WTF. for locking 3 children in rooms for 7 years and ruining them mentally she can at max only get 2 years less than the hell she gave them. She should get much more. - towca, on 10/12/2007, -12/+138"I know what i do to chicks i wouldnt want anyone to do those things to my children"
You're a ***** up retard and I hope you get kicked in the balls so hard that you can never have kids. - gmark13, on 10/12/2007, -4/+114I vote for life without parole!!
- Lixie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+102She'll probably try for an insanity plea.
- rksprst, on 10/12/2007, -13/+111wow, that's horrible! i hope the kids somehow recover and live a normal life
- DJMD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+97Her may be sentenced for somewhere between 5 months and 5 years?
I say lock her up for 21 years or more, at least as much time as she took from them! - Alfdog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+89When she got custody of them they were aged 7, 11 and 13. Now they are adults that are mentally scared, possibly forever. This is utterly sickening.
- rudy23, on 10/12/2007, -5/+90some kids shouldn't have parents.
- Aliasing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+86Dad, I told you to stop messing around with the AOL.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+85And this is where the justice system fails.
They should have searched the house after the first or second complaint...
but after 7 is sickening...
I hope they recover fully and live good lives... - RG13, on 10/12/2007, -5/+76The 3 girls were all severly traumatized.
One will never recover.
I say she should get at least 1 charge of murder.
Seriously. She destroyed one of her children's lives. I think that qualifies as murder. - ranumm, on 10/12/2007, -7/+63wow you really are a sick *****!
- dirtt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+59Yeah, thats what really caught my eye in the story. I mean, 5 years... thats nothing for what she had done to them. I'm more in favor of an eye for an eye type of treatment, 21 years of the exact same conditions...
- RG13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51Plz dont feed the trolls
Se puso por favor comida los gnomos
S'il vous plaît mis nourrir les trolls
Bitte dont zuführen die Troll - DorkmasterFlek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46As atrocious as her actions were, cases like this provide extremely interesting and valuable insight into human psychology. Apparently the girls created their own language to communicate verbally. That alone raises some interesting questions, such as how similar is it to broader human languages? I fully agree that the mother should be tried and sentenced for her crime, and I feel terrible for those girls, but if we can learn something from them then at least some good can come from their ordeal.
- onionizer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46some people shouldn't have kids at all.
- ray901, on 10/12/2007, -8/+52You didn't read the article did you?
- Dunadan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43Umm maybe you can't read, but this took place in Austria, not the USA. This having nothing to do with "teh authorities" you speak of.
- ClayDragon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43I am from Austria where this happened, I find this terrible. It just makes me wonder what we have a "Jugendamt" (youth welfare office) for. There's a discussion on Austrian television right now, cool to find this pop up on digg this minute.
- YeahOK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42"Teh authorities were too busy searching for Evil People who were plotting Terrorist Attacks Against Boston"
In what part of the U.S. would I find Austria? Or is there an authorities exchange program I'm not aware of? - Signalis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38your spanish line says:
"Please, food was put for the gnomes"
Correct spanish:
Por favor, no alimente a los trasgos. - S1L3NTC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40Boston is in Massachusetts.
Poestlingberg is in Vienna.
Please quit proving all the stereotypes about Americans sucking in geography are factual. - catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36"The girls’ ordeal was apparently sparked by their parents’ divorce, after which their mother, a 53-year-old lawyer, suffered a breakdown. But she won custody of the girls"
One-sided divorce law FTL. - TwilightKing, on 10/12/2007, -7/+41I hope you get locked in a dark room for seven years sometime. *****.
- rudy23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32"Even after a year of therapy the oldest daughter, Elisabeth, now 21, is said to be so disturbed that she stands only on one foot for long periods staring at the floor. She often bursts into tears."
Thats so farked up. - mattcoady, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25@ cwalk
Because Virgin Suicide is far from this. The girls in that movie had over protective parents, but they weren't crawling around in their own *****. I think Mockingbird Don't Sing would be a better reference. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22IMHO she should be locked up until all of the children fully recover from what she's done to them plus seven years. That would seem fair to me.
