- timusca, on 11/29/2007, -4/+67I can tell you when I made the decision to get my puppy spayed... when I woke up one morning to see period blood all over my damn living room.
- signal15, on 11/29/2007, -4/+54Umm, you apparently have no idea what they do when they fix your pet.
- signal15, on 11/29/2007, -3/+52Not only does it change their temperament, but it also prevents unwanted puppies that end up in bags on the side of the road or end up filling up pet shelters and being put to sleep.
- WNW3, on 11/29/2007, -2/+45Hmmm I constantly want to roam, feel incredibly stressed, aggressive and frustrated, and am at risk of various illnesses. Maybe I should get myself fixed.
- hobbers, on 11/29/2007, -1/+38I don't think you understand what timusca was saying.
- mal1964, on 11/29/2007, -4/+41My dog uses condoms.
- Punkazz189, on 11/29/2007, -9/+42The answer isn't to spay or neuter your pet.
If you don't want baby animals to be left for dead, you should be a responsible pet owner and teach your pet about a little thing called abstinence. - cawfee, on 11/29/2007, -1/+32Sure you got the right dog back? |D
- inactive, on 11/29/2007, -8/+36They don't make them go to sleep. They kill them.
- myllamaboots, on 11/29/2007, -3/+27Its good to see a pro-neutering article! I work at an animal shelter and we get a lot of abandoned pregnant dogs dropped off just because the owners didn't feel it was necessary to fix their dogs. We spay/neuter every animal that comes in because really, there are way too many animals and not enough homes/shelters.
- TheFiestyFaun, on 11/29/2007, -1/+25I don't know how to respond to that
- Pureeviljester, on 11/29/2007, -0/+24men can get neutered while keeping their penis...
- TheFiestyFaun, on 11/29/2007, -4/+27I have a question. Don't laugh...Is stupidity really bliss?
- inactive, on 11/29/2007, -25/+48Your title is nice. Your description is mostly (but not completely) *****. Cutting off an animal's balls does not make it any less/more happy or healthy. It does make it more docile, and yes, reproducing doesn't seem to have any affect on an animal's emotional state. I've cut the balls off hundreds of various animals, so I do have a teeny idea what the effects of castration are. Mostly it makes the animal more docile and keeps the meat tender.
Do you have plan to cut off your own balls for health reasons...or to make your meat tender?
...dugg. - timusca, on 11/29/2007, -3/+25The old Bob Barker treatment is always the best way to go.
- Surfrock66, on 11/29/2007, -0/+20I'm getting my dog neutered...but I'm hand-feeding him the most expensive steak I can buy the next night.
- ewsherm, on 11/29/2007, -2/+20"I've cut the balls off hundreds of various animals"
wtf? - MiDri, on 11/29/2007, -0/+18It's funny, because that would be just as effective as talking to teens about it!
- rancidgrl, on 11/29/2007, -0/+15Neutering a male dog will definitely decrease his chances of getting prostate cancer. Trust me (as a vet tech), you don't want to see an old unhappy dog with prostate cancer. It is very painful and the dog will have to be neutered anyway to stop the spread of cancer.
Spaying a female dog will decrese the chances of getting breast cancer. It's not so easy to remove cancerous mammary glands from a dog since they can have 8 or more that all could have cancer. - kamiller, on 11/29/2007, -1/+16I was on the fence until my vet said that if I had my dog spayed before her first period it would lower her chances of breast cancer by > 90%.
- BremenSaki, on 11/29/2007, -7/+22Contrary to any myths you may have heard, your growing teenager will most definitely not be happier left entire. He (or she) will constantly want to roam, feel incredibly stressed, aggressive and frustrated, and be at risk of various illnesses. Furthermore, your teen won’t be any happier if you allow him to breed once or her to have just one baby.
- jaythree9, on 11/29/2007, -0/+14that's because hair color is tied to hormones. it's why children's hair is usually much lighter, and then grows darker during and after puberty.
- dustysquareback, on 11/29/2007, -3/+16Wow. There are a lot of uneducated ignorant anti-spay/neuter idiots in here. Get a ***** clue people. Get it done early and there is no adverse effect to their temperament. Not doing it is contributing to an already enormous problem. It is for the pet's good.
- pintomp3, on 11/29/2007, -0/+13relax john bobbit, that's not how it's done.
- DiscoLando, on 11/29/2007, -0/+12Interesting, so you're saying a person HAS to have a higher than B.S. education in order to perform a castration on an animal? God forbid, how did anyone ever perform surgery on an animal before 'higher education' was around?
- jkavvy, on 11/29/2007, -1/+13"I've cut the balls off hundreds of various animals"
What's scary is that RedNeckerson isn't even a veterinarian. - xero69, on 11/29/2007, -2/+14Someone neutered the server

