- Platysquirrel, on 10/10/2007, -13/+82So the title says moments before impact. Last I check the plane was already burying it's nose.
- mlostracco, on 10/10/2007, -1/+62They never left the ground. It flipped forward when the nosegear broke or was accidentally retracted while taxiing.
- irkenzim, on 10/10/2007, -6/+59Cool picture, I hope they lived!
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -1/+41I suspect they landed and then nosed over. Maybe were too high off the ground when stalling it. The broken prop is a bit away from the plane so a few microseconds is probably too small of a time. The flaps being all the way down indicates they were landing.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfaCGc16jQ0 - listen for the sounds of the tail and canopy hitting.

This isn't an "impact" of a plane "diving into the ground." As noted above, the plane just flipped over while it was already on the ground. Everyone walked away. The plane's totaled, but thankfully only minor injuries.

They did... :) - jodofashodo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20Then you should feel fine because the article, the thing you were supposed to read before commenting, told you that they were fine.
- richmomz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21More info and pictures here: http://www.eezicam.co.uk/introvans.htm
Both people in the picture survived with minor injuries.
After looking at the pictures from the link above it looks like the plane flipped after landing; this was NOT a high speed nosedive straight into the ground. - CDoug03, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Last time I checked, using a plane's propellor to digg your way to the center of the earth doesn't work.
- blorc, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21Wow, not only an incredibly perfect picture, but harrowing at that. I hope they're OK, but I think I have to echo the almighty 8-Ball and say, "Outlook not so good."
- ochants76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16it just flipped over... it was never in the air
- borninda818, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Moments before the impact reached the people on board.
- Jesse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Maybe you should start reading more books yourself.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15According to DeskFlyer's link below, there was no major injury involved. Scary ***** though - you'd never get me in anything smaller than a 737!
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Yes, if only his camera shot a tractor beam and he was able to levitate the plane back to safety. What a decent 'human being' he would be then.
- Phyltre, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Check the comments currently on the link, a video is provided. They never really left the ground, the plane just flipped and dug into the dirt nosefirst. So no serious injuries--a few bruises, probably, but no worse than a fender-bender.
- KCDale99, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9"G-CDRM (cn PFA 323-14203) Nose gear failure on landing resulted in a fairly dramatic flip! Fortunately there was no loss of life involved."
At least they lived! - rft3rd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8buried for inaccurate heading copied from garbage website with 100% made up captions. Thanks go to the posters who did the research for the real story behind the hype. At least they got the color of the plane right!
- Cerpin_Taxt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8The still photo looked a lot more serious than a braking flip (as it is in the video). Glad to know they were ok.
- fordistumley, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Why?
- bdhughes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7it just goes to show you how a picture (or whatever) out of context can give you a lot to talk about or to consider, but when you get the full story, (thanks you tube subby) u r like, oh, that's it?
nonetheless, excellent photo in the milliseconds it took to go from taxiing, to nose dive w/o leaving the ground. - DeskFlyer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Original source: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1225773/M/
- BooostedAWD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6looks like he's wearing a map-hat. Trendy.
- ElGanyan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Buried for the needless sensationalism and misrepresentation of the photo, though it is a cool shot anyway. Few microseconds my ass.
- mrgreenjeans, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I agree. It looks like it has a tail-dragger type landing gear and is landing on a grass field. I think they bounced the tail and nosed over.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I've been training for my pilot's license on a Piper Warrior II which is asmall plane just like this. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't the most amazing experience ever.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The plane is an RV-7A: http://vansaircraft.com/public/rv-7int.htm
Can anyone make out the callsign? - tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5The thing about small planes is their recoverability. My first flight lesson, the instructor was like, "So, how about I stall the plane?" And I reluctantly said, "Ok..." So he did. It's not even a big deal. Those things can glide for a long ways because their stall speed is so low. If you have a competent pilot and your plane is well-maintained, you shouldn't end up going straight down like those guys (EDIT: Okay, they hadn't been flying, so that last statement isn't valid). Many problems arise from pilots taking on too much, or stuff they aren't rated for.
- slipkn0tz23, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4He took the picture (very shortly) before they were even harmed. How do you know he wasn't the first one to help them after it actually crashed? You don't honestly think he would've ran over closer to the plane while it was flying straight towards the ground, do you?
- ElGanyan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4You're kidding right? What exactly do you expect the guy to do in that moment? Better yet, what COULD he do?
Besides if you see the full set of photos you'll notice he was already photographing the plane as it was landing and it happened to nose over, so like anyone in his position he kept grabbing the shots. This wasn't a high speed crash straight into the ground and he wasn't in any position to keep what happened from happening. - Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, inaccurate!!! click click click... Bury this bastard! :-p
sigh - Epik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2lol inaccurate, watch the video clip.
- ripple123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well that just changes everything. You should ask for your money back...
- dewyjuhl, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4They weren't doing a nose dive into the ground they just flipped while landing. They both lived
- Pilot85, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You gotta watch those soft field landings, they can really bite you in the ass if you aren't paying attention... and sometimes even if you are. :/
- CIAVT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hey, in the original posters defense.... When he listed it all the "Updates" weren't on there, just a photo of a plane looking like it was about to crash. After it was posted to Digg the site updated with the news showing it wasn't a nosedive, just a landing accident.
Cool photo, and be happy everyone is ok. - rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It was on the ground when it flipped. Try watching the video.
- davids1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Buried as inaccurate. Aircraft crashes leave no signs of the aircraft.
- XBunnyRacer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2.
- Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2'logic forgot to read the article
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Whatever liberals are running that blog shows their abundant knowledge of planes. I love how they mention the landing gear was down. Funny. Could it ever be up on that plane. Don't you love liberals in media training?
- TargetDog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Woo, it flipped over at 10-15MPH, how dangerous.
- bj00rn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1MISLEADING!!!
- sintaxi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wow. this proves not many people read anything on this site.
- gordonj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1DRM is written on the side of the crashing plane. Do I need to explain the metaphor further?
- Ladon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wow, that's exactly what you DON'T do when you're in a crashing plane. The more tense you are the more potential there is for damage. You're supposed to do the exact opposite and chill the hell out, or you'll snap something. However, if the plane is TUMBLING ALONG THE GROUND as it CLEARLY IS, then propping yourself off of the ceiling is completely acceptable and suggested to avoid head injury.
- AJayD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They should have seen this coming, seriously who tries to take off on grass?
- chaos7, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2MISLEADING.....LAME......
- TRGX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2"This is a shot of a yellow plane nose diving into the ground, it was snapped a few microseconds before the impact."
NOPE.
