on top. Kingda Ka's wait is also around two to three times longer than Top Thrill Dragster's and due to Six Flags sucking at maintaining their rides and not hiring proper workers, Kingda Ka experiences quite a bit of downtime as Six Flags does not maintain Kingda Ka properly.
Most importantly to me though, are the experiences, for Kingda Ka, you get the honor of getting launched on a really fast tiger up a blue and green tower in the parking lot of an amusement park in the middle of the forest in New Jersey. How great. I never really understood the tiger theming... Anyway, the way the queue line is set up is also a disappointment, while waiting in line, you wait around lined up next to the launch track, a good 10-20 feet from the ride, making the trains look small and like they're moving incredibly slowly and that the ride isn't all that fast. Now, Top Thrill Dragster, you're on a peninsula, in the EXACT center of the park, with the vast expanse of water all around you. You're about to board a dragster car, the world's fastest at that, and climb the world's highest track. Pretty damn awesome choice of theming. The station and area are all decked out in racing theming with even a bleachers set up next to the launch track so that people can come in and join in on the experience. The queue is INFINITELY better, you enter the queue by going underneath the launch track and then the queue snakes around in the area between the launch track and the break run, which is amazing, as you're encircled by the ride, it's constantly there looming over you. Also, everyone gets into the experience by waiting to see if the ride's going to roll back or not and everyone gets pumped.
I guess that's enough of my rant, but I never understand why people say that Kingda Ka is better just because it's SLIGHTLY taller and SLIGHTLY faster, when the experience is completely inferior due to it being a quick copy job so that Six Flags could say that they had a few world records. Skip on Kingda Ka and go ride Top Thrill Dragster and have the time of your life while racing for the sky! - uncleFester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i LOVE pics of cedar point in the winter. the contrast of rides against the cold/snow is so cool.. so different than the in-season photos you always see. i haven't been there since moving away from OH.. but look forward to the next time i head home in late august, when all the kiddies have gone back to school.. :)
-r - fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I live in Jersey. Central is nothing like up near New York.
- ElusiveByte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That's one feary coaster!
- BigMrWiggly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5ilyag:
If the ride is operated correctly and efficiently then the lines aren't that long, but Six Flags can't operate anything right. Also the ride was made by Intamin and they always have reliability issues. In the summer you won't get to ride many rides anyway cause there's a ton of people at the park. When i go in October the lines are 30min long.
There are a bunch of similar rides. Hershey Park has Storm Runner which uses the same hydraulic launch system and a shorter top hat with more elements to it. There's also Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm which was the first one. There's a lot more overseas. Check http://www.rcdb.com/ir.htm?propulsion=86 for a full list - BigMrWiggly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5KyotoWolf:
That's a different type of ride made by a different company. Oblivion has a chain lift then holds you at the drop then lefts you go. TTD launches you up a hill. Oblivion isn't even that great. SheiKra (http://www.rcdb.com/id2662.htm) and Griffon (http://www.rcdb.com/id3631.htm) are taller and have a lot more to them. - Stegura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree, that coaster is sick, (I've ridden it about 20 times) but it's pretty... not new, nor digg worthy. Plus KingdaKa in Six Flags is actually a few feet taller, and a few MPH faster. Only ridden that one twice.
- linuxwarz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If anyone has been on Disney's Mission Space, this rides take off feels just like it.
- ckrimmel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12You are correct about the one in Great Adventure being taller.
btw - I love how everyone has no problem busting on New Jersey yet half the east coast comes here for vacation. - b.m.a.n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That makes me sick looking at it, crazy stuff.
- Orangutan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yea that thing is awesome. kingda ka is a bit faster and longer and in new jersey and green. this is top thrill dragster and kingda ka was a slightly improved version
- ConeyK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Coincidentally, It is also the most phallic roller coaster ever!
- UndeadOverlord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thats at Cedar point I've been there I've seen that thing from up close its insane!
- YumYumKittyLoaf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Top Thrill dragster ***** sucks... Woo... up then down. Yeah the speed is fun, but it's not as exciting as the raptor or Millienium force.
Also, you can use fast-pass to only wait an hour or so, and even then it's still not worth it.
One good thing is that sometimes it dosn't go fully over the hill, so it rides back down and they shoot it off again... a two-fer! - dagnabbit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4For those unfamiliar, they take one photo as you're shot out of the gate, then another (I think) as you finish the descent. What an awesome ride.
