- murty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+50I dunno about anyone else, but i enjoy these kinds of stories.
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -4/+42The money is buried under a silo at the Double K ranch, rumor has it.
- aoneal417, on 10/11/2007, -2/+40Ocean's 14 definitely needs to be about that bull semen heist.
- 7levels, on 10/11/2007, -1/+36Am I the only one who didn't know about the one in Iraq?
- hydratedsquash, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31Awesome, definitely read the wikipedia article on D.B. Cooper.
- rwinograd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24Man.. some of those people must have had balls the size of bowling balls to pull of some of those thefts.
- reddevil3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25I loved the part where he ordered 4 parachutes...now that's clever thinking.
- BESTenemy, on 10/11/2007, -8/+29I call BS. Dick Cheney's not in the list!
- Al3x, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13That and the article linked to about Heather Tallchief...it's a really sad story actually:
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2006/Mar-31-Fri-2006/news/6638599.html
Basically, she was 21 and in love with a 48 year old guy. He masterminded a plan to steal 2.9 mil. He impregnated her, and left her with only $1000 and a kid. She worked as a prostitute, nanny, etc. to support herself and her son. She turned herself in because her son had no legal identity and she wanted to fix that. So sad. - casualgod, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9$75,000 worth of bull semen... wow...
- Ishywoo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9+10 diggs for the dude that asked for 4 parachutes.
- PeteyEks, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Knocked Up was a hilarious movie. It has a believable and realistic storyline with characters that are not too far off from your own friends. They made a play on a common situation in America and they struck gold.
Oh, and Paul Rudd is awesome. - unknownpoltroon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5How many of them are never seen again because they are quietly hunted down by private parties hired by the victims?
- tomisina, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7my dad knew DB Cooper... they served in Vietnam together. He said he was a really homely guy. They were both airborn rangers.
- mizraabianz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4man I am amazed by DB Cooper story.. thats some genius *****. Getting 4 Parachutes = Priceless!
by the way, I love these sorta articles as well, Digg more of this! - Attrition, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4When I start reading these I can't help but hear the guy from America's Most Wanted narrating...
- swavalier711, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5These are incredible heists. Is it wrong that I am laughing at most of these?
- coloneltcb, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Everyone knows that the real DB Cooper is Jimmy James of Jimmy James Incorporated...
- tiberone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Well the overall plot of 12 was definitely lacking compared to 11, at the very least in terms of action.
But 12 was just a hilarious movie because of the great chemistry. 12 definitely got better and better as it went, and the climax of the film is just comedy gold. i strongly recommend you go back and finish it, just take it more lightly than 11 and have fun. :) - urbannomad23, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4D.B. Cooper. FTW!
can't wait for ocean's 13 btw. never saw 12, i knew it sucked...but 13 seems true to the story. should be good! - xile, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4US media doesn't like to report on the positive activities of coalition troops. Granted, single operations like this don't have much weight when compared to the gross mismanagement of the war overall.
- stupidStan, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5political (non) humor FTL
- orientis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Yeah because the first thing I thought when considering the ingenious planning and forethought that went into some of these heists was "Man, any idiot could do that!"
- spectre3353, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Great article
- dashham98, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1 I can't document this in any way but this is also true story and it is my favorite crime. A Brinks truck pulls into this alley and there is a truck sitting there with a cloth covering the back part of the truck. Someone comes out, pulls off the cloth, and there is somebody sitting behind an antiaircraft gun pointed right at the Brinks truck,
So the guys say, let us in the truck or we kill both of you, including the guy inside the truck. So they let them in, they put some money into a car and drive away. Then people go over to the "antiaircraft gun." It is a perfect wooden mock up! - cactus476, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If you can't complete the job, your efforts are worthless.
- brufleth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1**could be a spoiler for 12 here**
What was a little disappointing about 12 was that in the end the heist wasn't as masterful as what was done in 11. It was more like the writers didn't want to come up with a clever solution for the theft so instead they just wrote around that whole issue. - Silencer7, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I was showing students here in Japan pictures of that Fishing hall of fame just an hour ago.
In that same bar, there's also a 105-pound muskie, but they don't make too big a deal out of it because they found it washed up dead on the shore, killed by some outboard motor.
Anyway, I really didn't think the north woods was full of that kind of crazy drama, but if the 4-story fish didn't tip me off, I guess nothing would. - ch33sehead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I love the part where it says "Over half of that billion was later found ... yet the rest still remains unaccounted for"
- ClassicResort, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yeah. i call bullsh-- err... bullsemen on that.
- Shuk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Not to mention the "straws" found.
- rrasco, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I saw a documentary on a Loomis Fargo heist back in October of 1997, it was 17 million dollars. there were like 4 people involved, but the guy who stole the truck was it's driver, he just never showed back up at the end of his shift, they bought a huge home in some rich neighborhood, then got busted!
as for db cooper, didn't a kid and his grandfather find some of the money on a shore? they wrote down as many serial numbers from the bills as they could prior to the exchange with db which is how they say it was confirmed. - yohnstoppable, on 10/11/2007, -1/+112 wasn't TERRIBLE, but it just wasn't nearly as good as 11, which was a great movie. The only thing that really annoyed the crap out of me about 12, was the stupidity of making Julia Robert's character pretend she was...Julia Roberts, because they looked alike. That was incredibly lame
EDIT: Knocked up was an amazing movie. One of the best comedies I've seen in a long time - rschluss, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1By "heist" do you mean the current administration stealing civil liberties from millions of American citizens?
- chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2yes but who let the moose loose?
- ahull, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1FTA: "this time taking Las Vegas by storm once again"
Man that sounds bad - newyawker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Oceans 11 was great, Oceans 12 was god awful. GOD AWFUL.
- rschluss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0For anybody in the Boston area, I highly recommend visiting the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Mrs. Gardner was no stranger to scandal, and so it is only fitting that her legacy be subject to it as well. The museum is stunning, and despite the thefts, still has some incredible artwork on display in a spectacularly unique setting.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabella_Stewart_Gardner - waluum, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1This article has it wrong, the biggest known heist in history was the 2003 theft of $4 billion ($9 billion by some estimates) in cash that was given to the Iraqi government to kick-start their economy. Turns out the 363 tons of cash was flown over to Iraq aboard military cargo planes and mysteriously went missing...
So, Mr Bremer, where did all the money go?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1522983,00.html - drgkstep, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1what about 9/11 that was quite a heist.
- ernasty10050, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0This is awesome. I often wonder if it would be worth it to attempt to pull some huge heist off. If I ever come up with a decent idea, I'll definitely go through with it. I love these stories. I don't even care if I fail horribly.
- goodoldharris, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Was the second half of 12 good? Because I thought it was so bad that I turned off the DVD player about 40 minutes in.
- nicepants, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2....and who let the dogs out?
- oriondarkwood, on 10/11/2007, -8/+6They forgot one, Bush stealing the election in 2000..
- crackiesqueak, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0Wow I go to school in Santa Clara and never heard about the microchips heist.
- kindrobot, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1...oops
- ninja458, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2am i the only one who read "backwoods bull semen theft" in the description and imagined a guy sneaking into a barn at night and giving some bull a hand job! maybe i just need to clean out my mind.....
- neutralmind, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
- cactus476, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Or just be really really stupid.
- kindrobot, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2Yeah, Danny Ocean.
Words of pure wisdom and a true heart.