- openyoureyes17, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21@cwalk..uhhh i wouldn't compare this to the virgin suicides. in the movie the parents were trying to shield their daughters from the crazy world, and it wasn't like they were starved and forced to use the bathroom on the floor. they had their records taken away and couldn't go to school. boo hoo.
this article is about a women who lost touch with reality. something switched off in her brain when she got divorced.
there is a big difference between taking a child's records away and making them live in a meter of ***** for 7 years. - Reizors, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Anyone would think you've been locked away from society, that joke is old.
Oh and you failed to produce it correctly; "I'm in yur noun, verb'ing yur noun." - wicketr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Personally, I'm not as mad at the mother as I am the legal system and the authorities! This woman was obviously mentally disturbed. It's not like she's just a stupid mom. She did this for a reason whatever it may be, but the SANE people in charge should have done something and intervened. The legal system and the authorities were not mentally handicapped or disturbed. This "case" should have been discovered long long ago when these kids were still kids!
I wish she'd burn in hell and for EVERYONE that had the authority around them to have the weight of what happened fully on their shoulders as well. They are just as much to blame as this psycho for screwing up their ENTIRE childhood as opposed to what should have been at max only a couple months of pain! - typo180, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Her kids got 7 years for no reason - and in horrid conditions. She'll be treated like a queen comparatively. I think anything less than 7 years would be criminal. And only 7 is still not enough.

Obviously I am being dugg down because people have not seen the movie, and therefore do not understand my comment. For those that haven't seen the movie, a similar situation to the submitted story occurs. - skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I hope the mother gets life in a dark cell with no toilet so she knows what the children went through. >:(
- rikrak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Please, food was put for the gnomes
- ovni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Perhaps the scariest part of these stories is the realization that there are many similar cases that have yet to be discovered. Right now, somewhere in the world, there are still children locked away like this. I hope we can somehow devise a better way of identifying these situations.
- openyoureyes17, on 10/12/2007, -2/+171. the girls were 13, 11, and 7 when they were locked up. whats with the made up language? id understand if they were younger...but 13, 11, and 7?
2. i like how the girls were imprisioned for 7 years but the mother may not even get 5. what the ***** is THAT? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+24Why not just kill the old woman? What use is she to us on earth... Damn
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16 I feel for these young girls. I hope they can have some form of stable recovery.
- rsampaio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Its mankind at its prime people...
- reevolutn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17ah thats so sad. would be a very interesting case study though to see peoples coping mechanisms in situations like that
- typo180, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12It was still German, but a heavily modified German. Everyone modifies their language as they grow up, but you and two others are the only source and audience, then you've got nothing to keep you tied to what's normally understood. Plus I'm sure there are lots of other factors that come into play when you're in those conditions for 7 years.
This is just disgusting. We've been human for a really long time, we should have figured out how to stop this kind of thing by now. We need to quit ***** around and make things better. (easier said than done, I know) - Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Well, apparently, people will talk if there are people to talk to; these kids ended up coming up with their own language. The article seems to suggest that it is pretty far removed from German, though they did speak German at one point. I'm certain psychologists, and perhaps the therapy professionals, will attempt to look into this as their way of coping.
The oldest was 13; I'd think that her language would have been solidified enough by that point, but who knows what 7 years in that kind of hell house will do to a person's mind. How would they get the children to testify in court? - OnAnyMouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Quit verbing my nouns!
- peevegrider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12How is it that this lady's max sentance is 2yrs less than how long she kept those girls locked up????
- estatica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I understand what you say, but the fact is, the scientific community already studied hundred of cases involving children that were, by some reason, deprived of human contact. And let me tell you, most of these children died very young and, as interesting as they may seem from a sociological perspective, I don't think that what we learned from them will ever compensate their lives.
On another note, it puzzles me how every authority around them failed and did not suspect what was happening for so long. And they didn't even convict the mother the way she deserved... - Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Yeah, let's hope that pictures of a house with METER HIGH human excrement start floating around the 'net. I'm sure that'll make even one person happy.
- steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Go away, nobody likes PETA.
- Thelak, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14I don't understand what's wrong with Xarou's comment. It looks like he was just saying that this woman is going to be giving a sentence far under what she deserves. But anyway, this crime is disgusting. That's what it is, a crime.
- openyoureyes17, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12if i could digg you down more, i would
