- joerod, on 06/05/2009, -3/+53in NYC you will get a ticket for everything.. why? not so much because your breaking the law, but because NYC has to raise money and this is an easy way to do it.
its a real shame such a great place has to have fines that are so severe and most times not fair. - inactive, on 06/05/2009, -4/+54I love how people are trying to be anti-cop because they didn't seach the car. But if they did search the car people would be talking about the 4th amendment,
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -4/+43Being dead is not a reason to park here sir...
- zip000, on 06/05/2009, -3/+35So what?
Do you really want the cops to start searching vehicles that are ticketed? I'm pretty sure that we don't. Once it became clear that something was up, they searched the van.
I don't get how the police did anything wrong here...and I, in general, hate cops. - JammoBlammo, on 06/05/2009, -3/+22It's not like they could smell it over the smell of the streets of the city ;)
- morningmatters, on 06/05/2009, -6/+24Meter maids are the worst..
- zelig, on 06/05/2009, -6/+242 words: New York.
- doc005, on 06/05/2009, -3/+19reminds me of that episode of Castle
- kinseyincanada, on 06/05/2009, -1/+14what the hell are they supposed to do? search the car? They see a car illegally parked guess what your going to get a ticket? It even said the windows were tinted and he was in the back seat.
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -1/+14This is an outrage! His van was parked illegally for weeks and they never had it towed!?
- mavranos, on 06/05/2009, -1/+13Happens everywhere. I live in a small town in NC. Years ago my car was stolen. Weeks later I was shopping for a new car when I got a call from my father in law. He'd found my car across town... loaded with tickets... partially blocking the drive of a POLICE DEPARTMENT BUILDING!!!!
- illspaz, on 06/05/2009, -3/+13it's not the fact they didn't search the car that's so bad - the windows were tinted, after all. it's the fact that they did nothing except the leave the car "covered in parking tickets" ... after two tickets, it's supposed to be reported to the NYPD to find out who's car it is, tow it, etc. but cops who are lazy don't want to, and ***** like this happens.
- Yazilliclick, on 06/05/2009, -0/+9How is this even news? Why do news agency always seem so determined to get the opinion of relatives who are obviously grieving and throwing around blame without in any way reporting common sense or reason in the story? I guess it just makes better news.
Having your vehicle searched isn't part of getting a parking ticket. If somebody had noticed a dead body there when doing so of course they would have called it in, but there was no reason to expect them to and they didn't. Of course the daughter is going to be upset people didn't but that doesn't mean it should have, she's upset and grieving the recent loss of her father. - tidu, on 06/05/2009, -1/+9Right, because the dead man is gonna pay up
- sockpuppets, on 06/05/2009, -0/+8Of corpse they do.
- Suzilla, on 06/05/2009, -1/+9Exactly so. Thanks for pointing that out.
- Mootabolife, on 06/05/2009, -1/+9I got a $110 parking ticket not because I was parked illegally.. but because the sign was missing. It made no sense to waste gas driving into the city, waiting 3hrs or more in court, and paying court fees to plead not guilty. So I just paid the ticket..
They could ticket almost any car for any reason and half the people would just pay it to not be inconvenienced and pay $30 less in the end. - schmons, on 06/05/2009, -0/+7too bad it said the windows were tinted
meter maids arent even real cops - T8erT0T, on 06/05/2009, -10/+17Because it's too hard to peer through a clear window and/or smell a rotting corpse?
- sexybobo, on 06/05/2009, -0/+7you have to remember that 99% of the people that talk to them are yelling at them kinda puts you on the defensive when ever any one talks to you.
- charlietuna, on 06/05/2009, -2/+8Too bad they didn't tow the car, then the Department of Finance (in charge of traffic summonses) would have to deal with the body. Bloodsuckers.
- Cyphase, on 06/05/2009, -0/+6I was just going to say.. someone's been watching Castle :).
- intekra, on 06/05/2009, -1/+7Nothx
- Psygnosis, on 06/05/2009, -5/+11Stay classy New York!
- sexybobo, on 06/05/2009, -0/+5There is a very good chance they did report it if you read the article it says there was no missing persons report on file.
The majority of cops i know when ever they are about to ticket some one the first thing they do is run the plates because it might not be there jurisdiction and if it isn't they don't have to spend half an hour doing paper work on it. - kinerry, on 06/05/2009, -2/+7using the words "not fair" never worked for you as a kid, so why are you still using it now?
