- UGM2099, on 10/11/2007, -5/+93This is closer to the London tube map than the NYC subway map.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -14/+82Pointless.
- facebook, on 10/11/2007, -3/+51that nutjob from alaska will be happy to see this
- PRlME, on 10/11/2007, -2/+46Where the Fuq is MILF Hunter and Bang Bros!
They need to map the red Light District - anteyekon4myst, on 10/11/2007, -6/+41Waiting for comments from pissed off people who feel their internet affiliations are not represented.
- avalenci, on 10/11/2007, -1/+32Its Tokyo http://subway.umka.org/map-tokyo.html : The green thing in the middle is the imperial palace ... hehehe
- chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17That's not the real internets. Where's all the porn? there should be a stop every 1cm
- sherifftruman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12How come the lefty blogs are on the right and the righty blogs on the left??
- psygnisfive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Actually it looks more like the Tokyo subway system. Look at the "You" in the middle of this one, compared to the Imperial Palace in the middle of Tokyo:
http://www.tokyoessentials.com/images/tokyo-subway-map.jpg - eh270, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12yeah that looks nothing like the NYC subway map. has the author even been to new york?
- diabolicdiablo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11The internet is a a series of tubes.
/sacrasm - mr1337, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Since when is Facebook Web 2.5? Seriously, I didn't get the memo. Just because they have an API doesn't make it 2.5. It's still 2.0 to me.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9whats the big deal. u got time to post on digg, he/she has time to make that map
- cowboy_k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6You mean like this? http://www.informationarchitects.jp/slash/ia_trendmap_start.html
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Truly fascinating. Dugg for making me look at that map for 3 or 4 minutes.
- ToadLeg, on 10/11/2007, -8/+14I refuse to be located right next to Apple and FaceBook.
- psygnisfive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10Are you referring to your comment? Because you could just quietly bury as lame instead of coming in here to tell us you don't like it.
- jarrubes, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10buried because digg isnt the most massive and important
- mk2ja, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Yeah... you just missed it. Its there. I know you don't care, but its on the intersection of the light blue and black tracks, just below MSN.
- gropo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5My map of people who insist on categorizing websites according to this trendy "versioning" meme:
Longterm Relevance {-------} Them - maximusGeek, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9or the DC Metro ... just more complicated.
- Skunkhair, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4GAH! This sucks. Me and my friend have been working on a subway map just like this one using the London Underground (a far more superior system). I was inspired by a poster that did the same thing with musical artists using the Underground. They used influential artists that impacted music as transfer points. Was going to do the same thing with our Web map. The joke of it all was that the Underground is known as Tubes.
- fleischner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It's brave of you to prove you know Styx lyrics...
- Beelzebub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Look at the low right corner, it's called a legend, or a key, which ever you prefer.
- SilkSteel, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8People have waaay too much time.
- awoeonip, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4livejournal is mentioned twice, once on the social networks line, and once on the tools line.
didn't think that anyone would give two ***** about that site. - bluenullity, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I see no subculture sites.... I guess it is working as intended then
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -0/+4ummm myspace is on there........
- gropo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Correct. New York's subway map resembles male genitalia with numerous EKG cables attached.
- leoedin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5From the map, the original author was japanese, so it probably is.
However, the concept of that map stems from the London design - vinsanity023, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5This is actually a copy of the Tokyo Metro subway/railway map. Not NYC.
- tsteele93, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I disagree. First it is clever, and cleverness should generally be rewarded. Second, I found it interesting to see some sites I was not familiar with, and based on their "subway line" maybe I should check them out. Kudos to someone for doing something clever and entertaining and even - perhaps - useful for some folks.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Is 4chan on there?
- MrTea, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5No 4chan? Burried!
- b0wl0fud0n, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yes. I lived in tokyo for a year in 1999. The design in the photo is nearly an exact aesthetic match to the map I remember. Even in this new map, you can see Shijuku (MSN), Tokyo (Facebook), Shibuya (Youtube), Ikebukuro (MSN), Kita-Senju (Yahoo) as major stations. Here's a more official version of the map where you can see a stronger resemblance: http://people.reed.edu/~reyn/tokyo.subway.gif
- ScoobyG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Would be nicer with actual links.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3uh, hello.. 2 suns means site is going well. party cloudy means its changing.
- agarc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I don't see DoubleClick anywhere... Whether you like advertising or not, the Internet wouldn't be what it is today without DoubleClick.
- joshmcconaha, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4spam much? wish I could dig you down several times.
- kurtwinter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2But where's Tay Zonday?
- haleym, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Oh, ok... so you're saying take the green line to Wordpress, then transfer to the westbound grey line, get off at BoingBoing, and hop on the s/b black... and *that* should get me to the Pirate Bay?
Thanks for the directions, man - I'd be lost in these dang tubes all day without your help! - LxRogue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is actually pretty neat, how sites fall into multiple categories at the intersections. What's the name of the black line?
- jariyakariya, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Yeah, I might have dugg the story if it was accurately titled as Tokyo Subway Map of the Internet.
- cowboy_k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Source of the image (along with PDF download, clickable version, etc.) from Information Architects Japan:
http://www.informationarchitects.jp/ia-trendmap-2007v2
(is this comment abuse?) - leoedin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4The design for the London map was an original, and is considered a design icon by many...
The original map was drawn by Harry Beck in the thirties: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/beckmap1.jpg - tech42er, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Wow! Another cool map of the Internet! Just like Xkcd's map and the Periodic Table of the Internet.
- hetzjagd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3No Goatse.cx OR tub girl?!
- idonthack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22ch is kinda subculture.
- tsteele93, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah, it was small though. I hate myspace, but it is still innaccurate to make it small. It is a huge "subway station" on the internet.
- arbulus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3It's a series of tubes!