- Joomal, on 11/29/2007, -0/+10At $50 for the neutering operation, I know which meat you'll be hand feeding him the next night.
- TekTrixter, on 11/29/2007, -0/+9Explaining why you need a new dog: priceless
- Y0tsuya, on 11/29/2007, -1/+10I had 2 male bunnies in the house once. I had them both neutered because they'd turn gay and try to hump and golden shower one another in a game of oneupmanship. I got tired of cleaning bunny spooge and pee off them everyday.
- gamemaker, on 11/29/2007, -7/+15To all the asshats trying to make analogies like why don't we do this to people, or to teenagers ... animals are not people! I am a responsible pet owner - I love my dog, yes she's neutered, and happy and healthy - but I am not so stupid as to anthropomorphize an animal. It makes no ***** sense to try to put it in human terms. Dogs don't think like people. They don't intellectually know if they are missing something and then get sad about it like a human would. They have emotions but when you try to impart that they think and react the same way that humans do you are just being a complete fiucking idiot, and probably in many cases making bad decision thayt make your pets less happy or healthy.
- inactive, on 11/29/2007, -2/+10When my dog got neutered his coat changed from red to golden. The vet said that was normal.
- daliminator, on 11/29/2007, -0/+7greenlight2001...he was actually criticizing inertkinesis. You just ripped on an innocent victim who was actually sticking up for you lol.
Such hostility on Digg nowadays... - mywhitenoise, on 11/29/2007, -1/+8that horse was ***** nuts! Who wouldn't want a rainbow horse?

- cubeeggs, on 11/29/2007, -0/+7
Don’t worry, your young dog should not undergo a personality change as a result of neutering.
And then:
Generally speaking, behavior will improve as he (or she) will be much calmer, more reliable and less moody. In fact, your pet will be much happier altogether, but his (or her) normal personality will stil be very much in evidence.
Which is it? - Joomal, on 11/29/2007, -0/+6Watching your Boxer go into a frantic rage and bite his owner's own balls off.... priceless.
- greenlight2001, on 11/29/2007, -1/+7That's not so weird. I've done it countless times too. Lived on a farm. B.S. in animal science (pre-vet). Work at a vet hospital. Bulls, goats, sheep, dogs, cats and even a rat once.
- StarWarsFever, on 11/29/2007, -4/+10i think we should apply the same mantra to people as well.

- AriaStar, on 11/29/2007, -11/+16If every single dog were spayed or neutered, there's be no more dogs in 15 years. RESPONSIBLE breeding is the way to go.

- mywhitenoise, on 11/29/2007, -2/+6I don't know why she's being dugg down, she's 100% right.
If every women on earth were infertile, I think it'd be safe to say there'd be no more children in 15 years. - cubeeggs, on 11/29/2007, -1/+5Neutering actually increases the risk of prostate cancer four times. These facts aren't all true.
- DDoSAttack, on 11/29/2007, -0/+4That gets a thumbs up for integrating the golden shower phrase so seamlessly into your sentence.