- URnotheonly1, on 06/05/2009, -19/+24And the average American wants more government in their lives. Really?
- theOster, on 06/05/2009, -0/+5i was ticketed by NYPD for "occupying more than one seat" at 5:30am. there were 2 other people on the train. so i paid it because i broke a rule (not sure if its an actual law). then i got a call from NYPD saying i had to pay the ticket, so i called them up and said i had my bank statement that showed my check had been cashed. she said "oh thats the first ticket, you still have to pay the second ticket". so now i had to take time off work to go dispute a bogus ticket. it turns out that the second ticket was 10 serial numbers and 30 minutes after my initial ticket and was written up for "disobedience". the clerk dismissed it because it didnt clarify what was being disobeyed. my point is that quotas really hurt the citizen.
- jessemoya, on 06/05/2009, -1/+6I'll be genuinely surprised if I hear that they don't have to pay the tickets.
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+5So....you're suggesting that Parking Tickets be outsourced to a private company?
- vilago, on 06/05/2009, -0/+4i don't know why your getting dugg down...i wouldnt even be surprised
- JoeMerchant, on 06/05/2009, -0/+4Want to lay odds on whether the city attempts to claim on the estate?
- tolljumper, on 06/05/2009, -2/+6As a NYC resident I can tell you how ***** the parking scumbag patrol is- I guarantee the guys family will still have to pay the tickets. When there was the blackout these dirt bags were still handing out tickets while residents directed traffic. They are worse then the cockaroaches.
- charlietuna, on 06/05/2009, -0/+4 I'm not as pissed about the city doing it's part, it's the mindless faceless bureaucracy that infuriates.
- weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -0/+4NYC has an unadvertised automatic settling program for when you plead not guilty for parking tickets. Even if you want to just pay a ticket, ALWAYS plead not guilty. They'll mail you a ticket for a reduced fine before any court hearings are scheduled.
- cal0140, on 06/05/2009, -0/+4Is there a drug test?
- ZeeZee2k, on 06/05/2009, -3/+7I'm sorry for your father's death.....but you're still going to have to pay those tickets.
- Maxwell1234, on 06/05/2009, -0/+4The father of the van...? Was the van a minor?
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+4The biggest question is how did that women not notice that her father had mysteriously disappeared? She's just as at fault as the cops.
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+4In order to get respect from the public, you can't talk too much. The average citizen is an idiot and won't listen to your message unless it fits into a 10 second news clip. Many third party candidates either refuse to dumb down their message or sound ***** insane when their message IS heard. While having principles is nice, it won't get you elected.
- jessemoya, on 06/05/2009, -2/+6I used to think they got a bad rap because of their job, and I feel for people in a position where others are rude to them when they're just doing their job.
But God in Heaven are they the most loathsome people to try and talk to. Every single time I've tried to just be friendly or polite to them I've regretted it. - inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+4""once it became clear that something was up," legally, should be after TWO tickets."
Legally? Should? - jetsfandb, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3It doesn't matter if he pays up. Its just that much easier for the officer(s) to meet their quota with.
- kinerry, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3being dead is usually a good way to get out of paying a ticket
- vilago, on 06/05/2009, -1/+4c'mon! you know it doesnt matter what it is-ANY excuse to bash the law
- chriswastaken, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3sexybobo has given me an idea.
- Suzilla, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3NYC is pretty good about removing abandoned vehicles, and it can still take weeks before they'll tow it. Part of this is procedure, and part of it is that there is only so much room in the pounds where they're stored. If the car wasn't blocking traffic or otherwise creating a nuisance or danger to the public, they'd more likely opt to let it stay "stored" there and continue ticketing it. The cost to the owner would probably be just as much if it were impounded anyway.
As for NYPD being "lazy" ... don't mistake laid-back, slow to get all worked up over trivialities as "lazy". There will always be the rare "bad apple", but NYPD is a stand-up group of men and women. Period. - canada42, on 06/05/2009, -1/+4There's quite a difference between searching the car and at least casually looking in the window of the car you're writing a ticket for. There is no degree of tinting that's legal where you can't at least see in the window if you're standing next to the car. Even if the windows were tinted I'm pretty sure windshields cannot be, and I find it very hard to believe you can't see the dead body of a full grown man in the back seat through the windshield.
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3Lo and behold the laziest person on the internet, who is too lazy to Google "Ascii facepalm"
- inactive, on 06/05/2009, -0/+3did babby died?
